askandanswer Posted October 31, 2023 Report Posted October 31, 2023 (edited) I was listening to Elder Bednar's talk yesterday. Do you think he might have had in mind while writing the talk, that the members of the church today are figuratively in the last wagon that is on its way to Zion, and that after us, all who will be gathered will be safely gathered in? zil2 Posted October 31, 2023 Report Posted October 31, 2023 Interesting theory. I have no idea, but... 1 hour ago, askandanswer said: figuratively in the last wagon that is on its way to Zion ...this would mean we're figuratively eating a lot of dust, and that doesn't sound wrong... Quote

If so I hope it's not the Martin or Willey handcart companies. But having said that, it would actually make sense. Is there an option of just coming later on a train? Quote

That thought crossed my mind also, especially in terms of the newest places where the restored gospel is being established in the earth (e.g. Africa, Asia, including the more remote isles of the sea). The primary thrust of his speech was to emphasize how important every member of the Church is regardless of what calling we have. Sometimes, there is this idea that some people have a more "prestigious" calling. He was trying to say how every single calling is important. And he just wanted to take a moment to praise those individuals who have what some might consider a less glamorous calling, but who are nevertheless serving with their might. I brought up an elderly brother who just moved into the ward a couple of months ago. And not a lot of people know who he is yet. But he comes to help clean the church every time it is his rotation. He gives rides to church to some individuals who cannot otherwise make it on their own. He participates in setting up and cleaning up all the activities. And my soul loves him. He is "no less serviceable" than the bishop or EQ pres or RS pres. He's serving the Lord with all his might. zil2, Anddenex and askandanswer 3 Quote
