An open letter to President Obama from Jon Voight
Hemidakota replied to bytor2112's topic in Current Events
Nancy, I am not advocating I don't love people either. Illegal is just that. It goes to any person entering into any nation unlawfully. There are more problems than those who enter this nation from the south border regards to illegally being here. Look around…how many of people enter this country from around the world illegally? To be blunt, only plight here is to stay home and fight your cause. Hopefully, the day will come when Zion will become a border-less nation. -
Nice...but like always with many generals of the past, who saw the truth while serving their post, become frustrated with the administration, those that fill the post by this group, in trying to complete the task at hand. I suspect, we will be given more insight down the road (book perhaps) on why this man had such a great contempt with various individuals.

A simple violation of the land does makes a difference for me in whether or not this person can be counted on when our country may need him or her to stand up for the cause of freedom. I am first generation American on my mother's side of the family, even among my siblings. Legality a born American and raised in both countries but attaining citizenship through proper channels. They need to seek the same. If not stay home. My own relatives sought to come to America legally and after one year, departed on good terms to their own native country. I for one believe Arizona is doing what is necessary to govern their own border. On the other hand, California is filled with cowards and liberals in standing up dong the right. Arizona believing it or not, is practicing the same type of laws what is seen in Mexico. Hard to believe, go their and check it out. But, see what happens when Central Americas enters southern Mexico illegally? You may be surprised...too bad a few bad apples (children of illegals) spouting off their mouths don't do the research of their parents native land before embarrassing the family name. -
Tithing
Hemidakota replied to DonKeefe's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
In providing some thoughts here, did the Savior pay tithing? If He did, wouldn't we as Christians follow the same path? However, receiving the fullness of the Priesthood or sealing of eternal marriage, tithing is a lesser concern to which she and her beloved companion, will covenant with GOD and the Savior, they will give their talents, riches, time, and physical abilities in building the Kingdom of GOD on this earth and to HIS Son. The Savior may require of them a greater charge than you... Do you remember in the Book of Acts, when a couple was told by Peter to sell all of their goods and give it to the church? What happen to this couple when they sold their goods? Even the members of the kingdom may be required from time-to-time to follow the same path. Paying ten percent of one's income pales in giving it all to the Savior - following the exemplar manner of the Widow's mite. Who in the end receives the greater blessing? What was the Savior's words concerning this widow? -
If we are not associated with Christ our Master, I highly doubt that this land or the world will still be here.

Have we changed that much from the premortal life.
Hemidakota replied to martybess's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Good evening Seminarysnoozer. Excellent thought. As you stated, GOD is definitely not a respecter any person. I have witnessed this among children in the church. As President David O. McKay stated back in the 1950s, “…this is a royal generation…” In our own haste to pre-judge others members, what we suspect is a servant (no one of great importance) maybe our master in the worlds to come, or, may have influence in this mortality in whether we live or die by the hands of those assigned, which is ultimately, the will of the Master. We should never assume that a person who has no 'viable leadership calling' is any lesser than one of the brethren (sisters) before GOD. We simply do not know there previous pre-mortal status and why they are here. I think it was in the discourse of King Follett funeral sermon where Joseph discussed that we were with GOD in the beginning. What that entails for us in gaining further knowledge, prior to our spiritual creation, our progression paths were the same but aided by another – as weaker intelligence, we can be aided in reaching that level with GOD. Joseph stated this same thought; “The first principles of man are self-existent with God. God himself, finding he was in the midst of spirits and glory, because he was more intelligent, saw proper to institute laws whereby the rest could have a privilege to advance like himself. The relationship we have with God places us in a situation to advance in knowledge. He has power to institute laws to instruct the weaker intelligences, that they may be exalted with Himself, so that they might have one glory upon another, and all that knowledge, power, glory, and intelligence, which is requisite in order to save them in the world of spirits.” Each of us carried forth into this life, our spiritual personality. What can change if allowed from our former purity state, be molded by parental nurturing, cultural cultivation, academic learning, our tasking among the mortal beings (serving in a ministering angel capacity), and given in to those divine provided character weaknesses. We are not alone in this life as I talked about before. Neither do I believe, Christ was alone to learn for Himself in this same mortality. It is matter of our desires before GOD are made manifested and our attunement to the Spirit, we can change the wrong and improve our character (ego) in becoming like the Master. As Joseph stated; “All the minds and spirits that God ever sent into the world are susceptible of enlargement.” What is our goal for this mortality, enlargement. However, as you stated, let us not be consumed by judging others (adding further here) by their status in life, mortal blisses, scholarly or academic attainment, or position within the church. Our focus is to seek the face of GOD and to aid others to reach to HIS level that may also inherit the kingdom for eternality. LDS.org - Ensign Article - The King Follett Sermon -

It is modesty when I can see low cut dress in revealing cleavage, wearing see through blouses, low cut dresses where one is constantly pulling down the helm line? For men, to tight of a shirt and pants, skimpy bathing suits, low cut frontal shirts, and so forth? Not only the clothes we wear for church but what is worn everyday and to a beach, river, lake, or pool. What is the purpose of buying such clothing if a person is a devote follower of Christ?

