Traveler Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 There has been a discussion about the military that I feel I should add to. I believe my opinion is much in line with captain Moroni. That the military of a free people has a basis of liberty and reflects the attitude of its citizens. I believe to be free a person must, out of responsibility and obligation – be prepared (out of strong desire to be free) to serve in the military. I believe the most effective and dangerous military is made up of free individuals that love their freedom more than their life (just like the song). Free people do not ever leave such things to others. I do not believe in the draft or a voluntary (mercenary) for the military. I believe military service is mandatory to freedom – that any desire to not serve is because love of liberty and country are missing from such citizens. I believe we have raised a generation of privilege selfish individual’s incapable of preserving liberty and freedom. I do not know how this happened – not even my children nor grandchildren desire to preserve freedom through military service. Even as I talk to the youth in the church – I see no propensity towards serving in the military with purpose. It is not worth their effort. Not for pay, going to college without debt or any other compensation – we have a generation that does not believe (with very few exceptions). Perhaps they have come to the conclusion that the government (both officials and citizens) care less about freedoms and liberty than they do??? The Traveler Quote
