I'm living out of the U.S. right now and am looking to go to my Junior year of High School in Utah this August.

Does anybody recommend any good high schools in Utah? I'm looking for a higher level academic school and isn't too small (anything more than 500 students is fine). I kind of liked Timpview High in Provo. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Well... A lot of my friends went to Alta and Riverton HS, and they liked it quite a bit.

I didn't go to high school in Utah so I can't offer any direct experience, but those are my recommendations based on my friends.

What made you decide to come to Utah for high school?

My daughter went to Alta High School and enjoyed it there. It's got a huge student population. Rates high in the state in academic testing etc.

but that was a million years ago.

I think we have now solved the mystery concerning who is the oldest on this site.

How old is your daughter? One of my mission companions went to Alta.

Seriously, I have friends who went to Alta and it was just as brutal as the rest of Utah HS. I have to wonder why you want to go to HS in Utah. From your OP it sounds like you are choosing this.

She's 20.

Probably the Utah high school that best meets LDS standards is Juan Diego in Draper, Utah. It is a K-12 type school.

BTW, Hi everybody.

I think it should also be mentioned this is a Private Catholic High School. Edited by pam

I'm from America and have been living in Japan for two years and I wanted to experience a year of high school before I went off to BYU. I'm originally from Washington and I like skiing/dirt biking so I wanted to go to a place in the west like Colorado or Utah that's right in the mountains with lots of outdoor stuff to do. I thought it would be cool to go to a place (high school) with a lot of lds kids around.

I am kind of choosing where in Utah I want to go. I have quite a few missionary friends in different places in Utah whose parents have invited me to go live with them for a year. I want to go to a public high school but other than that I'm pretty flexible.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

I liked Skyview Highschool wh ile I attended it (in cache valley)... Had the best art teacher ever, but I think she's retiring.

Okay never mind. My companion is 29 or 30 by now. I knew you weren't old enough to have a daughter that age -- I don't know why I asked.

If you get to choose where you go, and you're headed off to BYU next year, why not pick someone in Colorado, or otherwise outside of Utah. If you're planning on spending the following four years in Provo, take advantage of the opportunity to go somewhere else for a year first.

As I majored in Secondary English Education while in Utah and heard the rumors about the school systems there I will not add my advice on the matter as it sounds like you want to attend a school there. Instead I will say that this sounds like a fun adventure for you, and I wish you good luck at BYU when you get there!
