I have noticed that lately these are becoming more common. I am not meaning all over bright pink hair, just subtle tones of peekaboo highlights. I have seen a few YW in our ward with them, and I like them and wouldn't mind having some. Are they considered extreme? Would they be frowned on in the Temple?

I personally think pink hair is completely inappropriate for temple worship. But mine is not an authoritative opinion.

What do you mean "frowned on?" Do you mean that people will frown at you? Or do you mean that the temple workers won't allow you inside?

For the first, smile back. For the second, call the temple to find out.

I always wanted pink hair, but refrained because I wouldn't be comfortable in the Temple. Then that weird chick on Disney showed up with her pink wig and eliminated that wish.

I don't know about highlights. Calling the temple is probably best.

I used to dye my hair in streaks of pink or purple. I haven't done it for a few years, so I've never been to the temple with them. I don't know if it's entirely inappropriate. I doubt you'd be stopped at the temple.

It's unlikely she would be stopped entering the temple, or have any comments made by the temple workers. In only very rare circumstances will a valid temple recommend holder be stopped at the door, it's just not the temple's policy. You could go through in baggy jeans and t-shirt if you wish, and probably wouldn't (and shouldn't) be stopped.

What probably will happen, is that at some point during her visit, depending on the severity of the dyed hair, a member of the temple presidency will have been alerted and will take her aside and have a quiet word about general attire and appearance in the temple.

Last time I was at the temple, I noticed a woman with a very large tattoo on the back of her neck. She wasn't booted out.

Yes, I know a tattoo is a little more permanent than hair dye, but I did not spend all my time focusing on the tattoo. I was at the temple, I was focused on my spirituality.

If anyone were to become truly upset at the appearance of another at the temple, perhaps that person should practice on focusing on themselves.

I will say that I was distracted by seeing "Satan" at the temple. I kept wondering if he was following me as I saw him at the temple, at lunch, at some of the other site seeing places in Nauvoo.

LOL. One of the young women in my ward has bright red, rasberry red coolaid looking hair that just makes me laugh. Though I have not seen her at temple, I don't think anyone has said anything.

Thanks for your replies guys, I will phone the Temple and ask them. For me I don't see anything wrong with it, but I want to be respectful to Temple standards so will ask them to make sure. I know I will get some looks from others in my ward, but that's only because I live in an ultra Conservative ward which is steeped in tradition as we are in the South and very rural. :D Very difficult for someone who comes from a big city which is a lot more liberal.

This is not conservative vs. liberal. It's appropriate vs. inappropriate. There is nothing wrong with blue jeans and a t-shirt, but it's not appropriate temple wear. Same with pink hair.

I am really curious what your reasoning is, Vort. Care to elaborate?

Why do I think pink hair is inappropriate for temple worship? Because pink hair is designed to draw attention to oneself.

Posted

No, actually, anne, I think someone who had terribly matted hair and stinks to high heaven would draw attention to yourself. Basic grooming and hygiene standards do not draw attention to yourself.

Depends on whos attention and what kind of attention.
