Bethie Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I've quit watching the news. In God I Trust. Quote
a-train Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Hmm, you kinda go it wrong -- it'sn definitely not communism.Pantheism on a social level is what the Zeitgeist movement calls for.And obviously, they have to use money, because we're in the monetary system?I don't actually support the ideas of the film -- but if you're going to criticise it, you oughta watch it!I did. And I reviewed the Venus Project's site. The whole message amounts to demonetization and the replacement of all government with a sort of neo-technocratic form of communism. They promote a 'resource-based economy' which "utilizes existing resources rather than money and provides an equitable method of distributing these resources in the most efficient manner for the entire population. It is a system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter, or any other form of debt or servitude." - (Their site)What is this proposed method of distribution which is so efficient? On this, they are silent. Also from the Venus Project's site:One of the basic premises of The Venus Project is that we work towards having all of the Earth's resources as the common heritage of all the world's people. Anything less will simply result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in the present system. Is this anything less than the same communist vision of Marx? Marx called for the end of monetization and the placement of all property in the hands of the people of the world as a whole. Like Marx, the problems the Venus Project decries would be infinitely magnified and perpetuated by its proposals as it requires society to obliterate individual rights. The Zeitgeist Movement is nothing on the Patriot Movement (Ron Paul) which calls for a safer commodities non-centralised monetary system. Ron Paul is a true patriot if there ever was one.I would agree with that. I would even say that the Zeitgeist movement is a counter-movement to the (Ron Paul Revolution) return to classical liberalism. But yeah, incase you haven't noticed ... American Capitalism is falling to it's knees at the moment, but if you look into the monetary system you see that it's totally engineered. What a contradictory statement. If the monetary system is so engineered, how capitalist is it? What we are currently seeing is not a falling to the knees of American Capitalism, but that of American Socialism. At the moment they're working on a new monetary system at these economic forums because they know they cannot keep pushing the same system in the same way, I personally predict an international central bank. But we'll have to wait and see...It's interesting that we're asked to defend and trust free market capitalism, and this is not a free market, by any means. Now you are talking my language. We are indeed living in a less and less free economic system as regulations and taxations increase. The best way to bring prosperity to all people is to allow free-markets and individual property rights. The Venus Project people make a big deal about the fact that the earth has all the resources to allow all human beings to live a high standard of living, and this is true. The most efficient method of distribution is a free market which upholds property rights.-a-train Quote
Palerider Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 CNN Money News Alert - -- The U.S. entered recession in December '07, according to National Bureau of Economic Research. that same report said we would start to come out of it around June of 2009 Quote
gabelpa Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 that same report said we would start to come out of it around June of 2009end of 07 to end of h1 of 09, realistically a year and a half of recession, paint me sceptical but... I don't buy it. Or maybe we'll "technically" be out of recession, but only by virtue of bottoming out. Quote
rameumptom Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 I agree. We haven't seen the bottom yet, and it usually takes at least 6 months after hitting bottom to officially be out of a recession. Given that, we'd have to be hitting bottom next month. I don't buy it. We'll still be dealing with the Big Three automakers, and other companies for months. And we'll be dealing with mortgages. And we'll be dealing with unemployment. And we'll still have the problem of massive public and private debt to deal with. Even Obama's plan to implement infrastructure jobs will take months to legislate, months to ramp up, and perhaps a couple years to fully implement. My prediction is that this recession, if it stays a recession will continue at least until this time next year. Perhaps a good Christmas sale next year may help pick things up. Quote
Hemidakota Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 I expect us to admit very soon, we are entering a global depression. Quote

