NeuroTypical Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 (edited) So, after WWII, the British empire controlled Palestine (there was no state of Israel). The British had a limit on Jewish emigration into Palestine. An underground Jewish organization, working through the "Potomac Shipwrecking Co. of Washington, D.C" bought a boat, filled it up with hopeful Jewish emigrants, and headed for the Mediterranean. A British cruiser and a bunch of destroyers followed it from the early stages of it's voyage, and the Brits boarded it offshore. The boarding was challenged by passengers, the British soldiers used force. 3 shipmates died, a handful were wounded. The Brits decided to send the boat back to France, because they knew if they didn't stop the boat, it would just be the first of many. France refused the emigrants. The emigrants conducted a 24 hour hunger strike. The British sailed the boat to Hamburg Germany, then in the British Occupation Zone. The world, who had just united against Nazi Germany and the concentration camps, watched as the British used 200 soldiers to storm the ship, and use tear gas and violence to force a bunch of Jewish refugees (some who had survived the holocaust in Germany) back into concentration camps in Germany. That was Aug 1947. The world had been watching the saga for a year. In Nov '47, the UN partitioned Palestine and created Israel. One can argue how much impact that boat's story had on world events, but at the end of the day, that boat was part of an orchestrated propaganda war by the Jewish political group Haganah. Few would argue they were unsucessful. Now here we are in May/June 2010. A bunch of people who want to make life hard for Israel, working through a Turkish NGO, loaded up a flotilla of boats with humanitarian supplies and headed to Gaza. Israel told them to dock in Israel and transport the supplies into Gaza from there, but the boats refused. Israel boarded one, and there are now a bunch of killed and wounded. We've watched this movie before - it's the same plot as 1947, only with humanitarian supplies instead of refugees, and everyone has changed roles. This event is part of a propaganda war against Israel. This war aims to make life harder for Israel in any way possible. The war has fronts of world opinion turning aginst Israel, Israeli politics and politicians, wedge creation between Israel and the US, ruining Israel's ties with Turkey, etc. To the extent any of these goals are realized, this action of the propaganda war will be successful. Whatever side of the current events you wish to take, just be aware that the reason you're taking it now, is because someone is wanting to play you like a violin. Happy geopolitical thinking! talisyn Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 I just read this article Turkish (blood)bath - NYPOST.com Ordinarily I don't read this paper but I like this commentary. Especially the part with the 'peace activists' wielding iron bars. Sky news video was talking about how they could see the bars but no knives. If I was getting hit by an iron bar I wouldn't be wondering about knives Quote

NeuroTypical Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 Here's a of the assault. You'll notice the Israeli's rifles are actually paintball guns (I'm assuming with some sort of non-lethal riot-controlling ammo of some kind). They were later cleared to use their pistols, which is probably what caused the fatalities.Yeah, peace-loving non-violent aid-bringers my aunt fanny!LM Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Rubber bullets? I use to love watch the UK military use them and see them bounce off objects. Quote
Traveler Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 If the people behind the ships trying to run the embargo were smart then the ships will only have humanitarian aid packages onboard. Thus they can start the confrontation and point in blame. The looser in this conflict is most likely whoever the USA does not support 100%. I am saying this because I believe the USA will shaft Israel. It seems to be the current political solution coming from the White House. The results will be experienced for at least the next 20 years in both Israel and the USA. The Traveler Quote

john doe Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Is there anything found in any of those flotillas that contain weapons, IDE devices, or of that nature? No weapons finds announced, but according the the Jerusalem Post, supplies that would have limited peaceful humanitarian use. Also, suspected terrorists and lots of money. Article here: IDF: Global Jihad on flotillaAn excerpt: During its searches of the Mavi Marmara on Tuesday, the military also discovered a cache of bulletproof vests and night-vision goggles, as well as gas masks. On Monday morning, at least nine foreign activists were killed during the navy’s takeover of the Mavi Marmara, which was trying to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip. The group of over 50 passengers with possible terror connections have refused to identify themselves and were not carrying passports. Many of them were carrying envelopes packed with thousands of dollars in cash. The military is working to identify the passengers and is looking into the possibility that some of them have been involved in terror attacks. Some of them are apparently known Islamic extremists. Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Thanks for the update...it was suspected by American Intelligence services this was a cover up flotilla in bringing in these fanatic 'infidels' [using the same fanatic terms for any but their beliefs] into the Gaza strip for some later planned mayhem. I highly doubt that the Israel intelligence would do something so stupid in raiding a ship with real aid unless they knew something else was on-board it given by an informer. Quote

Traveler Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 And if USA is on Israels side .. they will get even more people against them everywhere in the world.... Maya - you are such a kind friend. However, other nations will only stand against us if they believe that we are weak. Whenever there is conflict people will gravitate to the side they believe will win. The judge the winners based on the battles fought. Only if people believe we will lose will they stand against us. BTW this strategy was utilized by Alexander the Great. When he defeated the armies of a country he was able to raise more support for his armies than the peoples were willing to give to support the armies of their country. A peaceful settlement to avoid war can only be obtained if those seeking war perceive that their enemy will defeat them in battle. The Traveler Quote

It's funny that the pictures that prove the IDF members were hurt were provided by an extreme anti-Israeli group. It's like they want to show the West how cruel the soldiers were and show the Middle East 'Yeah we kicked Israel's butt!' Quote