They do. They actually make sport version so any athlete can still use his/her garments while exercising but primarily design for the average military member. The concept was born for the military in chaffing problems seen while exercising in heat and in combat exercises. Each military has different requirements as to camouflage utilities and using T-shirts being exposed, having the torso blouse removed. You can send in your colored version of T-shirt and have the markings done on the inside of he T-Shirt. While exercising in a combat fashion, meaning in wearing camouflage pants and boots, can wear one T-shirt vice two, and not exposing the markings. They also sell the white high-collared T-Shirt version with markings. This is used for a 'charlie uniform'. A charlie uniform is a uniform without a jacket. Short sleeve shirt and pants. This way, there is only one shirt to deal with.

Have we changed that much from the premortal life.
Hemidakota replied to martybess's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
[My opinion here] The Morning Stars, who shouted for joy was not as big as those who were critics of the plan. What was left from the third that was removed from FATHER's sight, were saved from the depths of hell and loneliness being without our divine parents. Did we change from our pre-mortal realm? Being positive here, I would say yes. Hopefully, we made an improved change to our eternal lives to mirror our divine parents. Yet, to have a reality check, the only way to find out is to seek your own answer from GOD. The veil is only thick enough, as you make it. Already, some one already touched upon the ‘Parable of the Talents’ but let me touch on another venue, not only increasing our talents in mortality, but using them to help others and walking the narrow path that leads to the Tree of Life (see 1st Nephi). ‘Walk with Me’, Sister Elaine L. Jack used the analogy of the Tree of Life with our own forging the narrow path in mortality. Here is a partial to the Ensign article (see link below for full article): Remember, our eternal progression is the very essence of our earthly existence. It is the Lord’s plan to get us all the way home to our Father in Heaven. This I know: Each of us can get there from here. President Spencer W. Kimball promised, “It may seem a little difficult at first, but when a person begins to catch a vision of the true work, when he begins to see something of eternity in its true perspective, the blessings begin to far outweigh the cost of leaving ‘the world’ behind” (Ensign, June 1976, p. 6). Some of our steps come in learning that the path is indeed straight and narrow. The concept of a straight path intrigues me. So often we go around in a circle, spinning our spiritual wheels while only our temporal treads hit the road. That seems out of step and out of balance with the way the Lord intended. We have knowledge and spiritual power; such momentum far exceeds anything the world has to offer. Putting off to tomorrow is to fall behind, step backward, and open the door to the subtle influences of Satan. “There is no such thing as standing still in the eternal work of our God” (George Q. Cannon, Millennial Star, 23 Feb. 1899, p. 117). Elder Neal A. Maxwell has said, “There are no separate paths back to that heavenly home. Just one straight and narrow way, at the end of which, though we arrive trailing tears, we shall at once be ‘drenched in joy’ ” (Ensign, May 1978, p. 11). Indeed, the path is not soft, green grass; it is not without hardship and heartache. It is often an uphill climb strewn with rocks, many of them in the shape of mighty boulders. We can’t predict what our challenges will be because our lives are all different. Though the path is narrow, our moves are not scripted. There are diversions which attempt to lure us from the straight and narrow. It is our covenants that are the road signs to eternal life. Just as it is more difficult to read the signs on the main road from a side street, so too it is more difficult to hear the still, small voice of warnings, rough road ahead, when we have distanced ourselves from our covenants. When the Lord says “walk with me” (Moses 6:34), He is asking us to become more spiritual by being obedient to His word. Developing spirituality is critical to our eternal progress. We already seen the pattern set already by GOD for us. What remains is the details that Ram alluded too that is not shown. We do know by a simple vision from Joseph Smith, witnessing our first mortal parents, Adam and Eve were seated on thrones of glory; both of which, were enrobed with the celestial royalty, sharing the authority together. June 22, 1834 — Fishing River, Missouri. While on the