It has been brought to our attention that things have slowed down a bit here at LDS Talk. :o

Is everyone doing okay?

Are you planting gardens?

Swimming in flood waters?

Going on Vacations?

Or just mad? :P

It would be nice if you stroll by to drop a quick note to say "Hi, I am ALIVE!"

BTW, I am all but one of the above questions. ;)

I have popped in now and then.

It has been SlooooooooooooooooooooooW!

Un-like our lives here at home.

My daughter is due in 15 days; yes she has now taken up counting.

With her small family living in our only other bedroom and our Youngest has taken residing in the basement.

We are packed in tight here. its hard to know were every one is now in then, whos at work and so on.

In the mean time our dear friend was baptized two weeks a go and another friend is starting the discussions on Tuesday. We may be crammed in to a small house but the spirit has camped out here as fare as missionary work goes. :)

We are very excited for Dan. :D

Hey, I have been hanging around reading posts. I just haven't posted items myself. I was wondering if there was an active chat going on - day or night, or at all?

Thanks!

Welcome!

We used to do this on Thursday nights and it was fun! I am not sure if we still have access to the chat room that is "pinned" at the top of the page or not.

Anyway you should post we need some new things to discuss. Maybe we have just grown tired of each other and all of our own stories and that is the reason why thinks have slowed down. Tell us about your self.

SF,

I'm just fine. I'm working 60 to 80 hours per week. I have a very large garden. I planted corn, beans, onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, watermelons, cantaloupe, zucchini, cucumbers and pumpkins.

About 1 1/2 months ago we had a terrible storm that flooded streets and basements. We had baseball and softball size hail. Thousands of homes and cars were damaged by it. At one of my jobs about 30 cars had windows broken out by the hail. I've never seen anything like it before.

I've been riding my bike a great deal lately. I did drive the day of the storm though. The car on either side of me had their windows broken out, but I only had a broken mirror and some dents from the hail.

I had to replant a great deal of my garden. Most of my friends, my brother, my mother, and myself have a great deal of work to do to fix windows, siding, and roofs on our homes.

How long has this site been around?

I posted on an LDS site a while back (late 90's). I used to chat on an LDS site too.

Oh well, it's nice to have this one.

If anyone gets a chat going again, I would like to join.

I am a stay at home mom with 6 kids. I stay busy with them and thier activities of after school stuff, sports, and scouts. I also like researching my family history. It's gotten moved to the back burner since a few more kids joined my family. I live in TN.

I hope to get to know you all and I will post more often.

It's been pretty busy here in rainy Alberta, Canada.

My nephew got married last Saturday (the 11th) and I got a cold/flu the week before and gave it to almost all my family - so we've been keeping busy and sick here.

Have family staying with us until Wednesday. The wedding the very nice. Good weather for most of the day, rained lightly in the evening (good luck for the couple). The couple were married in the Edmonton Temple in the morning. At 2pm we had a family lunch in one of the LDS church buildings (lots of people). Then at 7:30pm there was a lovely ring ceremony in the chapel at a Stake Centre and then a very casual reception afterwards.

I commented to my friend (mother of the groom) that the ring ceremony was so nice especially for us non-Mormons. The Bishop gave a lovely and humourous talk regarding the couple. It is nice that the LDS church is being gracious to also consider non-Members of LDS families when it comes to wedding get-togethers. It makes it so much more of a family connected event, which is always welcoming and thoughtful.

The bride and groom both have a Scotish family heritage, so their wedding was Scotish themed. The bridal party wore kilts, except the bride; she wore a wedding dress with a Tartan sash - not only did the couple exchange rings but they also had the traditional pinning of the Tartan sash to the bride. The procession and recession music for the ring ceremony was with Scotish music. The couple left the Chapel and entered the gymnasium to a piper playing very familiar bagpipe music - it was very nice. Another Scotish tradition the couple did was to kiss over the wedding cake before the traditional cutting of the cake. And at the lunch the groom read the Robbie Burns' poem "My love is like a Red Red Rose." to the bride. The bride growing up was involved with musicals and band activities and the fella who sang at the lunch and reception also knew the bride from doing musicals together. He was a one man band and he was good, he even took requests and provided a very wide range of musical enjoyment for everyone.

