  1. I elected to attend the info session to habitat for humanity. I want to get my house construction skills up to snuff so I can do home renovations AFTER I purchace the fixer properties It also looks good on the resume. Has anyone volunteered for this organization? Can you use them as a referance? What was the overall outcome of working for HFH ?
  2. It will happen when oil becomes in serious short supply
  3. TRaveler, If I had won the money, I can guarantee after paying off my wife's debt, it would grow again. she has the propensity to use credit cards alot :\. Probably send her to credit counseling. Anyway, Pay off debt, INVEST the money in a house and harvistable land and be self reliant with solar, wind, geothermal energy. Have emergency food supply.
  4. My truck is partially impervious to any EMP attack. If that is if, I can get it started with starter and ignition switch only, it can run with no electrical power. It is a old 1980s Toyota diesel land cruiser. It is so simple, all I need to do to power it off is to go underneath the hood and push the lever on the injection pump off to kill it. I can run the engine with no electrical power at all. Now, yes, EMP attack is a very real threat to society. I feel that storing food away from the cities in a bunker that is hidden is possibly the best way to survive with out having to fend off attacks from looters. I have my ham radio license in the states, but not here in Canada. I should have at least one Tube ham radio because, it would be impervious at least, to the EMP attack. Tube radios use high voltage to run. Hi voltage EMP wave would not affect it.
  5. Saw this on abc news. Seems survivors, that is spouses of 911 have had the spirits of deceased loved ones visit them. What do you think? 9/11 Widows Say Deceased September 11 Relatives Communicate From Grave - ABC News
  6. any of you know c or c++ I am learning it and would like tips on how to interface with serial or usb devices.
  7. or, G, she has cleavage and is so propped up, the top looks like a giggly table. Saw that the other day and I said mmm she looks worse then if she had hid it all.
  8. What does it take to become dis-fellowshiped?
  9. I don't know about this. I have giving small change to homeless who look like they deserved it. But also, gave money to a native Indian outside of a donut dhop, he went in, looked a the menu for 2 seconds and walked out of the store. Kinda lost my faith in the homeless at that point in that period of time.
  10. my lds niece is snooty! We crossed paths in a groshrie store and while two lds members crossed in front of me, I said hi to both. One smiled and said hello :) The other, my niece, briefly looked at me, said mm without opening her mouth and continued to walk on without looking back. What a snot! She is as tall as me so her behavior needs adjusting! BTW, she is in my ward.
  11. I think if you were true-full all the time, no one would like you because you would be to blunt and honest how you feel about them all the time Woman, especially my wife, gets very emotional alot of the time so there are some things she does not need to know. I always say, unless its necessary that the other spouse needs to know something, don,t volunteer it if you know the outcome will drive you crazy for no reason.
  12. wow, both of you are so young and a whole life a head of you. Sorry to hear what happened. With time, your feelings for her will fade and you now, can find a better quality wife :) Some woman just litterly unravel at the seams and can no long be married and move one..like my mom. Anyway, best of luck. Be friends. Maybe this guy will turn out to be a creep and she will regret divorcing you?
  13. Look at it this way, If you jumped his car, and he drives off and kills a familly of four, you could become liable if you knew he was drunk and rendering assistance to get his car started. I would have just made it simple and called the police.
  14. Canada??? I live here :) BTW, I find the people here are nice in BC and more friendly and outgoing. Reminds me of what life was like in the early 70s when the family had more time to be together and visit extended family members. I am taking some classes here at night with the students half my age. Its really interesting to see pretty much everyone get along with everyone very well. The teens and early 20 year olds are very mellow and nice. Not sure about the morality issue :) But because the BC government had tight control on regulating banks and other services, we did not Feel the Sting of the US initial stages of a stock market collapse. I think Greed, selfishness and power play a huge role in immorality and it has precipitated in almost every fabric of society.
  15. I am not going to comment. I have seen it all. Time for other people to say something. Cafferty File: Tell Jack how you really feel Blog Archive - What's behind precipitous decline in America'sÂ*morality? « - CNN.com Blogs
  16. I am wondering if government has also over stepped its boundaries in how we can be self sufficient. Take for example the Canadian government. A person who owns land I think in the interior set up a simple micro hydro dam just to supply electricity to his cabin. Government agent said it needs to be taken down "cannot recall the reason" and he would need to bring in a generator. He protested big time because that's money out of his pocket. I do not think ordinary Americans or Canadians should need to pay more out of there pockets just so the government can pay for wasteful projects "think 2010 Olympics" BC liberals are trying to place a new tax burden on us and we are fed up with it. Living to be self sustaining means to litterly depend on your self without outside help. This means a source of food such as a farm, source of fuel "bio generation plant" from pig and cow waste or veggies. Often, these cannot be done in the big city. I see condos here that are so tiny, that you cannot store anything in them. this is not self sufficiency! This is short term survival! There was a article in our newspaper that showed people would would be willing to loan there land, if some one grew veggies on it and take there share. Good cooperative method of having a garden without owning the land!
