[E-MAIL} Using bacteria in oil wells to convert oil to natural gas Findings released during the annual Goldschmidt Conference at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville KNOXVILLE -- Some bacteria destroy oil. Might those bacteria lead oil companies to change their methods of harvesting the energy of the oil while at the same time reducing the carbon dioxide that burning oil and gasoline discharges into the atmosphere? Steve Larter thinks that may be possible. Larter, professor of geoscience and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Petroleum Geology at the University of Calgary, was the keynote speaker today for the 2010 Goldschmidt Conference hosted by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In his presentation, "Can Studies of Petroleum Biodegradation Help Fossil Fuel Carbon Management," Larter discussed microbes in the environment and their role in breaking down oil and generating natural gas. Petroleum biodegradation takes place in environments where petroleum is near ground level, actually seeping from the surface, or in oil-spill situations. Bacteria, yeasts, molds and certain fungi naturally break down petroleum in these environments. Larter discussed how these microbes take the byproducts of decomposition, such as carbon dioxide, and produce methane (natural gas) and hydrogen, less polluting fuels. Larter also examined the feasibility of capturing carbon dioxide and pumping it and special bacteria underground into alkaline rock formations where the carbon dioxide, the most abundant greenhouse gas, will be converted into natural gas, a valuable source of energy. The Goldschmidt Conference is an annual meeting sponsored by a number of international geochemical societies. The conference is named for Victor Goldschmidt (1888-1947), the Swiss-Norwegian scientist who was the father of geochemistry. This year's Goldschmidt Conference is being held during the week of June 13-18 in Knoxville, Tenn. Several thousand geochemists from around the world are presenting new scientific discoveries dealing with the Earth, energy and the environment. -

Be fortunate you still have busing MOE. Where I live, most of the busing programs are turned off thanks to our “gubernator”. “If wanna cut cost,,,start with education first.” I really feel for the poor in having to commute the distance with children due to the sparsely built schools are now consolidated to cut further cost. But living within half-mile, I believe like you, they either get a bike or just walk it. I remember when I was in England, my mother used to give me bus money to ride to school and back. England is notorious with on-time busing and rail system. What I did, learn to walk the distance at a fast walk pace. It helped to develop me with running and endurance for playing soccer with their middle school (2nd year). But the heartache which I never told my mother, with my friends, I used the bus money to stop on the way home at the train station sweet confectionary shop for candy. Obesity was never a problem when we walked to school.

Urlooney, I always believe the core of the Jewish faith, particularly taught in the Book of Deuteronomy and other earlier OT Prophets, such as Book of Jonah, was monotheism [as I would state it, having a belief in one God]. Looking at both Deuteronomy chapters for the answer, it states; Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath; there is none else. (Deut. 4:39) Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord; And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. (Deut. 6:4, 5) As I also believe, the rejection of Christianity by current Jews, mainly is the doctrine of Trinity; which seems to overlay and wash away the pure monotheism of Judaism.LDS church, since the First Vision of the dispensational Prophet Joseph Smith, as revealed the three Gods - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Looking at the First Vision and what Joseph taught, we still differ from Judaism and also from most Christian’s sects today. The church simply does not try to make these Three individuals into One person (trinity). That being stated, the Saints, also believe men may learn, in the long course of eternity, to become perfect as our divine role model – the Father…stated in the scriptures by the Savior, "even as your Father in heaven is perfect." We simple believe our goal of existment is always Godward, which means, it is for man to realize his full nature as a child of GOD. Having access to the eternality’s, many children of GOD may come to be like their FATHER or Creator. As it told throughout the bible and the our own LDS canonize scriptures, we will truly be sons/daughters of GOD. What was stated, are the Saints monotheistic in belief? I would state, not really. One may argue within the church, we are more on the line of polytheistic in belief. But I would contend no also. I genuine believe we are theistic. Why? Read the following statement received by Moses when standing before the Godhead (see also 2 Nephi chapter 29); And by the word of my power, have I created them, which is mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth. And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many. But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them. And it came to pass that Moses spake unto the Lord, saying: Be merciful unto thy servant, O God, and tell me concerning this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, and also the heavens, and then thy servant will be content. And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying: the heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine. And as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof even so shall another come; and there is no end to my works, neither to my words. For behold, this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. (Moses 1:32-39)

