pam Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Oh poor Jeremy. He did horribly. But Evan Lysacek was absolutely wonderful. Plushenko is still as cocky as he has always been. Quote

Wingnut Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 So, I've been curious about the USA snowboarding uniforms because it looks like they're just wearing their jeans down the mountain (and in the half-pipe), which would be very "in character" and very cool as well, but wouldn't provide movement, warmth, or flexibility needed. then I came across this article about the "Anti-uniform": Burton Introduces ‘Anti-Uniform’ for U.S. Snowboarders - Vancouver 2010 Blog - NYTimes.com Quote
pam Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 They had a story about that a couple of days ago, and the company that provided the uniforms wanted a jean type look though they aren't actually jeans like you or I would wear. I like them. Quote
pam Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 (edited) Shaun White is absolutely amazing. For those of us who are time delayed..I haven't seen the 2nd run so don't tell me anything. lol Edited February 18, 2010 by pam Quote
Wingnut Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 LYSACEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Oops...uh, this post contains a spoiler.) Quote
pam Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) I'm glad I didn't see this before. I would have been soooooooooooooooo upset. I think people need to be courteous to us in the western side that are seeing the events on tape delay. Edited February 19, 2010 by pam Quote
Maureen Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Christine Nesbitt of Canada won gold in the 1000m long track speed skating. I've been hoping one of our stations here will repeat the race so I can watch it, but no one will. I want to watch the race from start to finish, especially since I know how it ends. M. Quote
pam Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Oh man. That's the one coming up next for me. Well now I won't need to watch it. But only because I missed the earlier. But that's okay. We have a station that shows most of the highlighted events which is nice. Quote
pam Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Maybe we need to have a rule that you can't post winners until the next day. Quote
AnthonyB Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Since no body has mentioned it yet, the Australian flag bearer, Torah Bright (an LDS church member) won a Gold medal in the "half pipe". Quote
pam Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Oh I didn't know she was LDS. That's awesome. Quote
Wingnut Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 She lives and trains in SLC. Her parents aren't at the Olympics because she's getting married soon and they could afford to go to the Olympics or her wedding, and they chose her wedding. My husband said he would have chosen the Olympics. Quote

pam Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I have to admit. The ice dancing bores me. Quote
Lbybug Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 it bores me too....i changed the channel for it, but had to keep turning back cause i didn't want to miss the skeleton. and boy am i glad i caught the final round of it! Quote
pam Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Ice dancing just lacks the excitement of the jumps etc. Quote
Lbybug Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 i still don't understand the difference between ice dancing and figure skating. as for skeleton and luge.....i think they need to have an event in the summer olympics for watersliding.....since it's almost the same thing Quote
pam Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I think in ice dancing they have to be in touch the entire time except for a couple of seconds to change hands etc. They don't do the jumps and the spins etc like the pairs figure skaters do. It's just doing like the tango etc on ice. Quote
Wingnut Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Your husband needs to adjust his priorities. He figures everyone can say they've been to their daughter's wedding, but how many people can say they watched their daughter perform in the Olympics? I'm with you, though. :)I have to admit. The ice dancing bores me.I'll watch the original dances and the free dances. I watched the first one or two pairs during the compulsory dances tonight, and I heard the commentators say that all the moves and everything is completely prescribed in the compulsory dance, even the order and everything. So I decided I didn't need to watch the exact same thing 15 times tonight. Then I stuck in a disc of Alias and watched it for 3 hours.I need a life. Quote
Lbybug Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 i just briefly heard the CTV commentators say this is the last year for the compulsory in ice dancing at the olympics. did anyone else hear that? or was it wishful thinking on my part? Quote

pam Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I guess I missed that but I wasn't paying much attention to that event. After watching about 3 couples I was like Wingers and thought..I don't need to watch 15 more of this. Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 pam...seems that you and i...matbe a couple others, actually like curling. did you see the US beat France last night? and watching the ladies in the downhill skiing....just incredible. Quote
