Relentless Posted December 23, 2009 Author Report Posted December 23, 2009 No, it was garbage... Quote
Wingnut Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 I don't understand why everybody is giving this bad reviews. "Not going to see it because I don't like science fiction movies." I don't either I took a risk and saw it in 3d. I don't see any other movie ever topping this one unless it's another James Cameron movie. Huge fan of Mr. Cameron. Eventually everyone will see it because it will be a huge blockbuster hit just like Titanic. I felt like I was in the movie. I didn't want the experience to end it didn't feel like 3 hours. One of my favs of all time now.I'm the one who said that they don't like sci-fi. I'm not giving the movie a bad review -- how can I if I've never seen it? I simply said that I don't like sci-fi, and that is arbitrary to this particular movie. I just don't enjoy the genre. Despite your supposition of inevitability, I probably won't ever see this movie. I know people who still have never seen Titanic. Quote

I thought you don't think I will be exposing myself or my family to that garbage. Thanks anyway, James Cameron. So I made you change your mind huh? Quote

pam Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 haha good luck. That would be like trying to convert me to being a Broncos fan. It just ain't gonna happen. Quote
Relentless Posted December 24, 2009 Author Report Posted December 24, 2009 Pam pam pam, you can admit it, you already are a Bronco fan. Everyone knows it. It's ok, we all would like to congragulate you on the best decision you have ever made, and please know, we all support you in it. Quote
pam Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Relentless..have you considered getting help for these illusions you are having? Quote
Relentless Posted December 24, 2009 Author Report Posted December 24, 2009 No, why? Do you think I should? Can I see the same Doctor who helps you deal with the inevidible, soul-crushing, incapacitating sense of defeat you suffer every year at the hands of the Chargers? Quote
pam Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Interesting...have you seen the AFC West standings lately? Quote
Wingnut Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Relentless..have you considered getting help for these illusions you are having? You mean delusions? Quote
pam Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Yeh that too. I knew when I typed it, it didn't seem right. Quote
Relentless Posted December 24, 2009 Author Report Posted December 24, 2009 Interesting...have you seen the AFC West standings lately?I have. Did you see the Bronco's record after many "experts" predicted them to have 3-5 wins? Quote
pam Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 I will admit they did better than predicted, however, that doesn't change the standings. Anyway...we've gotten way off topic here. lol Quote
Dravin Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 To be back on topic: I saw it yesterday. I-Max 3D. I really like the 3D system they are using, way better than those crappy red and blue glasses of days yore. The 3D was well integrated, it lacked the cheesy, "Hey look at me! I'm 3D, be amazed!" that a lot of 3D movies have done in the past (Journey to the Center of the Earth Comes to mind). After a while you just kinda forgot it was 3D (not entirely sure if that is good or bad though). As far as the story. Sitting at I-Hop after the movie after a little discussion we came to a startling realization! It's FernGully! Admittedly it isn't exact and there are notable differences but there are a lot of similarities when you look at the plot in Macro. I enjoyed the plot and the pacing was spot on, you hardly realized it was 3 hours, it was over before you knew it. As opposed to say, 2012, where there were points where you were looking at your watch praying for it to just get over, or interesting again. Quote

checkerboy Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 I find it interesting that no one has really mentioned the anti-war or the racist propaganda that Cameron is spewing in this movie. I haven't seen it yet, nor do I have any real desire to. (I am a die hard Star Wars fan.) I just don't like to go to the movies to be preached at, especially when I have to pay for the preaching. Hollywood, just make good movies like you used to. I can read the editorial section or watch Fox News when I want a political fix. Quote
trixie Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) Another friend on Facebook just posted that they've decided that "Avatar is like Twilight for dudes."Minus the part where Avatar doesn't suck, no pun intended. *Dodges rabid fangirls* Edited December 25, 2009 by trixie Quote

prisonchaplain Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 I find it interesting that no one has really mentioned the anti-war I'm not sure that I'd stretch the war in Avatar (blatant forced removal of indigenous population to make way for mining operations) with anything going on now.or the racist propaganda that Cameron is spewing in this movie. Okay, so the humans call the locals monkeys, and disrespect their culture. Hardly connected to racism, however. If anything, I'd draw parallels to the experience of Native Americans or, perhaps, Aboriginals.Sorry Checkboy, but I thinking your stretching too hard here.I haven't seen it yet, nor do I have any real desire to. (I am a die hard Star Wars fan.) I just don't like to go to the movies to be preached at, especially when I have to pay for the preaching. You can get free preaching in jail, hermano. Quote

mnn727 Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) From the commercials the movie has appeared to me to be just a vehicle for showcasing special effect's -- and the commercials have not intetrested me in the least. If there really is a story, perhaps they should advertise what it is, it might generate more interest than just the male 15-35 demographic. Just watched the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" last night on DVD: a very poor imitation of the original and while I am both a "tree hugger type" and a SciFi fan myself I really think message movies are lame and this was one of the biggest message movies of the last decade. He doesn't make great advances in technology without a good story to sell it. e.g. Titanic, Abyss... Quote
