Dude, that's sooo 1970's. I was a child in the 1970s, 7 to 17 years old. Looking back, I think if school administrators had taken a much harder line against student activism such as protests and sit-ins and had been willing to actually arrest, prosecute, and expel students whose protests crossed legal lines or infringed on free speech rights, we would probably not find ourselves in the position we are in today. NeuroTypical Posted May 1, 2024 Report Posted May 1, 2024 College can be a great place. Where kids become adults, and go through a process wherein their sheltered world views, based on half-formed emotion-based ideologies and zealous ignorance, begin to crash into various harsh walls of various realities. I'm a massive fan of free speech, 1st amendment protections, and angry people getting together and yelling and protesting. Cross the line into vandalism, occupying private buildings, destruction of property, and singling out a certain demographic for abuse/violence/harassment, and you lose my support pretty quickly. Happy to see college students learning about reality, engaging in debates, protesters encountering counter-protesters. Happy to see so much WWII history getting dug up and talked about again. Yes, there's a reason why most of the entire world was supportive and helpful when Great Britain and the allied nations fought/killed/bombed/burned it's way through civilian populations in order to end the nazi threat by making it so there were no more nazis. I'm glad to hear of arrests, suspensions, possible expulsions, for the idiots who take their ignorant entitlements too far. Jamie123, LDSGator, JohnsonJones and 1 other 4 Quote

Dude, that's sooo 1970's. Except, in the Vietnam War era there was a REAL chance for those kids to get sent to the very War they were protesting. The thing they are protesting now has no chance of getting them drafted and sent to it's front lines. What's crazier is that the ones they are trying to protest for would kill many of them without a second thought as those students stand for everything many of the Muslims in the Gaza Strip are against. The Palestinians there are also not against corporeal punishment, including killing those they feel are LGBT or do not fit the mold of what they feel is living correctly. It's great irony that the students (and the imposters on the campus which in some instances outnumber the actual students there) are protesting for the very people that are far more conservative than almost all our most conservative individuals in the US, and are trying to call for aid to those who would kill those very students if given a chance (or worse, death sometimes is preferable to what they do to those they hate). I can understand the concern over some of the things Israel is doing (and I would probably say there are definitely war crimes occurring from Israel, but that I would lay on the heads of those who are their leaders rather than on Israel itself), but going as far as to protest in favor of a group of people that are the epitome against of everything you are and hate your existence so that they would probably try to kill you for it if they were able to...that one makes me a little more questioning on how much these kids actually know about the Palestinians in Gaza Strip...or at least how much they understand about Hamas and what it does and how it operates. NeuroTypical Posted May 2, 2024 Report Posted May 2, 2024 Important thing to understand: The protests started out as students protesting, they've recently evolved into something else. Folks with agendas are now sending agitators in to these protests and turning them into something the student's didn't necessarily want. Students being students, I'm sure some of 'em are too immature and inexperienced to realize they're being radicalized into violent mobs. WSJ: Hundreds of Protesters Arrested as Universities Blame Outsiders for Escalating Violence Quote New York University’s president said of 133 people arrested there on April 22, 68 weren’t current students, faculty, or staff. Tulane said the overwhelming majority of the protesters were outsiders. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said outside agitators were co-opting the protest movement at Columbia. The University of Texas at Austin said 45 of the 79 people arrested on campus on Monday weren’t associated with the school. https://www.nationalreview.com/news/police-intervene-at-ucla-after-violent-clashes-between-anti-israel-protesters-counter-protesters/ Quote The encampment started on Royce Quad, and footage emerged of the protesters beating a Jewish girl unconscious, resulting in a concussion. Footage of a separate incident appeared to show protesters holding a Jewish student against his will on Tuesday and preventing him from leaving the encampment. UCLA protesters on Monday also seemed to prevent a Jewish student from going to class by lining up and preventing the student from accessing the main entrance to his lecture hall. Quote
