Bluestar Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 December 21, 2012 AD, the last day on the aztec calendar. I have no idea when it might actually occur. My husband was promised children and I told him to give me 5-10 years, so that blows my 2012 idea out. I think it will be a number of years from now, maybe 20+ years just to start with. I was rather curious about this as they always talk about it in church and nothing is ever specifically covered other than what to do to prepare for it. Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 I concur. Noting if 1987 was the year of this child prophet, then it would not be feesible for 2012, or noting there is no temple built in Jerusalem as this time. Perhaps, something on the order when the spirit begins to withdraw itself from the world. HUMOR Quote
Teancum18 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 As President Benson recited Elder Featherstone Manti Temple speech [1987], the boy prophet is now living on this earth. So that was in reference to the prophet who would hold that mantle at the time of Christ's second coming?? Depending on age, 2012 might be too soon. But a short season after that would be... say 30-50 years. Quote
Teancum18 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I worry not about these things. I continue to do the things I am supposed to do on a daily basis and whenever the time comes I will be ready. This is more so the point I am trying to make when I throw out a year like 2411. Obviously, I couldn't possibly know when it's going to be. I am just trying to say that it may not be in our lifetime, and that we shouldn't lose faith if it isn't. Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 That would be my assumption. When this boy reigns, there is another prophet that is briefly spoken of in the last 12 minor books of the OT, which will reign before or when the Savior returns. His reign will be over Israel, and his name will be David. I suspect this prophet will have mixed blood of the House of David and House of Joseph. Sad part? He will receive by reward half of King David glory. Quote
Guest ADOZ Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I wanted to share with all of you something that I have read in Doctrines of Salvation volume 3 page 2.Jesus Christ, Second Coming -Smith, Joseph Fielding"SOME NOW LIVING MAY SEE SECOND COMING. The day of the coming of the Lord is near. I do not know when. I am not looking, however, upon the coming of the Son of Man as I looked once upon the day when men would speak from city to city and throughout the land without the aid of wires, and would be heard-as something that may come in some far distant time-because I sincerely believe it will come in the very day when some of us who are here today [April 5, 1936] will be living upon the face of the earth. That day is close at hand.Jesus Christ, Second Coming -Smith, Joseph Fielding "It behooves us as Latter-day Saints to set our houses in order, to keep the commandments of God, to turn from evil to righteousness, if it is necessary, and serve the Lord in humility and faith and prayer. 8And this one also in the book Coming of the Lord by Gerald N. Lund chapter nineIn both of the general conferences in 1916, Elder James E. Talmage warned against trying to water down the prophecies concerning the ten tribes by interpreting them figuratively. In April conference he said:There is a tendency among men to explain away what they don't wish to understand in literal simplicity, and we, as Latter-day Saints are not entirely free from the taint of that tendency .... Some people say that prediction is to be explained in this way: A gathering is in progress, and has been in progress from the early days of this Church; and thus the "Lost Tribes" are now being gathered; but that we are not to look for the return of any body of people now unknown as to their whereabouts. True, the gathering is in progress, this is a gathering dispensation; but the prophecy stands that the tribes shall be brought forth from their hiding place bringing their scriptures with them, which scriptures shall become one with the scriptures of the Jews, the holy Bible, and with the scriptures of the Nephites, the Book of Mormon, and with the scriptures of the Latter-day Saints as embodied in the volumes of modern revelation. 44In the October conference Elder Talmage added a startling and marvelous promise:The tribes shall come; they are not lost unto the Lord; they shall be brought forth as hath been predicted; and I say unto you, there are those now living-aye, some here present-who shall live to read the records of the Lost Tribes of Israel, which shall be made one with the record of the Jews, or the Holy Bible, and the record of the Nephites, or the Book of Mormon, even as the Lord hath predicted. 45I will share a small portion of my PB, it tells me that I will be here for the second coming. Now, another great book to read is Prophesies and modern times byCleon Skousen.I am sorry Teancum18, I believe that the events leading up to the second coming have already started and the second coming is at the door ...knocking evenHere is what President Hinckley said :The era in which we live is the fulness of times spoken of in the scriptures, when God has brought together all of the elements of previous dispensations. From the day that He and His Beloved Son manifested themselves to the boy Joseph, there has been a tremendous cascade of enlightenment poured out upon the world. The hearts of men have turned to their fathers in fulfillment of the words of Malachi. The vision of Joel has been fulfilled wherein he declared:“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:“And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.“And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call” (Joel 2:28–32).O hope to not offend anyone with my post, I just wanted to share important information regarding the second coming. Now is the time to prepare.Marie Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Ok, something that has always bugged me...if I go north to the Artic, where is the Lost Tribe? Are they north of Israel when they left - meaning in Europe? Unlikely since John is their prophet. Quote