Not in Cali...or even Utah. Cali has its own fields, off shore rigs, and our wonderful neighbor to the north, Alaska supplies our 26 refineries. Utah does not import any oil but uses its own shell oil extraction. Unless something has changed since last year. We blame those of Florida and southern states. -

For a Patriarchal Blessing, I would recommend to fast and pray one day prior to the actual blessing. Live as if you were a missionary. This means, no TV, music that does not uplift the soul, scripture reading, pray throughout the day in asking the Lord to open the mind and allow His voice to be the Patriarch, and keep the thoughts clear and clean. What this may do for you, it will prepare your soul to be more recipient for this wonderful blessing. I also recommend, you bring a person with you. You are not allowed any recorder device or writing paper to record the event as it unfolds for you. Having another person in the same room, may aid you later to capture what was stated. You may hear specific revelations pertaining to you and may not be recorded for a wise purpose. The Patriarch is the only person who will record the blessing and later, depending on your area (time wise), will mail you a transcript. The Patriarch in most cases, will interview in noting your personal desires before the Lord. So I will say, have a mental list that you may present to either the Lord or the Patriarch. In my case, I did test the Patriarch to see whether it was the Lord or him in presenting the blessing. Stupidity on my behalf in testing the Lord, the few I held back, was answered by the Patriarch. So again, just state your desire before the Lord. Regards to a Temple Recommend, when you are interviewed by a member of the Stake Presidency, be yourself and look the presidency member in the eye at all times. I do this to see who fitches first. God bless and good luck on your blessing.

June 17, 1829 - 1829— Fayette, New York. Joseph Smith received D&C 18, a revelation to himself, Oliver Cowdery, and David Whitmer concerning the worth of souls in the sight of God. (History of the Church, 1:177–79) Historical Setting: "Nearly six years before the calling of the Twelve Apostles in this dispensation, and several months before the organization of the Church, the Lord indicated by revelation that a council of twelve Apostles would be chosen, and Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer were informed that it was to be their privilege to choose out the Twelve and instruct them in the duties of that calling. . . . "At this early day, Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer, who had sought the privilege of acting as two of the three witnesses of the Book of Mormon were appointed by divine revelation to seek out the Twelve. Martin Harris, who had been named as the other witness, was not named in this revelation as one who should share in this great honor. It was by sore and sincere repentance that the privilege was granted him to become a witness of the Book of Mormon, and the Lord still withheld from Martin the full exercise of his spirit when the call of the other two men came to choose out the Twelve. Before the time arrived for the choosing of the twelve special witnesses for Christ six years later, Martin had placed himself in a position where he could be recognized, and therefore the Prophet, by the revelation of the Lord, included Martin Harris with the other brethren in the choosing and ordaining of the Twelve Apostles." (Joseph Fielding Smith, CHMR 1:80, 82.) "Before the Church could be organized it was essential that there be revealed such matters as pertained to the organization of the Church. This was done between the time the witnesses viewed the plates of the ancient record and the sixth of April, 1830. The first of these (D&C Sec. 18) was given to Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer, at Fayette. It made known the calling of the Twelve Apostles who should be chosen in this dispensation, although it was about six years before they were called. It gave instructions 'relative to the building up of the Church of Christ according to the fulness of the Gospel.'" (Joseph Fielding Smith, ECH, pp. 84-85.) Joseph Smith - We now became anxious to have that promise realized to us, which the angel that conferred upon us the Aaronic Priesthood had given us [sec. 13], viz., that provided we continued faithful, we should also have the Melchizedek Priesthood, which holds the authority of the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. We had for some time made this matter a subject of humble prayer, more particularly to seek of the Lord what we now so earnestly desired; and here, to our unspeakable satisfaction, did we realize the truth of the Savior's promise—"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you"—for we had not long been engaged in solemn and fervent prayer, when the word of the Lord came unto us in the chamber [of old Father Whitmer in Fayette, Seneca County (Sec. 128:21)], commanding us that I should ordain Oliver Cowdery to be an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ; and that he also should ordain me to the same office; and then to ordain others, as it should be made known unto us from time to time. We were, however, commanded to defer this our ordination until such times as it should be practicable to have our brethren, who had been and who should be baptized, assembled together, when we must have by vote whether they were willing to accept us as spiritual