Aesa Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 What a contradictory statement. If the monetary system is so engineered, how capitalist is it? What we are currently seeing is not a falling to the knees of American Capitalism, but that of American Socialism.Ah you're quite right, my apologies. The simple fact is this, world domination will fail. It failed at the tower of Babel and God clearly warns against this sort of unseemly acceptance of the status quo -- and just going along with what the masters want ... since he broke up the tower of babel community and all, the Roman empire failed, and so did many others. I am confident that in the near future the persecution of the true body of Christ will see persecution. It's being done with the "fundimental" muslims now, and they have these luke warm muslims and we're told "oh, but they're the good muslims!" when infact the fundimental muslims are the ones upholding Alquran. The same is happening on a lower scale with Bible believing Christians because the gospel of Jesus Christ preaches against obedience to global masters, against the "satanic empire" if you follow. You have the religions which are joining together and being moderate and saying ... well, they're all ways to heaven. Jesus would never have said that, and to me this proves the falsehood of the Mormon church because it teaches that people who live a noble life will encounter a form of glory... which is not true. The Bible says you are only complete in Christ, and Christ is all you need to be complete.Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.Eph 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.Do you suppost with the waining of capitalism will come the waxing of religion?Well, certainly not if these are the end times. The Bible talks of a massive falling away in the last days. Quote
a-train Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) Do you suppost with the waining of capitalism will come the waxing of religion? If history is any indication, we have the end of religious freedom to look forward to as capitalism is outlawed. That said, don't put on your funeral clothes and start mourning the death of all freedom just yet. la Résistance is building just as fast if not faster than the enemies of all freedom. Daily, men and women the world over join the ranks of freedom in cyberspace.-a-train Edited December 4, 2008 by a-train Quote

Perhaps a good Christmas sale next year may help pick things up.I think we will continue to have global economic shrinkage into 2012 at the least. By that time, there will be big changes in global economic policy as the central banks and world governments collude to produce a new system even more prone to artificial economic stimulation and malinvestment. While this will give special interests great advantages, it will be helpless to stop the spread of free-market thinking and activity.-a-train Quote

rameumptom Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 We would explain it to you, but then we'd be revealing the true secret of the "evils of Mormonism. " (we're trying to take over the world, ya know?) Quote
hineraukatauri Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Capitalism can be a good thing among a good people. But evil people corrupt all things. To the wicked, nothing is holy and sacred. That could be said about socialism as well (which maybe another thread I realise)So I found myself as a young single mother and the church teaches that a mother should be at home with her children. Well I was able to do that due to the welfare system. And I was so grateful for it. Also, when I went to my church leaders for financial support, I was advised to seek monetary support from first my extended family and then the welfare system before the church. So it cant be all that bad.As I prayed about it, I realised that it comes down to man not being able to govern mankind without righteousness based on the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Then, I was led to 3 Nephi 13. That brought things back into perspective for me. Quote

Hemidakota Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 If anything, my dream of a financial ruin is about to come: Over the next several months, the U.S. government will spend a staggering $5 trillion about what was spent fighting World War II in an effort to save the global financial system and jumpstart the economy. That enormous SEA of CASH will spark one of the biggest, fastest rally-backs in stock market history. Quote
rameumptom Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 $5 trillion is nothing. Wait until Social Security and Medicare collapse over the next decade or so. THEN you'll see some big numbers! Quote
FunkyTown Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Yep. Rameumptom is correct - An aging populace living longer and having fewer kids means that the cost of their retirement will be high indeed. Quote

That enormous SEA of CASH will spark one of the biggest, fastest rally-backs in stock market history. With that "logic," I don't know why they are so selfish and short-sighted. Why stop at $5 trillion, if that will bring a "rally-back." Let's really spark the economy--Zimbabwe style--and up the amount to unlimited. Those little green pieces of paper will bring true wealth--too bad you can't eat them or build (durable) houses out of them.$5 trillion is $16,666 in taxes for every man, woman, and child in the US. Since that's probably not likely to be where the money comes from (unfortunately as that might start a 2nd revolution), the printing presses will most likely need some extra toner. Quote
RobertP Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 In my mind, the health care system has already failed. Spending too much on things that don't work. Medicare is next. Insurance doesn't seem so hot either for normal people to me. Our job now is to know how to not get sick, a very tall order indeed, but possible I have to believe. More debt is no blessing. As for the key to who gets bailed out and who doesn't, I think Andrew Jackson had it pegged. http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quotes_by/andrew+jacksonGentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. In our day, that statement echoes loud in my mind. They gambled, they lost, and they charged it to the bank, the fed, us, no spoils to take here. They know every man his brother it seems to me. (Moses 5 if I am too ambiguous still) They know who should be bailed out and who they can let sink. So it seems to be to me. Quote