Carita Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Well said. There are many signs that need to still happen and why do we hear the same things and are asked to do the same things every conference? Because we are not yet doing them and living as we should. Someone, not a member of our church and who didn't think our prophet is a real prophet, asked me once:" So, tell me one thing your prophet has said we haven't heard yet. That we don't already know?" Well, I wrote back :"A Proclamation To the World" and if that is not good enough.. why would our Heavenly Father give us new things when we are not even doing the ones He has already asked us to do?" I think he was expecting something more sensational. I sometimes worry about my children and their future. Then I feel calm and comforted when I remember that we have been promised we will be OK if we live the gospel faithfully. It might not be easy and we might have to go through some hard times but we will be OK at the end.. Quote
pam Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Forget about the speculations as to when this will occurr. Let's say just for sayings sake....the last day was tomorrow. Would you be ready? Quote
lilered Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 Thx. to everyone for all their input into this interesting thread. Two other latter day events that must take place that I don't believe has been previously mentioned is the building of a Temple in Jerusalem President Wilford Woodruff said: “… Christ will not come until these things come to pass. Jerusalem has got to be rebuilt. The temple has got to be built. “… These things have been revealed by the prophets; they will have their fulfillment.” (MS, vol. 52 [Oct. 6, 1890], p. 740.) And Joseph Smith said: “What was the object of gathering the Jews, or the people of God in any age of the world? … The main object was to build unto the Lord a house whereby He could reveal unto His people the ordinances of His house. …” (DHC, vol. 5, p. 423.) Nor The Two Prophets (Specifically to the Jewish Nation) Two prophets are to be raised up to the Jewish nation. Joseph Smith has explained the following concerning the two prophets who are mentioned in Revelation 11:2–3, 6–12 [Rev. 11:2–3, 6–12]: “Q. What is to be understood by the two witnesses, in the eleventh chapter of Revelation? [And the Lord answered:] “A. They are two prophets that are to be raised up to the Jewish nation in the last days, at the time of the restoration, and to prophesy to the Jews after they are gathered and have built the city of Jerusalem in the land of their fathers.” (D&C 77:15.) Orson Pratt has said the following concerning the role of these prophets: “We might bring up, also, the declaration of John in relation to the two witnesses who are to prophecy about that period. They are to prophecy three and a half years, and their field of labor will be Jerusalem, after it shall have been rebuilt by the Jews. By means of their prophecies and the power of God attending them, the nations who are gathered together against Jerusalem will be kept at bay, these Prophets will hold them in check by their faith and power. By and by these nations overcome the two witnesses and, having finished their mission, they are slain, and their bodies will lie three days and a half in the streets of the city. Then a great earthquake will take place, and these two witnesses will be caught up to heaven.” (JD, vol. 16, p. 329. Italics added.) For a thrilling detailed insight into what is going to take place concerning this, one should read the entire eleventh chapter of the Book of Revelation. Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I believe all these signs will precede Christ's return to the earth to reign as King: Missionaries sent to every nation kindred tongue and people. The rise of the anti-Christ.The war siege of Jerusalem.Separation of Zion and Babylon.Disease, famine, pestilence and war that wipe out one third of the people of this world. Christ visits Adam-ondi-Ahman Quote
Guest Leeanntheone Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 One of the last signs of the second coming of Christ will be a blood red moon. Read Revelation chapeter 6, verse 12. Now Goggle blood red moons and see what shows up in the year 2015.In my opinion.Leeann;) Quote
Guest User-Removed Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 There's a great scene in Schindler's List. It occurs at the end of the movie, when it is clear the Nazi's have lost. A soldier rides through the camp and tells the jews to go west towards the Yanks and not east towards the Soviets. All realize that Oskar Schindler must flee to the safety of the American Zone. The sit down and preceed to draft the list of names of those jews that Schindler saved. As they pack him in his car, and hand him the list, he breaks down sobbing..."I could have done more...I should have done more" The day will come, when the war in this world will end. There will be no more Satan or his minions to contend with. When that day comes...How many of us will sob..."I could have done more...I should have done more"... Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 I say that everyday - "I wish I could do more....I wish I had done more... Quote