teachers or not; when also we were commanded to bless bread and break it with them, and to take wine, bless it, and drink it with them; afterward proceed to ordain each other according to commandment; then call out such men as the Spirit should dictate, and ordain them; and then attend to the laying of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, upon all those whom we had previously baptized, doing all things in the name of the Lord. The following commandment will further illustrate the nature of our calling to this Priesthood, as well as that of others who were yet to be sought after. [section 18.] (HC 1:60-62, June 1829; Fayette, New York.) Background Narration: Joseph Fielding Smith - Nearly six years before the calling of the Twelve Apostles in this dispensation, and several months before the organization of the Church, the Lord indicated by revelation that a council of twelve Apostles would be chosen, and Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer were informed that it was to be their privilege to choose out the Twelve and instruct them in the duties of that calling . . . At this early day Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer, who had sought the privilege of acting as two of the three witnesses of the Book of Mormon were appointed by divine revelation to seek out the Twelve. Before the time arrived for the choosing of the twelve special witnesses for Christ six years later, Martin had placed himself in a position where he could be recognized, and therefore the Prophet, by the revelation of the Lord, included Martin Harris with the other brethren in the choosing and ordaining of the Twelve Apostles. (CHMR, Vol. 1, pp. 75, 77) Steven Harper - The Lord reveals Doctrine and Covenants 18 because Oliver Cowdery desires to know how to build the Church of Jesus Christ. The Lord tells him to rely on the Book of Mormon manuscript he has penned as Joseph translated. The Spirit has confirmed its verity to Oliver repeatedly. He can use it to compose a foundational document for the Church that is soon to be restored. If they build the Church on this foundation, "hell shall not prevail against" them (v. 5). Meanwhile, mankind is increasingly wicked and needs to repent and be baptized, just as Joseph recently obeyed the Lord's command to baptize Oliver. The Lord commands Oliver not to marvel that Joseph has been called. Oliver may not know the answer to the question "Why Joseph?" but the Lord does. The Lord teaches apostles Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer the value of a soul and thus the importance of repentance. Apostles are to remember the value God gives to each soul. The Redeemer suffered death for each and every soul so that each one could repent and come to him. The revelation sounds like an equation: The value of each soul is directly proportionate to the infinite atonement of Jesus Christ. He conquered death to bring the repentant to him. He feels great joy in repentant souls. For this reason Oliver and David are to cry repentance. If they spend their whole lives and only a single soul repents, their joy with that soul will be great in Heavenly Father's kingdom. How much greater joy, then, to help many repent? They are to follow the Book of Mormon in preaching the law of the gospel with faith, hope, and charity by inviting all mankind to come to Christ and assume his name, becoming his. Section 18 promises the calling of twelve apostles in the restored Church. The Lord speaks to them, promising grace sufficient to save them if they choose to meet the conditions on which he offers it: Walk uprightly and do not sin. He will ordain them to ordain others to declare the gospel by the power of the Holy Ghost, according to the will of God. Jesus Christ has so declared. These are his words, and the apostles can therefore testify they have heard his voice. Without his power they would not have the revelation to read. They do have it, and so they can testify that they know his words. Oliver and David are to select these apostles, who will be known by their desires, manifest in their works. (‘Making Sense of the Doctrine and Covenants’ by Steven C. Harper) Section Header Notes: Revelation to Joseph Smith the Prophet, Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer, given at Fayette, New York, June, 1829: Making known the calling of Twelve Apostles in these last days; and also containing instructions relative to building up the Church of Christ according to the fulness of the Gospel. When the Aaronic Priesthood was conferred, the bestowal of the Melchizedek Priesthood was promised. See heading to Section 13. In response to fervent supplication for greater knowledge on the matter the Lord gave this revelation. See History of the Church, vol. 1, pp. 60-64.—Diligence enjoined—Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer called with the calling of Paul the Apostle of old—The value of souls emphasized—The great joy attending conversion of souls to the Gospel of Christ—The calling of twelve to assist in the ministry foreshadowed—The Twelve, here called disciples but later named Apostles, to be chosen from among those who desire to take upon them the name of Christ with full purpose of heart—Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer commissioned to search out the Twelve. Versus amount: 47 Suggested link: D&C 13, D&C 128 Summary and Conclusion: As we participate with the Savior in these various labor opportunities it would be well that we plan and serve with the following admonitions in mind: Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God; (D&C 18:10) . . . Take upon them [you] my name with full purpose of heart. (D&C 18:27) . . . how great will be your joy if you shall bring many souls unto me! Same sentiments. This is why in Abraham [paraphrasing here], "they waited unto they obeyed." Example spoken by the Prophet Abraham; 25 And the Gods organized the earth to bring forth the beasts after their kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after its kind; and the Gods saw they would obey. (Abra 4:25) If they failed to obey, not luckily the Godhead will allow it to proceed in its creation. Noting the posting I presented, my own assessment, Joseph witnessed this in the Johnston home (see D&C 76) and made a commented later about it. Agency is our self-existent, even GOD. Agency is the universal driven plan. I do not believe, intelligences always do obey under physical or spiritual conditions witnessed by both Abraham and Josephs. -
