Do you feel that dreams have real meaning?
bcguy replied to theBUBBAMANcan's topic in General Discussion
A few things about this story. My parents drank alcohol off and on in the 70s and in the 80s, mom was drinking more and more alcohol. she would often come home drunk from driving. Was jailed once and brought shadowy men into the house "dad was seperated from her". Honestly, I think the absence of my dad most day as a resteraunt manager and moms shift hours did not leave much time at all for both of them. The recession of the early 80s hit and it all came to a head. Mom asked my dad for divorse while shopping and he fought it. See, my dad is a loyal, honest, hard working person. Mom is to, but I think the alcohol had a huge play in it. The alcohol is almost a devil in a bottle. My dad shortly after the separation, lost the family business and his job. Since the house we had was secured to the other business partner in exchange he pay the down payment for the loan, he got the house so now, we became renters in our own house! Mom could not pay the increased rent in our own house, so we had to move out! Sucks back then. Great property 3/4 acer with trees. Anyway, I think you are doing the right thing. She will not change. My mom, who I though was cured, got drunk one night with us and came home and broke her leg from falling down on 2 steps! Now as for dreams. I am a prolific dreamer since the age of two. My dreams can be increasingly lucid "I talk to the people and they talk back to me" or just downright bizarre and weird! Only had one dream come true. mom was crying her her dream saying she was fired. She called the other day she was fired from her 20 years on as a nurse, but was hired the next day in a different department. next :) -
My wife made a comment about a member who was at a curves session the other day. She was watching as another member was using multiple 4 letter words over and over about the temple and the church. She said she did not see my wife but then, saw her and shut up. When that person left, others said "I can see you and sister doe being members of the church, but her??? no way!" My wife said she sounded like she had truckers mouth. She was a little embarrassed. Ever seen a case like this? From my understanding, the bishopric has warned her about her foul mouth.

Blame most of the countries debt on the us government and its ignorant voters. Why was bush elected twice? He has personally done more damage then any tiny terrorist group in terms of economic damage then any president in history. But the disintegration of the us standards of living goes way back to the nixen erra when he lifted terrifs on foreign goods. President Regan instituted Reaganomics which further led to the disintegration of the country small business. Then companies like walmart moved in to take advantage of it. When most factories left the US for china, so did the federal/state and local tax dollars. No wonder why alot of governments and the us are hurting financialy from loss of tax dollars! I think all of you would be smart and find ways to make your own things instead of buying them, or at least, buy used and repair it. Try to buy American made goods. The art of "making things" has been some what lost in the last three decades with more "disposable" consumer goods that you can purchase. Did you know, I try to follow this same concept? As a example, I recently took in my alternator to have it repaired at 150.00. I said, well tell you what, I will bring it to you when I get the funds. So I went out and found some brushes, with a little help from a truck forum, I unsoldered my old brushes, soldered in new brushes and sanded the commuter on the rotor of the alternator. Slapped everything together and it works like new. Total cost, 3 dollars for the sandpaper. The brushes were given to me for free, i did not ask for free but were given to me. If any of you live away from expensive cities, find a way to buy some build able land or buy a house and fix it up. You cannot control your rent but you can control your sweat equity.

What song is currently stuck in your head?
bcguy replied to Blackmarch's topic in General Discussion
shees, to many. Mabey the reason why I can memorize formulas. Yet to still keep up with my physics class. Some times the songs repeat over and over. Kind of drives me nuts. I should take up a musical class. Perhaps guitar or piano. -
I just read this on cnn and it seems increadably sad how a nice teenager that came from Ireland was bullied to the point where she hanged her self. Prosecutor: Nine teens charged in bullying that led to girl's suicide - CNN.com My wife has told me she loved Ireland. She loves the people there because they are so friendly. Is it possible this friendliness and the fact she had dated a high-school athlete led to her death? The article pretty much points it out but, this article goes well bond your typical bulling experience. I was bullied in high school and never defended my self. I just swayed away from most people and kept to my self in the library. I had few if any friends because I was shy. Thankfully, our school had almost no fights and generally, people got along. Few if any involved in any kind of drugs except the occational joint smoker off property lines.

Is it that the risk stem from the type of delivery vs birth defects? Our province is not a suitable place for children who has developmental conditions vs say alberta. This is one of the reasons why my friend moved her familly from here to alberta. Now, read wifes eggs would have to be examined? Lastly, economy is sucking now. Not working full time and possibly now part time, so may have to look for other work. Such is life!

