Carborendum Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Well, I certainly didn't have this on my bingo card. Greenland could actually become a US territory. Apparently, the Prime Minister of Greenland (currently a Danish territory) wants to talk to Trump. And the citizens are now discussing the possibility as a reality. We don't yet have numbers of those for or against. But part of their agreement with Denmark allows them to become independent if they have a vote in favor of it. No military action. No trade wars. Just political maneuvering and possibly some concessions for the territory itself... This could be a reality, folks. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and Greenland? Why not. As the planet warms, all eyes turn to Greenland. And rule #1 in geopolitics is either be the strongest guy, or be buddies with the strongest guy. And let's not forget: Carborendum and Vort 1 1 Quote

Apparently, he thinks that nations make more money in trade and have better joint security as independent partners than they would if, you know, they didn't have the tariffs and differing laws and stuff. Just_A_Guy Posted January 15 Report Posted January 15 (edited) Statehood for Canada and Greenland would mean four more Dem seats in the Senate, and half a dozen reliably blue votes in the electoral college. Probably more; since I can’t possibly visualize Candy agreeing to be *only one* state. I don’t think it’s right to deprive Canadians or Greenlanders of the right to take part in electing their national government; and I frankly don’t want either culture having a say in *my* elected national government. That would require that the planet warm up to what we had 600-700 years ago. But we can keep rooting for global warming. Wait... NeuroTypical 1 Quote