Good morning Ron... Ron, we do it for Christ and not for ourselves. Using my own life as an example, I am only here to build and serve in the kingdom for Christ and bring glory to Him, that He may bring glory to the FATHER (GOD). We simply serve Him and no other. Now, if I serve Him, I serve His servants, the brethren. It is my goal and desire for my life, being centered on the Savior, to be with Him into the externalities. It is my only desire to serve my Master forever and to glory Him. In our home, we used the same motto that was stated by the Prophet Joshua; “Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Josh. 24:14–15. It is Christ whom we truly love and serve. Ron, in order to be with our beloved Savior in the eternities, we need to rise to a level of glory by utilizing various ordinance of the Gospel provided by Savior, we can be exaltated in order to be with Him. The emphasis is not for our own exaltation but our desire to be with the Savior. The missionary may have offended you by his action but what is your spiritual desire, to please the Lord? I truly believe it is. Ron, spiritual maturity may vary among members in the church, even on this forum that I have seen since my inception in 2008. But our cause is to show our love to others, even those who despise us and would seek to honor themselves and not the Savior. Ron, surely it pleases the Lord when we, His brothers and sisters, reach out to one another, to give help along the way, and to bring another closer to the Master (Jesus Christ). The Savior taught, “[When] ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matt. 25:40). He wants us to “mourn with those that mourn[,] … comfort those that stand in need of comfort” (Mosiah 18:9), and “by love serve one another” (Gal. 5:13). Even in the arrogance of a few members, we still remain focus on the gospel path and the brethren (Prophet, the Apostles, Seventies). Again, our mortal and spiritual goal, regardless others actions or mincing of words, to center our life on the Savior that we serve Him forever. Even through trials of fires by others, we walk the narrow path the Lord has given us. Let me end now with beautiful scribed words that was put to music by Susan Evans McCloud: Savior, may I learn to love thee, Walk the path that thou hast shown, Pause to help and lift another, Finding strength beyond my own. … I would be my brother’s keeper; I would learn the healer’s art. To the wounded and the weary I would show a gentle heart. … Savior, may I love my brother As I know thou lovest me, Find in thee my strength, my beacon, For thy servant I would be. Can God Speed Up Time? Does He Learn through fast simulation?

It took awhile but here is the evidence. Elder B. H. Roberts was responsible in writing Church History. The Prophet Joseph Smith is credited with having said that our planet was made up of the fragments of a planet which previously existed; some mighty convulsions disrupted that creation and made it desolate. Both its animal and vegetable life forms were destroyed. And when those convulsions ceased, and the rent earth was again consolidated, and it became desirable to replenish it, the work was begun by making a mist to rise, that it might descend in gentle rain upon the barren earth, that it might again be fruitful. Then came one of the sons of God to the earth-Adam. A garden was planted in Eden and the man placed in it, and there the Lord brought to him every beast of the field and every fowl of the air, and Adam gave names to them all. Afterwards was brought to Adam his wife, whom, since she was derived from man, he named woman; and she became his help-mate, his companion and the mother of his children. In this nothing is hinted at about man being made from the dust, and woman manufactured from a rib, a story which has been a cause of much perplexity to religious people, and a source of much impious merriment to reckless unbelievers. We are informed that the Lord God made every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb before it grew on our planet. As vegetation was created or made to grow upon some older earth, and the seeds thereof or the plants themselves were brought to our earth and made to grow, so likewise man and his help-mate were brought from some other world to our own, to people it with their children. And though it is said that the "Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground"-it by no means follows that he was "formed" as one might form a brick, or form the dust of this earth. We are all "formed" of the dust of the ground, though instead of being moulded as a brick we are brought forth by the natural laws of procreation; so also was Adam and his wife in some older world. And as for the story of the rib, under it I believe the mystery of procreation is hidden. (“Gospel and Man's Relationship” by Elder B.H. Roberts)