Ive read that woman who are past 35 run the risk of having kids with birth defects. Is there a sound rule on this? Wife is 40 plus and we have no kids. She is depressed because of it but it was her choice 10 years ago not to have any "we cannot afford them" what her common comment. Thanks

Let see, The medical system. If everyone was eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis it would put alot less stress on the medical system. Flying on aircraft. Less weight means less fuel consumes means less carbon footprint. That goes the same for automobiles. Imagine, us fat people are making the arabs all the more richer because we are not near our BMI. Workplace. IF you are lean, you are more alert, more energy and get more things done at work. you become more productive. Then there is the all important will you live long enough to your 65th birthday? Obesity is out of control in the US. Put the blame on our sedentary lifestyle and the FAT food we eat at the fast food restaurants. BTW, I had a chicken teriacki submarine sandwitch with only water. It was good and filling with none of the ugly side effects of fast food. I am also EATING LESS then I did twenty years ago. Now, I have thought about being a cirtified trainer for older folks Good way to help people shed the pounds and loose weight. The end test would mean having a car drop us off 10-20 miles in the middle of no where and hike back to civilization :)

Not just kids but adults to! When was the last time I have seen organized physical events for adults? I never heard of kids dieing from heart attacks. Never heard of them suffering from obisity releated health issue unless its diabetes. I have taken it apon myself to work out by running, swimming and weight lifting and I am past 40 years of age. So its time to get to it work out shed some pounds for a better you and your health :) I have shed 15 bls and getting ever so closer to my BMI!

Well the olympics is around the corner. Our city news paper just printed the routs the tourch berarer will run and it will end at our major intersection where I live next to. Kinda a weird feeling to see something like this happen. I have never been to a olympic event but we have two of four tickets to attend the opening ceremoies. Wife sold the other two tickets. Her boss wanted five of his kids, wife and employees to enter the lottery for the tickets at 1,200 each in case only one person won. Well everyone won. So the boss/father/husband had to fork out 24 grand to pay for everyones tickets. Nice to be a dentist Anyway, the bad news is the cost of the olympics. Most here now regret the cost. Security will run 900 million dollars. Olympic village another 750-800 million and know what else. Our wonderfully hated primere gorden camble is now implmenting a new tax struture that will charge tax against food and resteraunts that previosly had no tax. Vancouver residents saw there tax bill go up 50%!! Why, to pay for the olympics obviosly!! Anyway, hope you all enjoy the olympics at our cost. We did get some bennies out of it but we are in the negative for the next 30 years.

Just like the war in Iraq, I am sure in the long term the us government will work with top leaders in the Haitian government to appoint new personal. Here is a long and in-depth history of Haiti. History of Haiti - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi everyone. I have been training in disaster relief from a emergency communication perspective as a part of FEMA sponsored ARES training. From a logistics point of view, what these people need is heavy equipment along side USAR trained teams to extract the living. Almost every major facility in Porta-prince has been leveled according to this article The Bellingham Herald / News Update / Bodies piled on streets after powerful Haiti quake UN, Canada, and the United state are currently sending this and medical teams to the most affected areas of Haiti. What is best is donation as stated above. That will help to pay for much needed medical supplies, food and water and emergency portable shelters. Now, I have to be really critical on the Hatian goverment and the building contractors for allowing these substandard building to be built with NO rebar or reinforced steel. I have seen countless buildings in these images and almost no rebar has been shown in the slabs of concrete or cinder blocks. Concrete by nature is strong, but also very brittle. A few months ago, I saw a demonstration where a 8x4 slab of concrete was suspended on its ends by two 4x8 slabs of concrete. A bowling ball was dropped from a hight of 3-4 feet. Apon impact with this horizontal slab of concrete, the concrete fractured and dropped instantly onto the ground. Yes, sounds very shocking but true. Had these buildings been built with concrete reinforced rebar, there would not be nearly as many fatalities as we see in the daily news cast. To prevent disasters like this from happeneing to this severity, building codes need to be required so there would not be so many fatalities as a result of quakes of this magnatude.

