I just finished "50 Signs of The Times and the Second Coming" by David Ridges. I now can't decide on my next read. I have read Jesus the Christ twice, a Marvelous Work and A Wonder, Mormon Doctrine (most of it), most of Doctrines of Salvation and Answers to Gospel Questions. I'm looking for another good read. Something on doctrines in general, the atonement, Isaiah, or the Book of Revelations....stuff like that.

Any suggestions?

PS: I also read the scriptures....so you don't need to suggest those.;)

I knew it. I figured that would be a recommendation. I actually just fished it out of my basement. I have started it twice but never made it past the first 50 pages or so. The Articles of Faith is my fall back....it is at the top of my list right now if I can't find something that sounds better. I just put it on my night stand 10 minutes ago.

Yes, tubaloth, and the preface to that book is his last talk given in General Conference, not too long before he passed away. If nothing else, nimrod, get a hold of the preface to the book tubaloth shared with you. Or, just look it up on the Church website. It was called something about the Three Gardens of God, or something like that.

I borrowed a copy of "The Lost Language of Symbolism" by Alonzo Gaskill and it was pretty much awesome... If you're into that kind of stuff I guess :) I didn't read the whole thing, though. I just read a few chapters of interest so I could get the book back...

Right now I'm reading "The Discourses of Brigham Young" by John A. Widtsoe

"Rational Theology" by John A. Widtsoe is a good read. He was a general authority and wrote the book as a study guide for elders. It hasn't been in use for a long time, but brings up a lot of really interesting points about our relationship with God, Satan, and eachother.

Oh no..do we have to have another thread about good books? My list is already so long with books I would like to read...I will never get through them all. hahaha

I would recommend Hugh Nibley's books. All of them, though some are better than others. Especially recommend: Enoch the Prophet, An Approach to the Book of Mormon, and Approaching Zion (my favorite of all LDS books outside the scriptures).

I would also recommend the Encyclopedia of Mormonism as an update to Mormon Doctrine, as it was published by the Church (not an individual apostle) in the early 1990s for public use (and placed in libraries, etc). It is available for free to read online.

Isaiah for Airheads by John Bytheway

I do need this book. . . and it comes with a CD too.

I thought the OP wanted books about DOCTRINE!

Since when has JB stories and doctrine ever been in the same book or CD?

Hugh Nibley's Approaching Zion

I have to second this recommendation, even though i'm only halfway through. It has been a real eye opener for me.

Agreed! It should probably be required reading for all who have been through the temple.