Zion's Camp march, Joseph Smith received D&C 105, a revelation concerning the delay in the redemption of Zion in Jackson County. (History of the Church, 2:107–11) Historical Setting: Four months prior to the receipt of this revelation, the Lord had assured the saints that Zion could be redeemed provided that His intructions were heeded and His commandments were obeyed. (See D&C Section 103) At that time, the Lord instructed Joseph Smith to organize a company of men (Zion's Camp) to go to Missouri for the purpose of rendering assistance to the scattered saints. Members of the church in Ohio were also directed to contribute money to aid in the redemption of Zion. The saints in Ohio only partially responded to the Lord's requests. They failed to contribute sufficient money and men for this expedition. In spite of these shortcomings, approximately two hundred men did go to Missouri. After their arrival at Fishing River in Clay County, Missouri, a revelation was given to Joseph Smith on June 22, 1834. (Section 105) In this revelation, the Lord declared that Zion would not be redeemed at that time and revealed several requirements that must be met before the eventual redemption of Zion. In this chapter we will discuss two topics. (Sacred Truths of the Doctrine and Covenants , vol. 1 by L. G. Otten, C. M. Caldwell) Joseph Smith, Jun. - Cornelius Gillium, the sheriff of Clay county, came to our camp to hold consultation with us. I marched my company into a grove near by and formed in a circle, with Gillium in the center. Gillium commenced by saying that he had heard that Joseph Smith was in the camp, and if so he would like to see him. I arose and replied, "I am the man." This was the first time that I had been discovered or made known to my enemies since I left Kirtland. Gillium then gave us instruction concerning the manners, customs, and the dispositions of the people, and what course we ought to pursue to secure their favor and protection, making certain inquiries, to which we replied, which were afterwards published, and will appear under date of publication. (HC, Vol. 2, p. 108) Background Narration: George Q. Cannon - It was the 5th day of May, 1834, when Joseph, having gathered clothing and food for his brethren and sisters in Missouri who had been robbed and plundered of their effects, departed, with a company of brethren, from Kirtland to find and succor the distressed Saints. His party consisted of about one hundred men, nearly all young and nearly all endowed with the Priesthood. At New Portage they were joined by fifty men, some of whom had gone in advance of the main body from Kirtland. A careful and harmonious organization of the company was made that the progress of this Camp of Zion might be in steadiness and order. The wagons of the party numbered twenty and were filled with provisions and clothing, and such arms as the company needed for the securing of game and for defense. Nearly all of the men were compelled to walk, and Joseph cheerfully led their journey. They traveled sometimes forty or fifty miles in a day, resting always on the Sabbath and holding religious services. . . . The march was necessarily one of great hardship. The men waded rivers, struggled through marshes and tramped across hard stretches of hill and sandy plain. Many of them suffered from bruised and bleeding feet. Often they were harassed by evil men who suspected their mission and sought to prevent its fulfillment. A few persons in the Camp had proved unruly, and while they were in the vicinity of the Illinois River, Joseph was led to utter a solemn warning against the dissensions of some of his brethren. He exhorted them to faithfulness and humility, and told them that the Lord had revealed to him that a scourge must come upon them in consequence of their disobedience. Still if they would repent and humble themselves before the Lord, a part of the severity of the scourge might be turned away. Joseph and his brethren reached the banks of the Mississippi on the 4th day of June, and encamped at a point where the river was a mile and a half in width. Having but one ferry boat two days were required in which to make the passage of the entire party from Illinois into Missouri. Besides, they were delayed, though not prevented, by the menace of numerous enemies who swore that they should not pass beyond the Mississippi. . . . The assaults of the mob on the scattered Saints and their property in Jackson County continued. In the latter part of April, 1834, one hundred and fifty houses were torn to the ground by the rabble. Joseph and his party found a branch of the Church at Salt River, in the state of Missouri, where they encamped to spend Sunday, the 8th of June. Here