Sunday21 Posted May 31, 2014 Author Report Posted May 31, 2014 Up until about a month ago I ate oatmeal quite a bit. Fiber is supposed to be good for you right? Unfortunately I found out I have to maintain a very low fiber diet. So now I'm having to watch fiber content on labels.Dear Pam,Why do yo u need to avoid fiber? I think that I may have the same problem Quote
Guest Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 Dear Pam,Why do yo u need to avoid fiber? I think that I may have the same problem When your intestines are not processing food efficiently, you'll need to go on a low-fiber diet to prevent constipation or acute stomach pains. This can be a chronic problem. Also, it may just be that you need to rest your stomach for a bit before going back to normal diet. That's why periodic 24-hour Fasting is actually a very healthy thing to do. Also, when one has a gut problem - probiotics can help. And with everything... drinking plenty of plain water (take your weight in pounds, divide it by 2, and drink that many ounces of water a day) should be part of one's nutritional activities. Quote

SpiritDragon Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 My breakfast routine usually consists of putting a banana with frozen mixed berries in my vitamix with a little unsweetened almond milk and then I top it off with greens usually spinach or baby kale. I love my morning smoothies... I used to be afraid that the greens would ruin it, but they really aren't all that noticeable when you have rich colored berries to hide the green in a sea of purple. Sometimes when I don't want a smoothie for breakfast or I am missing a key ingredient I will chop an apple into chunks around 1 square centimeter each and mix them with chopped nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pecans and sometimes pumpkin and sunflower seeds. Then depending on my mood I will sprinkle this concoction with cinnamon or sliced strawberries and combine it all in one bowl with a little almond milk and eat it like cold cereal. In the colder winter months I am more inclined to eat oatmeal topped with chopped fruit such as apples or peaches, or sometimes just raisins or dates. I usually find adding nuts to this mix helps me feel like I'm getting more staying power and beneficial nutrients and taste along for the ride. Sunday21 1 Quote
Quin Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 When I'm eating eggs, I do something similar (w/o the meat). Just piping in to say that you can make a batch and eat them the next day or two, so you can make them when you are awake, but eat them when you are sleepy. My son loves breakfasty food for breakfast....I make up a huge batch of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, onions, peppers, potatoes...Then roll into tortillas or crepes & freeze. Microwave & Go. Q Sunday21 1 Quote

Guest Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 Great idea! I had no idea you could freeze eggs. It's an art-form to be able to reheat scrambled eggs. I personally don't like them - but then, it's a very quick thing to scramble eggs in my 3.5" diameter pan in the morning even with my eyes crusty shut... I've done the breakfast egg and cheese buritos and the problem isn't the eggs, it's keeping the burito from being soggy after nuking. I found this "As Seen on TV" thing which is like an oven mitt that you can use for baking potatoes in the microwave that was sold at Walmart. I used it to warm up the buritto and it worked out great! Lakumi Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 Today I had an egg salad sandwich, interestingly enough I owe my love of egg salad to the LDS church.(When I was a lad my cub scout troop, as well as many others, had the Cub Car Rally at a meetinghouse back home and they made all the food. Prior to that when my mother made egg salad she prepared it right away after the eggs boiled so it was hot and I loathed it, but they put it in the fridge overnight and it was cold. Lo and behold, a new favourite thing). Quote

When wanting to make an egg sandwich, take a few out of the fridge, peel it, and chop it up and add Honey Mustard and stuff a pita pocket with it with a bunch of greens. YUM! Quote

Sunday21 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Report Posted June 4, 2014 Oh... if you want a nice breakfast smoothie (another one of our favorite on-the-go items - although I do this for lunch for myself because, like Quin, I can't have cold things in my stomach for breakfast or I'm going to have heartburn)...half a banana, 1 kiwi, 1/2c fresh spinach, 1/2c greek yogurt, 1/2c white grape juice, 2tbsp honey to tame the spinach aftertaste, and ice cubes... whir whir whir in the blender. My kids make these for themselves for breakfast to go with whatever I'm making.Sounds great! Quote
Palerider Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 I can't drink orange juice in the morning because of heart burn......have to mix it with apple juice Quote
Guest Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 I can't drink orange juice in the morning because of heart burn......have to mix it with apple juice I can't drink orange juice at all... or apple juice. Both give me heartburn. When we travel, the hotel usually has 3 choices - orange juice, apple juice, or dairy milk. Not counting water. I'm allergic to cow's milk. So, I take 1:8 orange juice and water. My husband used to look at me like he just saw a Martian. He's used to it now... Quote
Quin Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 Piping in....Mmmmmm. Gyoza for breakfast this morning. Q Quote

Guest Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 We were late today so we had a super quick fix breakfast... Sliced bread, roast beef, turkey pastrami, american sliced cheese, and baby kale on the george foreman and then wrapped in paper towel and stuck onto tupperware. Hot chocolate from the hot choc maker put in covered foam cups. Throw hot choc maker in the sink with water and leave george foreman to clean up later. Out the door and eat in the car. Whew! You need carbs - going zero-carbs is not good for ya - so load up on carbs in the morning so you burn it off throughout the day... no carbs starting the afternoon all the way through the morning. classylady Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 Once, when I requested orange juice on a flight, the flight attendant asked me if I had ever tried mixing orange juice with apple juice. He then mixed it for me, and I was actually very pleased with the result. Palerider 1 Quote
classylady Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 Confession time: For breakfast my kids usually had cold cereal with milk. They would often have it for lunch, snacks, and dinner too. And, I let them. On days when I did not have the energy to fix anything, I was grateful they could fix themselves a bowl of cereal rather than go without. Now that I have confessed, I also want to add that I do not feel a lot of guilt over this--some, but not a lot. Sunday21 and pam 2 Quote