The wedding had it's gliches (which makes it that much more memorable :) ) but over all it was a very lovely wedding.

And that's why I haven't been around lately.

SF~ You know how my life is ;)

I'm breathing...which is a good thing

I'm working....which is a good thing

And we'll just leave it at that.

Everyone is going to hurt you sooner or later. You just have to decide whose worth the pain.

Setheus....can I ask where you got that line from? I would like to send it to a friend.

Boy you sure work a lot! What type of work do you do?

You must have a large garden to plant all of that. :D I have a "garden area" where I plant tomatoes, cucumbers. cantolope, and pumpkins.

Where do you live to get that kind of weather? Does Insurance cover that kind of damage where you live?

It's nice that you will stay and post here. When I first came to LDS Talk I was "shocked" to see the variety in the cast of characters. It has been toned down a fair bit since then. ;)

Maureen,

That's really nice that they were allowed to have a Ring Ceremony after a Temple Wedding. When I got married over 23 years ago they told me that it was frowned upon in the church. My parents were less active and so they never even saw me get married. :(

Traveler,

I hope the new job is good one.

I hope that you are okay and that your surgery goes well. :)

SF,

I have a factory job at night and I work construction during the day. :P

I live in the mid-west. My garden is about 150 ft. x 100 ft. I grow extra produce for my mother, my brother and some elderly neighbors that are too disabled to care for a garden. :)

After the storm my bother went outside and filled a bucket with hail and put it in the freezer. He showed it to me the next day and they were all golf ball to baseball in size.

Before this storm, I had never seen hail so large or destructive before.

Home owners insurance will cover some of the damage, but you have to have a special flood insurance for flooded basement damage however.

SF - The couple wanted a ring ceremony because of family and friends that were not church members and the Bishop encouraged it also. The mother of the bride wasn't sure if the ring ceremony was a good idea; so my friend (mother of the groom) sent the bride (to show her mother) some "first presidency" information regarding how they have told members to do everything they can to include and be gracious to non-members. It seems that it might be just the older generation that would have a problem with change. If Bishops and SP's and such are all for this new evolving style, then the future is looking good for LDS members and their non-member families.

Maureen,

That is great. Isn't it interesting how new generations are able to change things within the church. The words that they told me 23 years ago are "We (the church I guess) consider any duplication following a temple ceremony to be a mockery to what occurred in the temple." You can bet that at the young age of 21 I did not contest that. I can still remember the hurt that I caused my parents when I told them that I couldn't have both. I also had a brother who was 14 at the time who could not witness my marriage along with more friends and family. I only had two grandmas that were able to be in the temple with me.

The Wedding sounded so wonderful and I am happy that the bride and groom got to share something very important with those whom they love. I guess they did the ring ceremony at the reception? Did the father walk the bride to the groom? Can you get a copy of what the first presidency has said concerning this? I would like to know for my children. I will also try to find it.

Hiya everybody...SF, thanks for raising this topic...My internet was suspended for 2 weeks and I had to use the net. at my friends' houses, which wasn't always the best environment in which to read message boards, especially this one where posts can be rather long and sometimes complicated...I'm sorted out for now, so back to reading in peace and posting along with everyone else.

My garden has recently had a makeover...a wish came true when a local chap knocked on my door a couple of weeks back, and asked if I would like him to work on it for me...because I am a lone parent and disabled he offered me a very cheap rate too!! I was so amazed that when it was completed I invited him and many others to a BBQ party to celebrate...we held this on Saturday evening and it was fab!

My daughter has just left school (she's 16) and is currently sitting her GCSE exams, and is hoping to go to college to study Child Care...she has had lots of physical problems over the last 2 years, and as a result missed almost a year of studying, so I'm really hoping that she has got the kind of results that she is hoping for...

Apart from that, my life has been pretty much the same as usual...helping out with the LETS trading scheme and Evolving Minds mental health self help group, and attending local Anarchist meetings...trying to sort out the world and it's problems! LOL...

Nice to see you all again...

I am still alive, though trying to avoid message boards for my own sanity.

Life is good. Not much to report.

Hi,

I usually hang out more on the FAIR board. I usually am to lazy to dig out my password from under my junk. I sometimes request a new one when I can't find my old.

Sincerely,

Dale
