So... I think I'm beset my this desire to start providing for my unborn child. Another forum I belong to actually pays me in Amazon gift certificates for hanging about the forum (tis a marketing group thing), which I like to use to buy myself frivilous items and sometimes even useful things. I have pre-ordered a couple of books that I really really really want to read and plan to pay for most of the cost with these gift codes.

Now I'm suddenly thinking, hey, you could cancel that order and start using the gift codes to buy baby stuff, like a good mom would.

Or I could get my books and THEN start using the codes for baby stuff.

The bookworm in me wants my books. The mom in me wants to start baby shopping.

Treat yourself.

The only things you really need to stock up on before baby arrives are a box of diapers and a box of wipes. That's really about it. Of course, I didn't take my own advice and went crazy shopping before my daughter was born. Turns out, a lot of the crapola I invested in, was never really used.. So unless it's diapers and wipes, I say treat yourself and pamper yourself a bit before your bundle of joy arrives. Also, there's no need to buy brand new things for baby (again, I should have taken my own advice at the time and saved money..). Clothes and toys can be purchased for a fraction of the cost at stores like Kids-to-Kids or at awesome yard sales. Yes, I did say yard sales. My daughter grew so quickly in her first year, many of her clothes and toys were resold back to Kids-to-Kids in a jiffy.. Oh and another thing about clothes - babies really only wear onesies and sleepers their first year - really! LOL Again, I didn't take my own advice on that one.. If you're talking about big ticket items, you can still go second hand for a lot of it and save a lot of money.. Again, didn't take my own advice!

I truly am loving the yard sales. I need to find out if it's a boy or a girl so I can shop a5t those things better. Though I am buying both stuff, figuring I know people who are having both boys and girls.

My thought process is "free stuff", so I can't help but think "free baby stuff".

How far along are you now?

Babies don't need nearly as much as babiesrus and Target want you to think. Most of the crap we accumulated just meant more stuff in our house to trip over.

16 weeks.

I have this discussion with other pregnant co-worker. It's amazing what we're "supposed" to have.

My list:

diapers and wipes

clothing

bottles

Mode of transportation

place to sleep.

There will come a time when you won't be able to read as much as you would like when baby comes. Get in as much reading as possible now. :) And other people will also buy lovely things for your baby, so it's a win win.

Place the order for the baby jogger right now!

You can get Joggers on KSL under $100 and those things are typically around the $300 ballpark.

The DI is so good to baby shop at. Baby books are great. A few is enough though. Most of them repeat each other. Dont forget a couple of good pregnacny books and the DI always has lots of those.

One piece clothes are a blessing straight from God. They dont pull up or down and are easy to take off and on. Love them.

There are a couple of children's consignment shops here that have them for under $100, and of course Craigslist. Not that you'll be needing a jogger until at least 6 weeks after they're born.

This dilemma is going to go on for years to come.

Our family don't do the Parents first, or Kids first. It's Family first. So, whatever is good for the family as a whole goes. The family does not revolve around the baby. The family does not revolve around mommy. But, the good of the baby AND the good of the mommy both contribute to the good of the family. So... books or baby things? Depends on what's the most pressing need at that point in time. One thing I learned from being pregnant - if mommy is not happy, baby is not happy.

And the best jogger I've had was the one that can be converted to connect to the bike. Gave me several options - walk, jog, or bike or all 3 at the same time. The thing converts very easily, so I can connect it to the bike, bike to the park, disconnect the jogger from the bike, pop in the front wheel, and go walking around the lake. It also folds easily so it can go in the van with the bike on the rack. I got mine second hand from Play it Again Sports. Lasted for years and then I sold it back to the store.

Folks, I despise running. No baby jogger for me.

Though the husband enjoys running... and I'm sure he'd *love to go jogging with the baby while I do something else.

*Translation: he WILL go jogging with the baby, like it or not.

Baby jogger hands down is the best all around stroller made. Even if you are not a jogger. Get 16" wheels, rolls great on all surfaces(I've seen umbrella strollers on cobblestones, not fun) great for walking, shopping, converts to bike trailer and back to stroller easy, it's LIGHT!(big plus). We used ours for two kids and MANY kilometers while in Europe, then brought it home and gave it to my sister who used it, now her sil is in possession. Of course I'm thinking like a man......best investment we made......even better than the 529's.....lol

lol funny! You could get one of those pull along contraptions for biking. I always wonder what happens if the bike tips over though.

My unsolicited advice for first time pregnant ladies:

Before the birth of your child, make sure of the following -

1) Buy a portable crib/bassinet.

2) Stock up on diapers and wipes (Huggies were the best for us).

3) Have a few packs of onesies.

4) Get a bouncy chair.

This will get you prepared for the first few months. During that time you'll get a feel for what more you need.

My unsolicited advice for first-time fathers:

Doctor will say no sex for at least 14 -30 days after birth, but just know it is negotiable.

Other than that, you'll figure it all out just fine.

I'm a runner and don't own a Jogger. But I don't run with my baby. That said, I'm not particularly a fan of Joggers - they're heavy and huge! I don't ever see myself purchasing one. For me, lightweight is best AND something that effortlessly collapses. Lots of fancy brands out there. We have a Quinny Zapp but anything at Target for basic daily use is sufficient.

If you do have sex dont get pregnant. Your body needs a break. Also it has got to be embarrassing to have everyone know you couldnt wait even a week or two! And they will glare at your husband and blame him and feel sorry for you.

If it were me and I was having a baby shower I would ask for diapers, wipes, onesies and forget all the rest of the cute stuff.

I would have to say that the best gift my daughter got was a cloth rattle. I would put it in her clenched hand at 2 months old and she would fling it around without it hurting her and at 3 months old she noticed it. It was great. And for my son, the best gift was a bunting bag, he was 4 weeks early and always cold and the bunting bag kept him nice and warm.
