Still_Small_Voice Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 Arkansas Hunter Dies After Being Gored by Deer He Thought He Shot and Killed 20 October 2019 An experienced Arkansas hunter was found severely injured in the woods Tuesday night, his body riddled with antler puncture wounds. He later died. The 66-year-old man from Yellville, Arkansas, had shot a deer, and made plans with his nephew to field-dress the deer’s body together, police told CNN. When his nephew found him, the seriously injured man was alert and talking, and was even able to call his wife. But he stopped breathing by the time paramedics could get him to the hospital, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said. Officials are not certain that the antler wounds are the official cause of his death, the commission said in a statement. He may have died from other medical issues such as a heart attack, the statement said, but there will be no autopsy. Injuries resulting from wounded deer are not uncommon, said Corporal Joe Dale Purdom from the Game and Fish Commission. Still_Small_Voice Posted October 24, 2019 Author Report Posted October 24, 2019 If you hunt be careful out there. What a horrible way to die in my opinion. I feel sorry for the man. Quote
Traveler Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 It is not uncommon for animals to attack when threatened - even pets. In my youth I read a study that there are more (about 10 to 1) ratio of pets that cause death or injury during a crisis (fire, flood, accident, earth quake or whatever) than those that help save their masters. I was automating a slaughter facility and a bullvine jumped a 8 foot fence, ran into a shopping parking lot and was shot by authorities in front of a grocery store. The FDA requires that cattle are knocked out and then bleed out while unconscious or the carcass must be discarded. Most hunters know that it is not good for your kill to fill itself with adrenaline in death - it makes the meat very gamy. The Traveler Quote
Jamie123 Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 Hunting by its nature has an element of risk to it. (If you want a risk-free way of getting meat then you can buy it at the supermarket.) If hunting were risk-free then it wouldn't be seen as such a manly thing to do; something more akin to pond fishing. The man went out to pit his skill against the deer's and on this occasion the deer won. How many times has the result gone the other way? Quote
askandanswer Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 I'm reminded of hymn 221 - Deer to the Heart of the ........hunter. Quote

It appears that the Dogs will be going off for Gators a little later (got my dates mixed up...darn)...but Gator's tend to fight back hard. We've lost multiple times, but soon...soon I have a good feeling we'll get a Gator or two...(Nov. 2) [This is a football post for those who are curious, and gameday is the day where me and MormonGator are on opposite sides of the Field...or so I think...he may have converted to Red...] PS: Yes, I know it's not on topic, but the above post had a great lead in for gameday. Unfortunately we did lose to SC...so there's that. Florida I think has lost to Michigan and LSU, but I think they are currently higher ranked. It's all due to that Georgia/SC game I think... We're only 4-1 this year. LSU beat us, but honestly, I think the Bulldogs will beat us too. You guys have a great team and more than that, I bet your boys are still really angry about losing to South Carolina, who we beat. I think Georgia is actually a little underrated this year. Quote

Thanks...and to be honest I actually do tune in to Florida games as well when able (It's like Georgia Tech, I actually cheer for many of the teams UGA plays...as long as they are playing others. UGA is the one I'm a fan of, but I enjoy watching football overall and normally would rather cheer from someone more local than others) and it's on the tube. I'm thinking the game this year (or hoping) will be epic. Edited October 27, 2019 by JohnsonJones clarity Quote