they were joined by Hyrum Smith and Lyman Wight with another party which had been gathered in the State of Michigan and surrounding regions; and the Camp of Zion with this addition now numbered two hundred and five men and twenty-five wagons well laden. Several days were devoted to much needed recuperation, for the greater part of this devoted band of men had traveled nine hundred miles in a little more than a month's time, the journey being largely made on foot amidst all the natural hardships of a wild country where constant watchfulness had to be exercised. On the 18th day of June they pitched their tents within one mile of Richmond in Ray County. . . . The sole purpose of Joseph and his brethren was to bring succor to their suffering friends; but this their inhuman enemies were determined they should not do. Fifteen of the most violent mobocrats, with Samuel C. Owens and James Campbell at their head started to raise an army to meet and overpower the Camp of Zion. James Campbell swore as he adjusted his pistols in the holsters, "The eagles and turkey buzzards shall eat my flesh if I do not fix Joe Smith and his army so that their skins will not hold shucks, before two days are past." That night as twelve of these mobocrats were attempting to cross the Missouri River their boat was sunk and seven of them drowned. Among the lost was Campbell, whose corpse floated down the river several miles and lodged upon a pile of driftwood, where ravenous birds did indeed pick his flesh from his bones, leaving the hideous bare skeleton to be discovered three weeks later by one Mr. Purtie. On the night of the 19th, unobserved by a large party of their enemies who intended to fall upon them and murder them, the members of Zion's Camp passed through Richmond in the darkness, and pitched their tents between two branches of Fishing River. While the members of the Camp were making preparations for the night, five armed desperadoes appeered before them and, with many blasphemies, said: "You will see hell before morning. Sixty men are coming from Richmond, and seventy more from Clay County to utterly destroy you." More than three hundred bloodthirsty men had engaged to concentrate at this point and attack Joseph. But to the subsequent unbounded thankfulness of the members of the Camp, the Lord interposed. When night came a mighty hurricane arose, throwing the plans of the savages into confusion, scattering them in the utmost disorder, and melting their courage into abject fright in the presence of the awful elemental strife. The severity of the storm was not felt to the same extent where Joseph and the camp had rested, but around them, hail fell like grapeshot, spreading terror among the people and devastation amidst all the work of human hands. While the surrounding region was in this state of consternation, Joseph and his party took refuge in a log meeting house near their camp, being compelled to enter the building through a window. When the commotion was over and they emerged from their retreat, the Prophet gave orders that the parties to whom the house belonged should be visited and tendered an explanation of the intrusion and remuneration for any fancied damage. So scrupulous was he not to trespass upon the rights of others. When the tornado burst only forty of the mob had been able to cross Fishing River which rose thirty feet in thirty minutes, separating them from their companions, and making them glad to flee back among their lawless friends in Jackson County. The larger party of the mob, thus foiled in their purpose to cross the river, also fled. The Big Fishing River had risen nearly forty feet in one night. One of the mob had been killed by lightning. On Saturday, the 21st of June, Colonel Sconce and two other leading men of Ray County visited Joseph, and begged to know his intentions, stating: "We see that there is an almighty power that protects this people." Colonel Sconce confessed that he had been leading a company of armed men to fall upon the Prophet, but had been driven back by the storm. The Prophet with all the mildness and dignity which ever sat so becomingly upon him, and which always impressed his hearers, answered that he had come to administer to the wants of his afflicted friends and did not wish to molest or injure anybody. He then made a full and fair statement of the difficulties as he understood them; and when he had closed the three ambassadors, melted into compassion, offered their hands and declared that they would use every endeavor to allay the excitement. On the 22nd day of June, 1834, while encamped on Fishing River, Joseph received a revelation [section 105] in which the Lord declared that the Elders should wait for