dahlia Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I'm putting this question here, mods can move it if it doesn't fit. I notice that when the missionary sisters sing, and today with the family singers, the women wear long sleeved blouses that are very saturated in color - blue, violet, fuchsia, green, etc. They don't look like blouses you'd see at the store (kinda plain), or that so many would have the same style if they were just told to go get a colored blouse. Are they part of some kind of sister uniform or choral wear? I notice because they always look so jarring compared to the elders in dark suits. I wouldn't mind the color if they all wore the same thing, but they don't. Quote
classylady Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Hmm. I've never noticed this. Now, it's going to jump out at me when I see it. :) It wouldn't be some kind of sister uniform, but it could be that the choral director asked them to wear deep colors. Don't really know for sure. Quote
NightSG Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Almost certainly an aesthetic choice based on lighting conditions and how the cameras will pick it up. A lot of thought goes into clothing for photography, so it may be a matter of someone simplifying the list of best choices to the point where it was just easier for everyone to get pretty much the same thing. Or maybe there was just a big sale at JC Penney. Quote
bytebear Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Often times, they are asked to wear pastels, or long sleeve colors or black and white. Its just a way to make everyone cohesive looking without having official outfits. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 My guess is they were just told "jewel tones, sisters". Quote
mordorbund Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Pastels are nice enough for the October conference, but in April it just reminds me that I've got my own Easter basket filled with candy calling my name. Can it wait till after the opening prayer - stay tuned! Quote
pam Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 It's very difficult to get an entire choir to look cohesive without actually special ordering a blouse for every single member of a choir. Those type of colors look better on camera. I've been in choirs (one not even LDS) that asked us to wear jewel toned, long sleeved, collared, button down blouses. It's not difficult to find that kind of a blouse in a store. That way you don't have v-necked, short sleeved, no collars on some while not having on others. It's the easiest way to make the choir look uniformed without actually having to spend a ton of money on a one time appearance. Quote
mnn727 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 If you've ever seen the Choir on TV when all the women were wearing red, they looked like heads sticking out through holes in a red curtain. Very disconcerting. I like it when they wear colors. Quote
dahlia Posted October 6, 2013 Author Report Posted October 6, 2013 I'm watching MoTab now. They are wearing fuchsia robes. It looks (to me) a lot better than multiple colors, again, this is in comparison to the guys all in dark suits. It just looks more cohesive, like a choir, rather than random women who somehow found themselves in the conference center. Quote
