Smallfootsteps Posted March 13, 2017 Report Posted March 13, 2017 Someone on here mentioned a worthiness interview but I don't know what this is. Can anyone explain what it is please? Worthy for what? Quote
estradling75 Posted March 13, 2017 Report Posted March 13, 2017 9 times out of 10 when someone talks about a worthiness interview... they mean temple recommend interview. Realistically any time your bishop(or other church leaders) calls you in to talk to you that could be a worthiness interview, because that is a subject that could come up, (more so if the are considering you for a new calling). Still the safe bet is that they meant temple recommend interview. Quote
anatess2 Posted March 13, 2017 Report Posted March 13, 2017 They might also be talking about baptismal interview. That interview with the bishop to determine if you are ready for baptism. Quote
Jane_Doe Posted March 13, 2017 Report Posted March 13, 2017 When someone comes to the Lord to make covenants with Him, we try our best to prepare that person for those covenants-- obviously it'd be bad is a person didn't even know what those covenants were or weren't ready for them! The bulk of being ready lies on that person's desire to make those covenants and follow through with them (this is rooted in testimony). Still, members of the church can help out by teaching, talking over strengths/concerns etc. When a person desires to make these covenants, they meet with the bishop beforehand and chat. The goal here is: 1) Give the person the opportunity to ask the bishop directly and concerns/questions 2) Establish that the person is ready to make those new convents: that they know what they are, and am in a state to (hopefully) carry through with them. If the person is not in that state, the Bishop then helps them figure out how to get into that state first, before making covenants they don't understand/aren't ready for. A couple of examples: --- Someone who doesn't understand what a covenant is. Solution: teach that. --- Someone who struggles with a testimony of know whether Jesus is the Christ. Solution: focus on strengthening that foundation first. --- Someone who's about to make a covenant to keep the law of chastity but sleeps with their boyfriend every night. Solution: get your own apartment and quit sleeping with him. --- Someone who is keeping their existent covenants, knows what the next covenants are, and is ready to keep them. Solution: celebrate! Partake of those new covenants and deeper bond with Christ. Quote
Anddenex Posted March 13, 2017 Report Posted March 13, 2017 Worthiness interviews are interviews accomplished by a bishop or stake president to determine if a person is worthy (are they keeping covenants or commandments) for baptism, advancement in the priesthood, or temple attendance. Quote
zil Posted March 13, 2017 Report Posted March 13, 2017 That was me who mentioned worthiness interviews. My understanding is as has been said here: baptism, advancement in the priesthood, temple recommend, and at least some callings (though it seems this last one varies more depending on the person extending the calling). bytebear Posted March 14, 2017 Report Posted March 14, 2017 Convert baptism interviews are done by missionary leaders (District and Zone leaders). They have a set of guidelines, and specific questions to understand if the potential convert is prepared for baptism or if they need to hold off a bit to understand the principles and requirements. You can read the whole process here.https://www.lds.org/manual/preach-my-gospel-a-guide-to-missionary-service/how-do-i-prepare-people-for-baptism-and-confirmation?lang=eng Anddenex 1 Quote

Maybe it is different if you're married to a member. Edited March 14, 2017 by anatess2 Quote
