Last_Daze Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 I really like it. I actually remember thinking in the past that the old site was not very "churchlike"; not up to the level of a worldwide church with several million members that takes a certain pride in its public image. The new one is at least more aesthetically pleasing. What say ye? Quote
Guest Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 I love it too! Took me a while to find the primary manual but I'm sure I'll get my bearings in no time... Quote
bytebear Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) They changed the URL structure of the scriptures. it used to be scriptures.lds.org and now its lds.org/scriptures/ I think a lot of people are going to have to redo their links because the redirection doesn't work right. I am going to have to get used to searching with the new layout. I am glad they let you hide the footnotes now in the page. that will make copy/paste so much easier. pam Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 One thing I don't like about the scripture part is..I used to be able to link to a particular scripture. Now it links to the entire book or chapter. I liked the older version better for scriptures. Quote

Jason_J Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 I like the new website. It includes a lot more general information on the organization of the Church, temples, the plan of salvation, etc., especially compared to the old website. This seems to make it more accessible for non-members (though of course there's also mormon.org). I also like the new Store! Quote

MarginOfError Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Make sure you sign in and use the notebook! You can highlight the scriptures and talks, leave notes, tag your thoughts, and index them for your personal study. It's really slick. Oh, and don't forget to check out the directory and calendar applications. Quote

Jenamarie Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 The new store is a VAST improvement! The old store was so annoying and difficult to navigate. I agree with Last-Daze that the old lds.org just didn't have the organization and aesthetic pleasantness (is that grammatically correct?) of other Church publication endevours. It seemed rather slapped together. Quote
MarginOfError Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) The new store is a VAST improvement! The old store was so annoying and difficult to navigate.Unless you need to order office, sports, or banquet supplies. That connection was disabled in the transition and now I have to find all my order numbers and phone the order in. Very inconvenient. They hope to have that repaired in a few months though. By that time, I'll be in full agreement.EDIT: I look foolish now. I just looked, and the connection to Staples E-way is working again. Hooray! The new store rules. Jbdf Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 I actually thought the old site looked pretty slick, personally. I haven't navigated it all that much so far on the new version, but I'm not very impressed with the aesthetics so far, and I agree with Pam about the new way the scriptures are available on there. The format of the URLs for those now seems just so... cumbersome... in comparison to the way they used to be. That's my opinion, at least. Quote
mnn727 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) I really HATE the new Church websiteDifficult to find what your looking for and finding a scripture by putting in a few key words is almost impossible- had to go to an outside Bible site today to find a verse I should have been able to find on my first attempt (and I did find it there first try)I don't want to study online, I'm not going to add notes or bookmark online scriptures. I want to be able to find verses and quotes and copy them for my use whether it be into MS Word for a talk or a lesson or to post on a message board, the old sdite made this so easy. Now when you copy and past a section of verses each verse has the full Book:Chapter: Verse number in front of it - just more stuff to delete. It just doesn't work - I know you can go to the "classic" start page, but the links still take you to the new stuff. And the new "Store" don't get me started on that - Y-U-C-K can't find anything! Edited December 12, 2010 by mnn727 Quote
