bytor2112 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 ROME, ITALY – LDS Church growth in this city, home of the Vatican, has been increasing in recent years. Many LDS members were unaware of this growth and were audibly surprised at the recent announcement in General Conference of a new LDS temple to be built in this city, long a strong-hold of the Catholic Church.more here Quote
FunkyTown Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 HURRAH! But seriously: Temple in Rome? I'm flying out to see its open house. Quote

Aesa Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Will the Rome temple be more extravagant in appearance, than say the more modern one's which are very bland? Will it be... more 'Salt Lake'-like? Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 The Rome Italy Temple will be built on a portion of a 15-acre site in northeast Rome near the circular road (beltway) that surrounds the city. The picturesque country site sits on the outskirts of the city at a freeway interchange.http://www.lds.net/forums/lds-gospel-discussion/14917-rome-mormon-temple-new-website.html Quote
Aesa Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I do hope it's a little more creative and original. A lot of them seem to follow a template. Quote
Moksha Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Will the Rome temple be more extravagant in appearance, than say the more modern one's which are very bland? Will it be... more 'Salt Lake'-like? A recreation of the Temple of Athena would make it an appreciated sight in the Eternal City. At least matching the local religious styles would not allow it to be an unwelcome eyesore. Quote
miztrniceguy Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 more herewell how many here can say the Pope was at their temple wedding? I can!! Quote
prisonchaplain Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 I do hope it's a little more creative and original. A lot of them seem to follow a template. I found an artist's rendition of the new Rome temple. It's very unique--though I think they'll need to lose the one flag. http://tatumweb.com/blog/pix/ag-hq-big.jpg Quote
hordak Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 well how many here can say the Pope was at their temple wedding? I can!!I can beat that. My wife and I are friends with Jesus. (Not in the typical way ) but in a sit down and break bread way. What many fail to realize is he is very fluent in Spanish:D Quote
HEthePrimate Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 A recreation of the Temple of Athena would make it an appreciated sight in the Eternal City. At least matching the local religious styles would not allow it to be an unwelcome eyesore. The problem with using an ancient Roman temple style is that someone might mistake it for a bank: For something a bit more ornate than the standard LDS temple, how about this one? pam Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 I love the mormonzone. I laugh at every article. Quote
miztrniceguy Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 if you saw the pope in the temple, you were probably in SLC until a couple years ago...she would have been about 85, and 4'10 maybe. Quote
