Can some of you BSA gurus weigh in on this (didn't @Backroads work for the BSA)? @Darroll casey is saying he's not only barred from serving in scouts, but from attending any meetings. I know there's BSA policies on who holds positions, but are there restrictions on who attends pack meetings? Darroll, is this coming from BSA or from the charter organization?

Yes, there are restrictions to who attends pack meetings.  Supposedly, only registered scouts and leaders and their parents/family and other volunteer people (such as Firemen, LEO's etc that do presentations) can attend.  You can kick somebody out of a pack meeting who are not these guys, felony conviction or not.  But the Charter Organization - especially Church ones - may invite the entire Church to these events.

If you have a felony, you can't attend any scout activity unless you're a parent.  You can be a volunteer leader with a felony if the charter organization goes to bat to get your registration approved by the BSA.  But, if you have a conviction that involves children - e.g., dealing drugs to minors, child pornography, pedophilia, etc. - it's highly unlikely BSA will approve the registration even if the Charter goes to bat.

I'd ask for official documentation, but I've tried navigating official BSA sites in the past.

So, have you had a cub scout position for the past 2 and a half years?  If so, it is a little odd that it would suddenly happen now.  Normally, a background check is done on the first application and then after that they have the volunteer history for you.  It seems odd that you would pass it the first time around and then suddenly fail it the second time around.

Did someone have an ax to grind with you or something as this seems very out of the ordinary?  If this happened, then that's life I suppose and that's what happens.  You can still be an involved parent with the cub scouts however...so, that's something that is still good.

Not 2 1/2 years. The first 2 years I only helped the den leader out. He had an assistant. Most parents just drop their boys off and leave. So I helped out when needed. Well the assistant moved away and the leader asked if I wanted to be the assistant so when he can' make it. I could run the meetings.

My conviction was due to be being set up. I never sold to anyone not of age. My conviction is only possesson with intent to deliver. And yes I have two sons that are in scouts.

I believe he is still able to attend meetings.

I am not. I even have the backing of the cub master and the other leaders. I am in the mist of writing an appeal. With letters from all the people that are supporting me.

Again, how in the crap did you do 7 years for not even selling drugs?   Long list of priors?  Were you the head guy they finally found something on?  Did you have like a semi trailer full of it or something?  "I was set up" doesn't explain it.

I was set up by my cousin. I sold to her she got busted and then snitched me out. But they caught me in a car and she was driving. So they know it was mine and that was my first and only offense. After prison I went to a treatment place for 6 months graduated and even spent 1 1/2 years in a sober clean house.

Then you should be good with attending pack meetings and the like.  You need to have a sit down with your scoutmaster and hash this out with the council.

Ok, this might be because it's Cub Scouts and not Boy Scouts.

I was thinking about this on Thanksgiving. We had a friend who posted some Scout stuff on FB. Are the Scouts really in a position to kick someone out? You've got a guy who wants to help them. At this point it would be like Sears turning away someone who actually wants to shop there

DOH!
