  1. What freedoms are we missing? Over the entire course of my life I have never noticed any varying freedoms or felt less than 100% free.
  2. Maybe there should be an easier process for supplements that make no guarantees that they do anything useful, but the FDA has examined them to make sure that they are not harmful when used as directed. The supplement industry is HUGE, but I think most of it just preys on gullible consumers who get a mild placebo effect while they throw their money down the toilet. I don't necessarily have a problem with that (business is all about separating gullible people from their money), but I also have a hard time feeling sorry for most supplement suppliers when they get called out for being dangerous and/or making fraudulent claims.
  3. So I take it you don't eat shellfish either? Leviticus 11:9-12 9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: 11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. 12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you. I seriously doubt that many Christians strictly follow all the laws laid out in Leviticus.
  4. Last time I bought a car, I think they would have tackled me if I tried to leave.
  5. I would only get one if inside the chamber there was a tiny water boarding station. I want bugs to suffer for entering my house and then go back and tell their friends.
  6. If they have legit therapeutic effects, why not go through the same system that drugs go through to ensure the claim is legit and that the product is not harmful?
  7. So all the decoration on the outside of the SL temple is simply graffiti? I wonder why it is that so many people seem to assume that any decoration on your body is no more than "graffiti" no matter how much meaning it has to the person.
  8. And just like LDS temples have ornate but meaningful decorations, some people choose to do the same with their own body.
  9. After watching the video, I can't say I think either side is 100% to blame for the incident. Not seeing the alleged gesture that the ambulance driver made after the cop passed him that triggered this incident to begin with makes it hard to determine if the cop was being way too hot-headed or whether the ambulance driver was being a jerk to begin with. I do think that if the "manager" had not gotten out of the back to approach the cop, the cop would have simply given a stern talk to the driver and then let him be on his way. I understand that the cop was trying to control the situation that seemed to be quickly getting out of control. I also understand that the family simply wanted to get to the hospital and didn't understand why the cop was seemingly harassing them, but surrounding the cop just put him even more on edge. I think the situation was unfortunate on all sides, but I don't think any action should be taken aside from maybe the cop's supervisor giving him a talk on trying to better keep his cool and the EMT team getting a talk on cooperating with the police.
  10. Fox News had something good to say about Obama.... are you sure there's not a followup story that speculates the note was actually laced with anthrax and the school is now quarantined?
  11. That's a very nice story. I do appreciate the first positive post on Obama (that's not from Elphaba) that I've seen on this site :)
  12. Earlier in this thread I stated that I thought his comments were tasteless.
  13. Umm... perhaps the title should read: "Children not off limits for comedians." I didn't even know David Letterman was a "liberal" and in my "liberal" opinion, I find him to be intolerably annoying even without this incident which I think is in bad taste (but as Elphaba said, he's a comedian, making questionable comments is what he gets paid for).
  14. I vote yes on the separate forum for politics, no on the 18+ requirement.
  15. I definitely have a liberal bias, but I would not consider myself a democrat, nor do I vote straight democrat (though I often find them a better choice than the republican candidate). Liberal is not necessarily the same as democrat, just like conservative is not necessarily the same as republican.
  16. Divine or not, anyone whose teachings are still talked of 2000 years later definitely qualifies as charismatic.
  17. Hmmm... it sounds like neither side wants them.
  18. The problem with religion and charisma is that religion relies on faith and faith is what a charismatic person is best at manipulating and using against you. While I don't believe charisma is inherently good or bad, it is used for bad far more often that it is used for good. Edit: Bah! Now I have the Cult of Personality song stuck in my head.
  19. I was more referring to places like newsmax that make up a significant portion of the things you post. If there were truly such a universal media bias toward Obama, I find it hard to believe you would be able to maintain your multiple anti-Obama links per day that we were discussing earlier :)
  20. Yes, some of the media have a pro-Obama bias and some of the media have an anti-Obama bias, like for instance the sources you link to :) It's hardly news that news sources are biased because they are businesses trying to get more viewers by catering to a particular audience.
  21. Are you doing anything about it or are you content to blindly disagree without even understanding the other side? I admit the I don't get the conservative viewpoint, but I would like to learn more about it because a large portion of the country feels very strongly about it. I would consider myself fairly liberal, but I've never thought to myself "Hey, we should increase taxes!" I think the biggest problem in US politics is the misconceptions about the other side.
  22. But if the ways are righteous, charisma shouldn't be needed.
  23. I don't think he's criticizing your posts as in the original content that comes from bytor so much as your habit of posting multiple articles at once with nothing more than snippets and links. Calling the posts "garbage" or "clutter" I don't believe is meant to insult you personally but point to the fact that your posting habits are getting dangerously close to spam. I've been on other forums that have rules against simply posting a link and/or snippet with nothing to contribute because people go to forums to discuss, not plug in to a news feed, that's what news sites are for. I don't suggest we implement something like that here, but I would kindly suggest that we would have better discussions if you limit your news article posting to once per day, or better yet explain why you find a particular article interesting enough to read and discuss.
  24. My wife recreated our household in The Sims 3 and it surprisingly accurate.