  17. mormonmusic, I understand where you come from. good for you to be there at the right time and quickly evaluate the situation. Unfortunately, its often to late for a lot of other kids that are taken.
  18. I have had them before. Wife was a witness to it. But for the small events in our life, ive had plenty. I had one, in which it saved my life and my moms, or the driver we almost hit and killed. But because of my vision, we all did not hit each other at the intersection with the blind spot. This time around, had a gut feeling experience my truck was going to be broken into based on where it was parked. Why did I not listen to my self? I have had my truck for five years and not one single incident of a break in but for some reason, I looked behind my truck, and spread a frown across my face as if something was going to happen, then ignore it. Sure enough, got a call over the night class intercom to come to main desk. Truck was broken into and tools stolen. Well what can we say, its just that bad feeling something was about to happen and did not stop to think twice do do something about it. At least it was some tools. Could have been worse. Havn't had any per say visions of major quakes since Dec 23 2004 so glad that's not on my mind. Some day I will leave this earth. Don't know when but there were plenty of opportunities that could have happened "been in seven close calls of getting killed" But its not my time. I'm now in my 40s. My has time gone by! BTW, hope you all are enjoying your summer Im still looking for work. Has not been good for me and my wife financially. Almost tempted to move away for a period just to support her.
  19. I thought this was a interesting article written by cnn. Seems the amish have a general failure rate of 5% when the averable business failure rate of 50% for us businesses. Mabey business can learn form them? anyone have stats for LDS sucesses rates? Why Amish businesses don't fail - May. 4, 2010
  20. He came to British Columbia for the youth culture dance and also to dedicate the temple here. I think there was approximately 2,000-2,500 people at the Langley convention center if that's what its called. Surprisingly, President Monson has a bit of a sense of humor and a bit of a ham unlike his Serious speeches which he makes :) Was anyone here at the youth ceremony dance? It was pretty neet. showed kids and I mean alot of youth dressed up in cloths from different erras from the 1800s to the 1960s doing there dances including native Indian dances with Heida outfits on. If anyone video recorded it I would like to see it. KSL TV Camera operator was there to record it.
  21. I wonder if people are so attached to technology, they don't even consider it a second though to "unplug" for a day. BTW, whats ironic about this idea, I one asked a teacher of 30 years, what did the smartest students in school have in common. He said that thay did not have TVs in the house and one student, did not have any computers in the house. Guess that media technoligy is possible the source of our wasteful ways if we spend to much vegging in front of the tv instead of studying :)
  22. Well, this was a strange case of loosing our power...ALL OF IT, because I changed a outlet! We are upgrading our outlets from dingy yellow stained ones to nice white new ones. We had no power for two hours and it was erily silent. Not that its the first time but thought, why not do this more often? me and my wife spend a chunck of our time away from each other doing something on the tv, the computer or what not! No power means no distractions from each other. Anyone ever just "turn off everything" and spend time together with NO technoligy to interupt for a entire evening? BTW, the main circuit breaker at the meter head was tripped, and it was reset to give us power again. The new electrical power outlet did not have its bridge removed, causing over current usage. We use alot of power here. Thanks
  23. The very first time I was scammed was when I was serving in the USAF. I was on base, in my dormitory when I got a call on a pay phone. I answered it and a DJ from a radio station said that I won a trip to Hawaii. The only thing I had to do, was pay for the other ticket. Well, I was young and ignorant and kinda believed it. I was thinking, well darn, this is a military installation, this guy would not be scamming me if he knew of our presences here. So I asked the guy to come to our dorm. As soon as I met him, he had bad teeth and bad complexion and wondered to my self, is this guy for real? He showed me the tickets and they did look real. I bought his story and purchased the tickets. There is one thing criminals HATE, one is taking your time to check out there story!! Time is their enemy and will run if it looks like they will get caught. Also, a FAST talker is a BIG warning sign! I always say, a person that doubles is speech rate is because half of what he is saying is lies and fraud.
  24. I occasionally swear but its due to something heavy falling on my foot, or something extremely important I forgot to do, but utter it quickly without thinking. What bothers me is in society, kids use the words with every other word in a discussion. That's what bothers me the most that I AM there listening to it! I once met a girl of a fiend who had a truckers mouth and bad attitude. Well I was not impressed and decided, some one else was better for me to consider dating. Now, there was a sweet woman in highshcool which I should have dated but was more of a friend. Never did see her again, or in class reunion.
  25. For most of you young folks, this is something you may not know about but, it would be to your advantage to know. I have been a victim of scams in the past. Sold a car to a fast talker only to find out tow company was charging me for the tow fee. Sold the car, he never registered it! Anyway, for your older people, ever found you were a victim of dishonest, imoral people with question-ability of there character? In these days, promissory words don't have much weight anymore. There are courses that can detect personality profiling and want to know, what are your experiences dealing with these people?
