I've never really understood A, and I don't recall any counsel to this effect (could have been given, I just don't recall it). I mean garments, in this dispensation, were first worn in an agrarian society without air conditioning. If Farmer Brown was endowed and sweat was offensive to the garments he'd have to leave them at home when he went to work his fields or split some rails.

I accept A when people say that's why, but I find in the privacy of my own home garments alone make a perfectly suitable yoga uniform. Then again, my exercise consists mainly of yoga and swimming, so I don't have any real experience with garments and sweaty exercise.

Had my temple recommend interview recently. Told the Bishop about how I go to the gym 4-5 times per week, and don't wear my garments while at the gym. He reaffirmed my understanding that was fine - that my attitude, and respect I have for what they are symbols of, are what's important.

I find the balance on the perspective of garments interesting. When do you become so obsessed with wearing the garment as much as possible you forget its meaning? Or when do you become prideful in your deep and meaningful understanding of the garment that you figure said understanding warrants far too many excuses for not wearing it?

Looks like me and the wife decided to go without the garments. Thanks loudmouth mormon, your input made sense. If priesthood leadership sees it ok to go work out without them, surely they would understand not wanting sweat/dirt/ and more importantly paint stains. But again this is my personal outlook. Those who would still wear them, I support your decision.

And just for good measure, skippy no hard feelings, though I must completely disagree with your reasoning behind calling garments your g's. Just because im viewing this thread from a smart phone and choose to short hand write my responses doesn't at all mean I have any less respect for my temple covenants than anyone else. Also, many times I call them g's outloud, and have never been corrected by anyone, more importantly my grandparents who are temple workers themselves.

I would ask you don't be so quick to judge on such little things. I understand and support your opinion of what you refer your garments as, but I don't believe a mod should enforce his opinion on anyone by changing my words.

If you would like to show some references on a prophet or apostle enforcing this I would gladly change it myself.

Still no hard feelings. I just ask that we agree to disagree

No problem. But since you did ask, here's a good link on the subject:

Light-Mindedness - The Encyclopedia of Mormonism

In my opinion, refering to the garments as anything other than garments falls under this category.

You are free to disagree with me and I promise you won't hurt my feelings. :)

On the other hand keeping one pair for activities that might stain AND keeping those as clean as possible might be a good compromise. Or you might try different fabrics that might be more stain resistant. Nylon perhaps?

If you have a pair of garments that have a stain do you dispose of them? If not are you demeaning the garments? I can think of several regular occurrances that this might be problem as well as paintball, not to mention buying all new ones and having my husband toss in his new denim jeans with them. Frankly I cannot afford to dispose of even stained ones. In that case wouldnt it make sense to wear previously stained ones when I suspect they might be stained again to prevent more garments from being stained?

i personally think this is where you begin to get into the topic of opinion. I dont think the Lord will condemn me for my reverence of not wanting to purposely stain them as he wouldnt condemn another for feeling the need to wear them as much as he felt comfortable. When we get -this- far into should or shouldnt i, its honestly up to you and the lord. Some feel when youre sick you should stay home from church, others feel you go until youre absolutely incapable.

thats why i asked for opinions. If my garments had a stain, yes i would dispose of them. others have a more rigorous lifestyle like farmers for example where a stain is a daily occurrence.

So, during the paintball game yesterday, I brought this up with those players who were endowed. While a few of them did not wear their garments during the game (either because of heat or of fear of getting them stained) most did wear them and saw no reason no to. They were comfortable, felt the 30-minute scenarios with breaks inbetween didn't get them irritating hot, wore enough protective layers they didn't worry about painted garments, and generally didn't see enough reason to not wear the garment.

... I think I might be changing my opinion...

Should garments be put back on immediately after sporting events? The reason I ask this is because my mother ran into our Stake Presidents wife in the grocery store right after she finished playing tennis (she belongs to a tennis club) and she was still in her tennis shorts (which don't cover garments!). Is this acceptable? Just wondering.

I think your stake president needs to have a firm talk with his wife. She is a naughty, naughty girl. Spankings might be in order.

This sounds gossip on the part of your mother, no offense. Perhaps this woman attends her sporting events in the same uniform and had to hit the store on the way back. I also feel panicking over how long till the garment is put back on is ridiculous.

The question you should be asking (and not on an internet forum) is: Is the Lord accepting of my routine to not wear my garments immediately after completing my sporting activity? Is He ok with me to continue to wear my tennis skirt?

Once again--ask the Lord about your own decision for yourself. Not what is acceptable or unacceptable decisions of others.

She accidentally left the French maid outfit at home. Not really her fault.

I guess we are learning what Vort likes...

I was just so tickled at the idea of someone getting offended by his stake president's wife wearing a tennis outfit. I couldn't help myself.

No, I don't. Please enlighten me.

They are the type of women that wear tennis outfits, sometimes even after having finished playing tennis.

The word is "brazen".

Excuse me while I wipe down my monitor from spewing a little of my herbal tea on it :lol: My, has this thread degenerated pretty humorously.

So am I to understand that there really is no right or wrong as to when, where or how often you wear your garments, and that it's all up to your own personal discretion?

You sound astounded at such news. Why is that?
