When you think about, those movies are morally repulsive. It’s fun and cool to pretend to be Punisher but vigilante justice always creates more misery for everyone-including the vigilante.

That's actually what they looked at in the Bruce Willis remake, with a scene where a copycat is gunned down and the media noting that the copycat was a father.

One of the final scenes in the movie is a radio DJ who was critical of the "Grim Reaper" noting the lack of vigilante killings and begging Willis' character to remain wherever he was hunkered down for everyone's sake.

I’ve never seen the originals with Charles Bronson nor have I seen the remakes. I sleep very well at night knowing that I’ve missed those landmarks of film history.

I volunteer to be in Heretic 2 as a senior missionary.  You know, the retired cop who is still authorized to carry a gun nation wide.  Yeah...short movie...like maybe a reel.  :)

If I remember Horror tropes...that would be a terrible position to be in.

Isn't it always that the teens call the police or something, the cop comes, and then as they search around trying to figure why they were called, they get gutted by the big horrible monster or something?

The Cops always die in these types of movies...and most of the teenagers too if I recall the trope...with only one or two that somehow miraculously destroy the monster before they are killed themselves.

Isn't that how it normally goes?

(note: I've never actually watched these movies, so I can't be positive that this is how it works, but I think I've seen a parody or two that makes fun of it).

Pretty much accurate. The old joke is that minorities and cops usually have a hard time in horror movies.

I run in some horror circles and this movie is booming. People call it one of the best horror movies of the last few years.

You have nothing to fear, JJ (or so I assume)....  The first one to die is always the blond bimbo with too much cleavage showing.

And I think @mirkwood has nothing to fear.  The thing all horror movie characters have in common is that they act like people who've never rubbed two brain cells together.  I've actually observed @mirkwood speaking intelligently, walking about, driving a vehicle without smashing it into things...  Pretty sure he's smarter than all the horror movie victims added together. ;)
