I have read a varying opinions concerning progression after the judgement between kingdoms. I know that Joseph Fielding Smith states in Answers To Gospel Questions that progression from kingdom to kingdom is not doctrine, however I have also heard that the brethren in times past were not in agreement with this stance in particular B.H. Roberts, does anyone have any current references on this subject or even past references would be great. I would also like to here the boards point of view.

I actually would be more interested in your Views? And what you think (and how you came to that reasoning).

Here is the kind of the last word I have ever heard on it.

Heresy five: There are those who say that there is progression from one kingdom to another in the eternal worlds or that lower kingdoms eventually progress to where higher kingdoms once were.

This belief lulls men into a state of carnal security. It causes them to say, "God is so merciful; surely he will save us all eventually; if we do not gain the celestial kingdom now, eventually we will; so why worry?" It lets people live a life of sin here and now with the hope that they will be saved eventually.

The true doctrine is that all men will be resurrected, but they will come forth in the resurrection with different kinds of bodies--some celestial, others terrestrial, others telestial, and some with bodies incapable of standing any degree of glory. The body we receive in the resurrection determines the glory we receive in the kingdoms that are prepared.

Of those in the telestial world it is written: "And they shall be servants of the Most High; but where God and Christ dwell they cannot come, worlds without end" (D&C 76:112).

Of those who had the opportunity to enter into the new and everlasting covenant of marriage in this life and who did not do it, the revelation says:

Therefore, when they are out of the world they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are appointed angels in heaven; which angels are ministering servants, to minister for those who are worthy of a far more, and an exceeding, and an eternal weight of glory.

For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels of God forever and ever. [D&C 132:16*17]

They neither progress from one kingdom to another, nor does a lower kingdom ever get where a higher kingdom once was. Whatever eternal progression there is, it is within a sphere. The Seven Deadly Heresies - Bruce R. McConkie

I don’t know if I have heard anybody teach anything different then this. As this shows the scriptures as far as we have, teaches that Progression between kingdoms doesn’t happen. How far to take this we don’t know. There could be some type of progression in each kingdom, but that leads us off to stuff we don’t know. Edited by tubaloth

Here's the Gospel Principles lessons on it.

Postmortal Spirit World

The righteous and the wicked are separated (see 1 Nephi 15:28–30), but the spirits may progress from one level to another as they learn gospel principles and live in accordance with them (see Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 762).

The Last Judgement

Good stuff to think about.

No, They cannot have an Increase as it states in the D&C 131:

4 He may enter into the other, but that is the end of his kingdom; he cannot have an increase.

Thinking that you will eventually be able to move on and progress toward Godhood no matter what you did in this life is a bold faced lie.

in the words of Alma:

Alma 34:

32 For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors.

I can attest that those who receive the Celestial glory, will receive a white stone as John mentions in the Book of Revelation, with seeing those kingdoms above that state. This is the key for those who will inherit the Celestial state on what may come next.

If there was any progression, you still will not be with Heavenly Father in the end. The time is now to repent of all sins as Stampede quoted from Alma.

After writing a personal belief statement that day, 1 July, I should have known something was coming. LOL I suffered a Cardiac arrest that night was taken to the hospital. Locally, a priesthood member was attuned to the Spirit that night saved my life. :)

Okay, I just stared at my screen for a whole 30 seconds. I have no idea what to say to that. I'm just glad you are still alive.

You know, two days ago I almost started a thread titled "Where is Hemidakota?" and the first line of it was going to be "Is Hemi even still alive?" I swear, I'll never make a joke of your life again. Except to say that I find it ironic you reveal your health condition in a thread about Eternal Progression. Did you get any first hand insights?

But seriously, are you okay? How limited are your activities? What's the next few months look like for you? Have you started looking for flavored aspirin?

Yes for now. They cannot pinpoint what cause it and why. After going through an echo gram, the valves are thin, oversized arteries with no loss of flow – meaning no plaque or clogged valves. Yet, EKG shows heart rhythm problems.

I am not allowed to drive for now and that brings a great hardship for those who need to be there for me ensuring I can make meetings and so forth. I will be in and out for the next few weeks as I will begin to see different specialists to determine the problem. However, my wife asked afterward from the local priesthood who gave the blessing, what was his thought on what may had triggered it. He replied, what he felt that it was caused by an Aneurism.

I do suspect something will come this year but I am banking on a probation extension from the Savior. The best part is that my son was allowed to come home from his mission for now…

Thank goodness you are all right Hemi. A cardiac arrest is very dangerous. I'm glad your friend was there to help you, and am especially glad you are doing well now.

I see no reason to assume that anyone that desires the Celestial will not recieve it. I see no chance for injustice or any missing mercy form someone the deserves it. If there is or is not will not make a difference in justice or mercy. I see no reason to worry or concern for anybody.
