Isaac,

I would hope you would have learned this by now:

Feminists (Mormon or otherwise) do not have a sense of humor, except for a cruel one. That is why Gaia and others take off-the-cuff statements that are meant to be light hearted and become shreiking harpies.

It gets back to taking one quote by one man while he was talking to his neighbor's cattle and then basing their testimony and attitude on that...

Pam,

I love your posts too!

what exactly is an Athiest Priestess?

A figment of Annabelli's imagination

She went to an atheist website and came back and accused me of being part of an atheist priesthood who's goal was to destroy Christianity and Jesus Christ.

I am an atheist, but have neer been to this website or have any part with this priesthood she's speaking of. She said she could tell I was one of them because of my posting style.

It was all bizarre and ludicrous. As a joke I put "Athiest Priestess" in my "religion." However, I now realize that very few people are in on the joke, and therefore won't understand it. So I am now going to remove the 'Priestess." part.

And here is the underlying problem, isn't it? Women are superior to men, or at least I hear this crap rolled out every once in a while. 'If men had to give birth, the species would have died off' like women have done something so wonderful that only they can do. Give me a flippin' break! As for tolerating pain: men, how often have you cut yourself badly while working on the car, playing a sport, working on the house, etc., sucked on it a little so that you wouldn't get blood everywhere and then gone on with what you were doing? How many women can do that? I have 3 girls, all of whom I did the 'manly' things with, and they were out of commission. Period. So don't throw that old feminist crap out as if it were fact. Because it ain't.

As for multi-tasking, yes, men do a wonderful job of that. We are forced to in our jobs.

Sixpack? Hermano? Where is this coming from? The line about women being stronger than men, better than men, etc. is NOT based in feminism. Rather, it is male humility that says: you women generally do what you do better than we men would. Kudos to you. Good looking out. Keep up the good work! Bravo!

BTW, I really hope manhood is not defined the way you do here. I do not work on cars, am not much into sports, and am about half-a-level above screwing in light bulbs (as far as working on the house). I help out, take out the garbage, mow the lawn, etc., but do not need to spend frustrating hours working on that for which I have little aptitude.

Most women are better at multi-tasking then men, most women handle the pains of child-rearing and bearing better than men, and most women, in many ways, do excel men. But, all that is not said by way of competition, but rather offering well-earned honor.

We should honor one another in all that we do, and be far less concerned about "well-defined gender roles."

PC,

I have absolutely no problem with saying that there are things my wife does better than I do. And there are things that I do much better than my wife. That is why we make a really good team, because we complement each other. Just ask our kids!

But my retort you posted was in answer to the old crap about if men had to have the kids, the species would have died out, etc. It gets back to the belief by some women that men just force themselves on their wives, that they want to keep them barefoot and pregnant. My wife and I wanted every one of our kids, and all of the ones that were miscarried. And if roles had been reversed (that I was the one that was getting pregnant) that wouldn't have changed.

As for multi-tasking, again, I'm not so sure that women are that much better than men. Yes, they bear the brunt of taking care of the little ones, in that they are with them all day (as it should be, IMO, instead of letting someone else raise your child), but in my work I have to be able to juggle many balls at one time during any given day, and do so competently, or else I'm looking for another job. And I'd wager it is that way for most men...

Just FYI...I married up. My wife keeps me on the straight path. I hope that I do the same for her, but I know that she is doing that for me. FWIW...

... most women handle the pains of child-rearing and bearing better than men,

Yep, PC is right...when I gave birth to my last child, I totally sucked at it, screamed bloody murder...woke up half the hospital and ruptured my doctors eardrum...My wife did so much better "bearing" our kids than I did...

I agree with you. I think what you describe are insulting stereotypes. They are your children, and if you love them, you will take care of them. Period.

I am a feminist - so too my mother and four sisters.

I may not be too funny but I do have a sense of humor.

The line about women being stronger than men, better than men, etc. is NOT based in feminism.

In some cases it is. Can't make a sweeping statement like that with validity. Sorry.

Rather, it is male humility that says: you women generally do what you do better than we men would. Kudos to you. Good looking out. Keep up the good work! Bravo!

DANG! Someone's whipped! :whip: (kidding...or am I? bwahahahahaha)

Most women are better at multi-tasking then men, most women handle the pains of child-rearing and bearing better than men, and most women, in many ways, do excel men.

That's pretty subjective. I disagree that "most" women fit all your descriptions. In fact most women I've met have been rather silly (I'm talking my age group, 20-30 years old).

But, all that is not said by way of competition, but rather offering well-earned honor.

If only all women were as you describe.

We should honor one another in all that we do, and be far less concerned about "well-defined gender roles."

Motherhood is pretty much a role defined by gender. Ever notice how guys just can't gestate like women can? I think that was six's point: there are roles specific to our gender and because of our gender.

Hahaha, this is fun. I usually don't disagree with you PC but I gotta' cross swords once in awhile. B)

I believe these threads have run their due course here at LDS Talk and need to be closed.

I also believe that most of our Priesthood Leadership are very good men who strive to do their service according to the ways of the Lord. Having the Priesthood and being in a leadership position does not mean that they are perfect it simply means that they have been chosen to lead and direct. Being a woman and having the ability to carry and raise children does not mean that we will do our jobs perfectly either. Trust in the Lord that if something doesn't go perfectly that HE will be there to buoy us up and pick up the slack. In order for the Lord to help us we need to first humble ourselves before HIM and ask.

If we have been wronged in someway we need to learn to forgive. If we have wronged another we need to seek forgiveness. Life is not made entirely of absolutes, so we need to trust in the Lord to be there. I want to be held to the same measuring stick of forgiveness that I offer the person who has wronged me. After we have done everything we can to seek forgiveness it is up to that person to forgive. If someone has wronged us and they happen to serve in a leadership position we need to trust in the Lord to be there and provide a way for us to be made whole. It is not our position to bring that person or the church down just as one mother makes a mistake in raising her child doesn’t mean that all who are mothers are at fault. Trust in the Lord, for he can see the eternal picture. Forgive those who have harmed you and move forward. Only pain and heartache will come from holding onto to something that we cannot control. There is a sweet peace that will come into our lives if we forgive and let the Lord be the judge.
