Moksha Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 And is it just one apartment or the entire building? The entire Eaglegate Apartments is owned by the Deseret Managent Corp. (Church), which includes the 24,000 foot top apartment. Quote

If it is just the top apartment, that works out to $83 per sq foot. Not a bad or unjust price if it is the purchase price. Quote
Snow Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 The Apostles and the Prophet do not get paid. It is a well known fact that most of them were well renowned professionals in their time, since called to the Apostleship retired. Some of the GA's, for example, were previously employed in the organizational arm of the Church which is sustained by the countless business concerns the Church operate/manages under the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop. There are mining operations, transportation outfits, port facilities, gas and oil leases, granite and construction material operations, farming among others. I personally know a member of the first Q of the Seventy and he is a SEC financial auditor. He is 57 and a few years short of retirement himself.Apparently you aren't all that close of a friend with the member of Seventy.Full-time ecclesiastical leaders to in fact get paid:"Because the Church has no professional clergy, it is administered at every level through LAY PARTICIPATION AND LEADERSHIP, and officials other than the General Authorities contribute their time and talents without remuneration. ...Because the General Authorities are obliged to leave their regular employment for full-time Church service, they receive a modest living allowance provided from income on Church investments." (Encyclopedia of Mormonism p. 510)Call it a salary, remuneration or a stipend, but General Authorities are paid. Many of them have been full time Church employees their whole adult lives and have never made the kind of money one would need to retire on and be a GA for 30 more years. Seventies don't bring home much, and certainly are living large but the Twelve are stipend-ed more and the President even more. They certainly don't earn the kind of money that they could earn in the private sector but they bring home enough to support their (often large) families in a comfortable lifestyle.Beyond that the president is also supplied with a home. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Aug. 27, 1994, p. E1, the president of the LDS Church lives in a "downtown condominium, the official residence of church presidents." Salt Lake Tribune, Dec. 8, 1988: "The $1.2 million condominium at 40 N. State that is home to the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be exempt from property taxes, Salt Lake County commissioners ruled Tuesday."I'm not sure what your point is about the Church business ventures or why it matters. If you want to know what scripture has to say about Priesthood leaders making a living for their duties, read D&C 42. Many area authorities that are not US citizens are also employed full time by the church and receive a comfortable living. It is my personal speculation that the city of Enoch society does not operate on a money based economy. The Traveler Quote

PapilioMemnon Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Let's remember that each practicing, believing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints pays tithing along with many other offerings throughout a lifetime... Quote
