marshac Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 So I just finished interviewing at a residency program in Provo- it's probably my top pick at this point. I've never been around so many LDS folks in my life- ever. A gal in our ward was trying to convey to my wife and I how.... different.... provo is compared to pretty much everywhere else in the world. She cited a and said "that's pretty much how it is." So, oh wise LDS.net users.... for those of you who have lived in Provo, what should I know about this place before I haul my whole family here? :) Quote
Roseslipper Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 It's a wonderful place to live....but in all fairness I havn't live there in 30 yrs and I am sure it has grown and changed a lot. but I loved it out there. go 4 it!!! Quote
pam Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 You will have to switch your allegiance from Gonzaga to BYU. Quote
Vort Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 Uh...wow...that sketch was...intense...I liked Provo. A lot. Loved it. I was a BYU student, of course, so that may well change my perspective. We spent six weeks in a Provo city ward, and though the people were nice, we left (read: fled) for a student married ward in short order. That might say more about us than about Provo, though. Quote
bytebear Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 Just know that you can drive up to Salt Lake when you need a change of pace. Quote
Praetorian_Brow Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 Not a fan of the downtown parking, the weird intersections and fearing for your life or waiting 10 minutes to drive across 6 lanes of traffic to cross the street.Pretty temple. Quote
classylady Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 It's been years since I lived in Provo, but I loved it. I'm still in Utah County, just further North. Utah County is also known as "Happy Valley". Some look at that nickname as a negative. I think of it as a positive. It's definitely Mormon culture here, more so than Salt Lake County. If you do move your family to the Provo area, you may not actually end up living in Provo, but may end up in one of the other communities. They're all similar with lots of LDS. You'll find inactive members and active members. It's a wonderful place to raise a family. Quote
Jane_Doe Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 I watched that skit, it's ok. After living at BYU as a student, I came away thinking the movie "The Singles Ward" encapsulates Provo the best. Granted, the movie is a little dated now (txts have replaced beepers, for example). Quote
mirkwood Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 You can always live in Salt Lake County and commute. There is no reason to switch any allegience to BYU...or Notre Dame...or Indiana U. Quote
