i'm sorry maybe it's judgmental but i don't think single women should be getting invirto... much less 6 times.

the only time i've heard of a single woman getting it that i didn't think it was inappropriate was with a woman who her and her husband were in the process, just before implantation he unexpectedly died, it was put on hold and a couple of yrs later she decided to finish the process and have her husband's child. i could respect that.

so does this woman support all these kids herself or is she on government support?

ehtics are in question in so many things

do we limit how many children a person can have? do we say you can have 4 and you can have 2? If she was a "good Christian woman" who wanted 14 kids would that change how many eggs woudl be planted? who do we give the power to decide that?

then we have the single mom factor.. then we have the self reliance issue.. etc.. etc

we don't say how many kids one person or another can have... we can say, if you are not married, you can't support children, if nature doesn't permit you to have them we will not help you.

the woman i mentioned before with the husband that died, she could support her kid, if she could not have i would say she should not have done it either.

who paid for all this invitro, from what i understand it's not cheap?

I'm not trying to advocate a strict limit on the number of kids one can have, I just don't see how one person can take care of all 14 children, especially when 8 of them need intensive medical care and 1 out of the original 6 has autism. I'm most afraid for the physical safety of these children. I don't think it's ethical to have more children than one can adequately take care of.

She's never been married. Her mother is pretty much disgusted with her.

I don't think she had it six times. Generally, multiple embryos are implanted because it is expected that they won't all survive.

due to an issue with her fallopian tubes ALL of her children were conceived this way

the reason for the 8 this time was thats how many fertilized eggs she had left.. and she didnt want them killed.. (aborted so to speak)

Maybe I am wrong but any woman of reasonable mental and physical health can get IVF in the USA if she can pay for it. She also has the right to shop, so to speak, around for donor sperm and choose whatever characteristic she wants whether it is a "dark haired, Muslim of Yemenese descent with an IQ of..." or "red haired, Mormon of Irish/German descent with an IQ of...". You can find these descriptions in the catelogues of sperm banks with web pages on the net. Then again, some women opt for their doctor to order IVF donor sperm.

In Europe, shere the state is in charge of medical sevices, things are different. In Sweden the law recently was passed to allow lesbian couples to have access to IVF treatment. You can't shop for donors though (Sweden's still sensitive about the laws the socialists had until the 70s that allowed the state to sterilize people for the good of the state). The government there is considering proposals to allow single women to be able to get IVF as well (most now go to Denmark which has few restrictions). Great Britain is also considering getting rid of laws that bar single women from getting IVF (again, now they have to go to Denmark or the USA for it). The limit I believe in both nations is two children for IVF.

A couple of questions have been raised......depending on what state she lives in some fertility treatment is covered by insurance. Is it expensive very much so between $10,000 and $15,000 for one attempt. It is cheaper in Europe.....in the Czech Republic it will cost $5000. The number of embryos implanted varies from fertility clinic and the health of the mother (8 seems way extreme IMHO). Individuals/couples can freeze the embroyos to use in later attempts of IVF, yes it does cost for "storage". Some choose to donate those (either after a succussful IVF or after failed attempts). That being said that is an extreme personal decission that the couple has to make.

Octuplet Mother Happy To Be Single Mom

Posted Feb 3, 09 5:01 PM CST in US

(Newser) – The mother who recently gave birth to octuplets did so determined to raise them as a single parent, Us magazine reports. "She did have boyfriends. She did have someone who really wanted to get married," said the mother of Nadya Suleman. But those relationships just didn't work out. "She just wanted to do whatever she is doing by herself," said Angela Suleman.

Nadya's decision to have in vitro fertilization even though she already has six kids didn't sit well with her parents. "Her dad was extremely upset at her when he found out she did that again, and so was I," said Angela. Still, she considers her daughter a good mom. "She loves her children and she tries to provide the best she can for them." As for the new names, don't ask Grandma. "I really don't know all the names—there are quite a few.

I know everyone has heard about her and watched her on tv. Here is a link to more stories. She has been offered 1m to do porn and they brought her kids into with medical coverage. The link is below

I am just wondering what everyone's opinion is on this subject. Personally I think she needs mental help. I really do. She in my opinion is unfit for these babies. They deserve a home with a mom and a dad. They deserve a family whom can provide for them. I just think she made a really bad choice. I have 2 children and let me tell you they run me ragged. My husband and i raise them together and that is really tough. I wonder how she thinks she can handle 14 children when most mom and dad family's know how tough it really is. Let alone she has no money to raise them. I think she is living in a fantasy world. They said on the news she is an obsessed fan of Angelina Jolee and is you look at her face you can see how obsessed. I worry about the welfare of the children. What do you all think?

There's no way she can care for these babies and her other children by herself, she cannot provide the human touch, the comfort and support, or even the milk (human milk that is) for so many. What is the answer? Either she gets the oodles of money from the novelty of it all and gets nannies and a constant supply of artificial baby milk or these babies will be physically and mentally neglected.
