MorningStar Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 There are many pet names, but this one bugs me the most. I don't get it. Why do adults in romantic relationships call each other "baby"? Discuss. Quote
mrmarklin Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 I don't and neither does my wife. Quote
Vort Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 There are many pet names, but this one bugs me the most. I don't get it. Why do adults in romantic relationships call each other "baby"?Discuss.Because I was raised with the idea from romantic songs in the '60s and '70s. Quote
MorningStar Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 I want to know the origin. Who started it? Quote
pam Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Not something I would do but...different strokes. Quote
Guest Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 That's not one we've felt compelled to use either, though I do find myself calling my husband "Babe" now and then. But he is a total babe, so. . . Quote
MorningStar Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 As a teenager, I was listening to the radio one day and remember counting 80 something songs that referred to someone as "baby". So "Be My Little Baby" (not sure of the actual title) is not a song about adoption? Quote
Guest Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 If we're getting our terms of endearment from songs, we should be calling our sweethearts "Baybay", not "Baby". Quote
pam Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Reminds me of the song with the lyrics "Baby baby baby oh baby..I love you." Quote
MorningStar Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 Every song should have the word "schmoopy". "Be my little schmoopy ....." My husband absolutely hates all pet names. Sometimes I'll call him "lover buns" or something to bug him. Quote

MorningStar Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 To me, a baby is someone who cries all day, barfs on me repeatedly, and occassionally poops on me, much to my dismay. Quote

I've exhausted the other things after being housebound most of the week. Now my son is puking, so I will have another intriguing subject tomorrow, I'm sure. Quote

Vort Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 · Hidden Hidden I call Sister Vort "baby" occasionally. I have done so since before we were married. She has never expressed displeasure at my use of the term, so I have had no particular cause to change. I also call each of my children "baby", but for a different reason.

You must stop this practice for the sake of my pet peeves. Just remember: Nobody puts baby in a corner. Quote
applepansy Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 It bugs me and fortunately my husband doesn't call me "baby" or "babe" or "sweetie" He might get slapped if I was in the wrong mood. Maybe he knows this. LOL Quote