a season for the redemption of Zion, that he did not require at their hands to fight the battles of Zion, for he would fight their battles; and this he addressed to the Camp which had come up from Kirtland and other places into Missouri to do His will and with the hope that they might contribute to the redemption of His afflicted people. The Lord rebuked many among the Saints in the branches of the Church in the different states for their failure to join the Camp of Zion in response to the call which He had made upon them. The Lord had required the churches abroad to send up wise men with their moneys to purchase lands in Missouri, and thus assist in the redemption of Zion; but they had not hearkened to His words that He had prepared a blessing and an endowment for them if they would continue faithful. The revelation concluded: [sec. 105:37-41, quoted.] (Life of Joseph Smith, 1907, pp. 156-64.) Section Header Notes: Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, on Fishing River, Missouri, June 22, 1834. Mob violence against the Saints in Missouri had increased; and organized bodies from several counties had declared their intent to destroy the people. The Prophet had come from Kirtland, at the head of a party known as Zion's Camp, bringing clothing and provisions. While this party was encamped on Fishing River the Prophet received this revelation. See History of the Church, vol. 2, chaps. 5 to 8 inclusive. For explanation of unusual names see heading to Section 78.—But for their transgressions the people might have been redeemed from their enemies—Unwillingness to impart to the poor condemned—The redemption of Zion deferred—The people to appeal to the officers of the law for redress—Lands in Jackson and adjoining countries to be purchased—Endowment to be given in the House of the Lord in process of erection at Kirtland—The day of calling followed by the day of choosing—The Saints to lift an ensign of peace Versus amount: 41 Suggested link: D&C 103 Summary and Conclusion: In retrospect, we note that the efforts and journeys of Zion's Camp did not result in the redemption of Zion. As to the accomplishments of the camp and the way by which Zion is to be eventually redeemed, Elder Orson F. Whitney has explained: Thus ended that remarkable expedition; remarkable for its object, for the issues involved, for its tragic episodes, examples of heroism and miraculous manifestations of divine power. What had it achieved? some may ask. Nay, might not many be tempted to query, was not the mission of Zion's Camp a failure? "What have you accomplished?" was the sneering taunt of the apostate and of those weak in faith, met by the remnant of the little band on their return to Kirtland. "Just what we went for"; the meek, though firm reply of such men as Heber C. Kimball and Brigham Young. And they were right. To them it was no failure. The trial of their faith was complete. Their offering, like Abraham's, had been accepted. They had been weighed in the eternal balance, and were not found wanting. But what of Zion and her redemption? Let the word of the Lord, the God of Enoch, the God of Joseph give answer: ". . . THE REDEMPTION OF ZION MUST NEEDS COME BY POWER." [D&C 103:15] Power dwells in unity, not in discord; in humility, not pride; in sacrifice, not selfishness; obedience, not rebellion. Zion's Camp, if it failed at all in fulfilling its mission, failed for precisely similar reasons to those which had caused the expulsion of the Saints from Jackson County; reasons which, in ancient times, kept Israel wandering for forty years in the wilderness, within sight of their coveted Caanan, which they were not permitted in that generation to possess. Like Moses, these modern pilgrims beheld, as from Pisgah's top, their promised land. Like Moses, on account of transgression, they were not permitted to "cross over." No doubt there were Calebs and Joshuas in the Camp, who were worthy. But the great event, in the wisdom of the Highest, was not then destined to be. It was left for a future generation and its Joshua to go up in the might of the Lord and redeem Zion. (LHCK, pp. 63-64) As to the progress of the church in some of the ways the Lord has directed the saints, President Spencer W. Kimball has said: The people are attending their meetings and looking after their personal responsibilities. The temples are increasing in numbers, and the work at the temples indicates great spirituality. The educational program is pleasing, with the university and colleges, the institutes and seminaries, and the ecclesiastical organizations of the Church all teaching. And knowledge is expanding and testimonies are deepening. The construction program continues to expand throughout the land so that whereas many church buildings throughout the world are turned into bars or are boarded up and abandoned, we are building almost daily new chapels throughout the world, and they are filled with happy, faithful people. We are not satisified or boastful, but keep in mind constantly what the Savior has said to us: "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32) (CR, October 1974, p. 4) (Sacred Truths of the Doctrine and Covenants , vol. 1 by L. G. Otten, C. M. Caldwell):

