He died in a four-wheeling accident, and I remember being sad and somewhat indignant that everyone cared about Di and no one cared about a person that some of us actually knew. A "real" person, who left behind a family and a grieving mother.It's been 17 years today since the Northridge earthquake. I remember that one quite vividly. I remember and felt that one myself. I was living in San Diego. Sleeping in a waterbed. The bed was sloshing around. I was thinking my spouse (ex spouse I should say) is really restless sleeping. Born in Inglewood, lived in Torrance until age 8, then moved to Central CA right after the Sylmar earthquake in '71. Even up here I still felt Northridge (and Loma Prieta and a few others). I've about had my fill of earthquakes, and all of the California is sliding into the ocean jokes. But then again, that means I get beach front property when it drops at the San Andreas fault line. Depending whether or not the delta gets flooded. The San Joaquin valley may be a great big salt water lagoon. Maybe I'll be in Utah with my in-laws by that time. If you are trying to get away from earthquakes, don't come to the Salt Lake Valley then. We have one of the top 5 biggest faults that run along the Wasatch Mountains. I sat with my family and watched Neil Armstrong land on the moon. I still have a piece of the Berlin Wall in my deceased Dad's cuff link box (it fell and he died in 1989). Iggy Posted January 19, 2011 Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 November 22 1963- JFK was assassinated Thanksgiving, Nov 28,1963 my little sister died. I was 11 she was 10. I thought the entire world was grieving with us over her death, not JFK. It wasn't until I was 16 that I learned who JFK really was and that he died 6 days before her. My sister had a brain tumor- she was rushed to the hospital in the wee hours of the morning on the 22nd of November. Our TV wasn't turned on from that day until a month after her funeral- so us kids really had no clue what was going on in the outside world. No it wasn't a religious, or cultural thing. My Dad and Mom just did not want to hear the TV and us kids did other things to occupy ourselves. Quiet things like read, sew, embroidery, knitting. She will be 58 years old this Sept. It always amazes me that even after so many decades I still miss her. Last year was 40 years since I graduated from High School. 41 years since the Columbus Day storm. 46 years since the earthquake in Seattle that shook our house so hard that one side of the house had to be repaired and reinforced, also caused extensive damage at Ballard High and James Monroe Jr. High. I did also go though that quake that Niqually quake some years ago. We lost half the fireplace chimney. Mom told me all about the Columbus day storm. she was working in a hospital in Portland. She told me the bricks were being ripped off the roof. I was at the 12th street bridge when the Kingdome was exploded. I've heard of and known of many of the other events on the list (espicially #2 and 5), but I have NEVER, NEVER heard of this guy.Also, I believe that the Columbia disaster was around this time of year as well, about 8 or so years ago, right?
