Sunday21 Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Advice for marking furniture, pictures. Hi smart people! i am arranging a move for an elderly person. Some of the elderly person’s belongings will go to one child, some to a second child and some to a third. How do we mark the items so that the movers know how to sort the load? Many thanks! Quote

Hello, Sunday21! Is there anyway you could use electrical or masking tape as labels, writing on them with sharpies? If you’re willing to buy new materials, gaffer tape supposedly won’t leave a residue, and a silver or gold metallic sharpie should show up on it! That way the labels will be clear without damaging the furniture when you take them off later. Sunday21 1 Quote

zil Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 (edited) If you're going to use tape, use painter's or gaffer's - definitely not electrical (will leave a nasty residue), masking is not much better than electrical. Alternately, different colors of yarn tied on (assuming there is a way to tie (or otherwise attach) the yarn). This may be cheaper than multiple colors of tape (though I haven't priced yarn (ever, I think)). Having different colors is quicker and easier, IMO, then using names / text / shapes. Iggy Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 If the elderly person will be out of the home long enough for you and some workers to move the items into separate rooms, and also mark them with largish colored stickers w/child's name on it. I was one of six helpers to do this when a Sister in my branch had to do this for a recently deceased Visiting Teachee of hers who had named her as Executrix of her small estate. Her home was small and at first glance it appeared she was a horder. Then when we got really close look at everything, they were antiques - and LOTS of them. She had 4 children - so we rearranged the furniture, linens, dishes, and jewelry into rooms designated for each child. She even had willed the drapes! What a job!!! Of course as RS Sisters, we also washed & dusted as we separated!! Sunday21 1 Quote