June 21, 1831— Kirtland, Ohio. Joseph Smith received D&C 56, a revelation concerning Thomas B. Marsh and Ezra Thayre. (History of the Church, 1:186 88) Historical Setting: The Lord had previously commanded Thomas B. Marsh and Ezra Thayre to go to Missouri as missionary companions. (See D&C 52:22) However, in the Historical Setting for Section 56, we are alerted to a problem. Ezra Thayre was not prepared to fulfill his appointment. Without a companion Thomas B. Marsh wondered what he should do and sought advice from the Lord through the Prophet Joseph Smith. As a result of Ezra Thayre's failure to be obedient the Lord revoked the former commandment. (See D&C 56:5) (Sacred Truths of the Doctrine and Covenants , vol. 1 by L. G. Otten, C. M. Caldwell) Joseph Smith, Jun. - Soon after I received the foregoing [sec. 55], Elder Thomas B. Marsh came to inquire what he should do; as Elder Ezra Thayre, his yoke-fellow in the ministry, could not get ready to start on his mission as soon as he (Marsh) would; and I inquired of the Lord, and received the following: [sec. 56, follows.] (HC 1:186, June 1831, Kirtland, Ohio.) Background Narration: Richard D. Draper Four revelations were received by Joseph Smith between the first and third weeks of June 1831. It was during this period that the Prophet and others were making preparations to fulfill the instructions given by the Lord to "let my servants Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon take their journey as soon as preparations can be made to leave their homes, and journey to the land of Missouri. And inasmuch as they are faithful unto me, it shall be made known unto them what they shall do; and it shall also, inasmuch as they are faithful, be made known unto them the land of your inheritance" (D&C 52:3-5). The idea thee the Lord would designate a land to be an inheritance for the Saints, as he had done anciently with Israel, caused great excitement among them. Of the four revelations to be studied here, three (D&C 53, 54, and 56) were either a direct or an indirect outgrowth of the instructions given in section 52. The other one became directly tied to it. Therefore, to understand the setting and expectations of the Saints is most helpful in interpreting the message of these sections. (To Do the Will of the Lord, Richard D. Draper) Richard O. Cowan The Lord had called Thomas B. Marsh to go with Ezra Thayre (D&C 52:22) and Newel Knight to go with Selah Griffin (52:32) as missionaries to Missouri. Meanwhile, because of the land disagreement in Thompson (see D&C 54), Thayre apparently had lost the spirit of his calling, and Knight had been told to go with his branch to Missouri. Therefore the Lord reassigned Marsh and Griffin to serve as missionary companions. (Doctrine and Covenants, Our Modern Scripture by Richard O. Cowan) Section Header Notes: Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, June, 1831. Elder Ezra Thayre, who had been appointed to travel in the ministry with Elder Thomas B. Marsh, was unable to start on his mission when the latter was ready, and the Lord answered the Prophet's inquiry on the matter by giving this revelation—The Lord may and does revoke as well as command—Ezra Thayre rebuked for pride and selfishness—Selah J. Griffin appointed in his place to travel with Thomas B. Marsh—Offenders reproved, both rich and poor—Necessity of repentance as expressed by the broken heart and contrite spirit.Versus amount: 20 Suggested link: D&C 55 Summary and Conclusion: These revelations serve to show that the Lord is conscious of the needs of his children. However, he has set criteria through which his blessings come. Sometimes it is the responsibility of individuals to bring his work to pass. When this is so, he expects obedience and devotion. When men are selfish or rebellious, they bring judgment upon themselves. However, if they work, "with an eye single to my glory, you shall have a remission of your sins and a reception of the Holy Spirit" (D&C 55:1). All is based on the condition of the heart; if it is pure, broken, and contrite, "they shall see the kingdom of God coming in power and great glory unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs" (D&C 56:18).
