Backroads Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 So, if one shatters a smart phone screen to the point where it is causing splinters and insurance isn't available, is it better to replace the phone, get it fixed, or just go back to an old phone lying around? What would impact the decision? Quote
Bini Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 When I had my iPhone 4S, I shattered the glass back, and to replace it - new - only cost $40. To replace the front screen, DH suspects it would be double that. Not sure what phone you have but I'd inquire what repairs would cost. Have you asked around? Smartphones aren't cheap, especially, breaking contract. Quote
Backroads Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 Galaxy S3. It would be about $150 to fix, which right now is a lot of money to the point where I'd almost rather buy another phone. Quote

Or as a result of the fall, your phone now has other problems? Quote
Backroads Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 They are charging that just for a screen replacement? Or as a result of the fall, your phone now has other problems? That's just for your basic screen replacement. Quote
Suzie Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 That's just for your basic screen replacement.Wow! Quote
pam Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I think I'd be checking ebay or ksl classifieds for a replacement phone. Quote
applepansy Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Backroads, does your carrier have anything similar to AT&T's GoPhones? When I broken my HTC Titan I didn't have the money to replace it and it was unfixable. I bought a NOkia 510 for $100. Its been a good little phone and since it was a year newer than my HTC it does a little bit more. However, I still miss my Titan. Quote
Quin Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Just as a heads up....iPhone screen will so wit,es spiderweb crack so badly one will get splinters BUT, if you is a (dry) dish scrubber, you can knock off all the teensy splinters, and then it works just fine for all touch applications. I used one for more than a year after that trick. Even for games and such. Not sure about the glass used on other screens. It may contine to split. But iPhone glass, at least, doesn't keep speeling off shards. Q Quote
Backroads Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 Quin, thanks for the tip!The phone has been temporarily remedied by the high technology of packing tape till... whenever and whatever. Quote
slamjet Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 From what you posted on Facebook, I would suggest you stay away from smart-phones until you have that hot temper of yours under control Quote