And here you can see my bamboo bike - the overall weight is 10.7 kg (23.6 lbs). Bamboo is EXTREEMLY strong. Here is proof! bamboo scafolding! http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_MY_P_F/0_my_photographs_hong_kong_-_bamboo_scaffolding_hy17.jpg oobject 16 impressive examples of bamboo scaffolding I have used bamboo to make antennas with it. Stuff is increadibly stiff. Even small 1/2 diameter very very hard to bend. I would say for its weight and diameter, its stronger then aluminum..which most bikes are made of. Why Bamboo?

Never in my life have I seen it at 104F or 40c in vancouver. It lasted almost a entire week. The high for this part of the world is 98F and that may last a day or two in august. A few years ago, vancouver and British Columbia broke out of a 4 year drought record. Entire north shore mountains were closed to the public and the Okanagan was on fire! Our bark beetles that have a varicose appetite for western pine beetles, were surviving the winters. Normally, 80% of them die off when temps are below -30C in the interior for a week. Well, that has not happened in the last seven years. As a result, they flourished and multiplied to the point, thay wiped out 1/3 or more of our harvestable timber. Now marine scientist are finding dead humbolt squid on the west coast of Vancouver island. Those squid, are normally native to Mexico. Yes the world is changing and we are feeling the effects!

Find medium to large rear projection tv's. Then take out the Fresnel lenses in the front. The heat that those lenses concentrate at are intense. Use welding goggles or sunglasses when focusing the beam on a object the light is intense enough to make a mini stirling engine run.

BME - Brano Meres okay, now this is crazy. mountain bike is mostly organic.

Well, there are different kinds. I have built up 4,6,8 cylinder engines. Installed jet engines when I was in the service. To work on engines, you would obviously need access to a garage or yard that has a shed :) My suggestion is to look at steam engines. Very simple to work on. Take a look at you tube under lister diesel engine. Very simple engine old, and I am sure very reliable. Also, are you still in high school? You could ask to enter into automotive class. I remember this was the very first time I ever worked on a car then. Instructor was nice enough to make me the TA for the class :) YouTube - POWERLINE (LISTER) ENGINE YouTube - Sterling Dish 500MW solar power plant YouTube - Solar Steam Turbine with Parabolic Solar Dish Collector

First of all, if you cannot repair, fix build or do anything other then "Buy" the product, you have become "Owned". What I mean is, you have to DEPEND on other people for your lifestyle when you live in a condo, or rent. If you become unemployed, you are going to possibly suffer more financially then some one who owns there own home and property. Those that do, have a place to repair there car. Make there own furniture. Raise chickens for there own eggs etc. You get the point. I used to live that lifestyle as a teen. We did not have chickens or farm animals but, we did have 3/4 acre of property with a good sized house on it. The unfortunate thing was, we lost it to the recession in the the 80s. IF only had I had a good job as a teen then, ask to be a part of the house ownership and pay into the mortgage would I still live there today. Acquiring a skill that makes you be self dependent helps to cut cost down. Manufacturing something that "cannot be imported" is all the better and, your mfg business is being federally taxed, meaning, the tax dollars stay in the country. With 80% of today's Manufactures going overseas, the US Goverment possibly lost 80% of its taxable revenue from lost manufacturing companies going over seas.

He had to be held back a year. I have not thought of that time in decades so, my brother needed to go again in another year. I guess if he did not miss a year, he would graduate from high school one year after me. One of the reasons why the education system here in BC is perhaps better then the states, the school system here does not have PE. It does not have foot ball games or other scholastic competitions against other schools. This gives the students more time for academics. Also, there are far more schools here per Kilometer then where I grewup in the Tacoma WA area. Just in my area alone, There is three schools all within 1/2 km. This may contribute to a smaller class size and thus, more attention to the students. There is no busse's to deliver the students to schools. Kids either walk, or parents take them to school. I do not know if this is all the same thought the province. I think walking to there school might be there PE equivalent of getting in shape :) The only downside with the no buss issue, is the parents line up on the road trying to get into the parking lot to drop off there kids. It causes whole kind of problems with cars backing up traffic.

Vort, Why do you want to know? are you interested in going self reliant, off the power grid? It has been my interest for a long time. Do you want to power a generator from a steam driven stove? Stirling engines are only used for power by one company in Arizona and the solar concentrators are as big as a house to power the 5kw sterline engine/generator. Lots of vidios on youtube on these technologies. Most of the USA does not manufacture anymore as sad as it sounds. We have become a country of consumers that depend on the evil empire "communist china" for our goods. Basically, the US is building up china's military!
