  1. Lots of history both good and bad about the church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Seems Palestinians mostly live in the area. If you have not seen pictures of the supposed birthplace is, its interesting. Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem Also, I think it would be very interesting to spend time with a host family from each country. There are a couple very nice video examples of this on youtube.
  2. The best one is one made by my grandmother. Wow is all I can say, looked like a tree with purple quarts leaves. My Grandfather made my Grandmother a table made if rare hard to find agates, amethyst and minerals. They were laid in a cast and clear acrylic was poured over the top of the minerals. The final layout looks like a dear head. I am the third person in the family to inherent it the table. Did the idea of giving out Christmas gifts by Saint Nick to children or did it originate with the kings giving gifts to baby Jesus?
  3. My brother is hosting Christmas at his place this year. While that is fine, what he is asking everyone to do is not. He is asking everyone to give one person, assigned to them a name, which they will buy them a gift cards. I can see the event last no longer then 10 minutes. To me, that does not sound like a personal way to express gratitude to some one in the form of a gift. While some times, the gift may not always meet the taste of the person "clothing is a good example" it does show a sense of surprise. Example would be , I emailed my sister-in law and wanted to borrow her rock tumbler. She has not gotten back to me. The idea was to tumble some agates that I spent several days looking for on the sands of the Oregon coast. I would tumble them, then when they were nice and shinny, I would make small holes in them and turn them into bracelets. I would give them as gifts to my Nieces. I still to this day, have customer made items from mom and grandmother from the 1970s. BTW, I am not to thrilled the way companies are to commercializing Christmas.
  4. If that trailer ever come loose, it can kill a whole family. A trailer not as large as that one was, became disconnected from the hitch of a truck and the chains I suspect, were never connected. It went strait into oncoming traffic on the other side of the highway and took out a suv. Only thing left was body parts on the highway. Dd you get that picture off the internet? he should have been cited, and both truck and trailer towed away.
  5. Shedding is something you want to avoid but, it has its positives if the dog is loyal and loving. We have a unusally quit sheltie when he is inside. We can purpously get him excited and he does bark..but as I states "purpously" by playing with him in a way. He was quiet pup in the little and very calm and walked up to us when the others were totally ignoring us. suprisingly, he did his first trick at nine weeks old so we picked him. Other dogs you want loyalty so they do not take off. there are dog breed charts online that shows all the traits you can read. I like huskies most for there markings and personality but they are diggers and also, have a tendacy to eat everything. Ever try and pull a sock out of a dogs butt? :)
  6. They have a reflective surface to reflect IR heat. I imagine there is one that exist for every day use. I can tollerate cold tempatures as low as freezing in a t-shift if I am working outside "I know you think I am nuts" but I am a exothermic type of person :) Thermal blankets or wool work great if she does not itch from it.
  7. mirkwood are you a officer? I got in a little argument with the wife the other day "not unusal" she said "do the speed limit" I said well the ground is wet, and the limit was only designed for dry roads. Wet, fog or snow, you drive under. Anyway, I pretty much do the limit. I see the jack #$$ drive way to fast ride your rear then get caught :) Its unsafe and generally they always get in accidents. Once, a corvetee went flying down a off ramp sped way to fast around the corner of the highway. It went up the bank and went airborn upside down and landed on top of another car in the apposing lanes. I been tempted to make a bumper sticker that says "Want to race? Race you to the Grave!"
  8. I can imagine the students and teachers where shocked if, she told them the convicted drunk driver was standing next to her.
  9. I have heard of stories like this, but this is different. Not only did she forgive him, she ask that his sentence be cut in half. Then, she went on the road with him to attend schools to tell students to never ever drink and drive. Imagine the reaction of the students when they see both the mother, and the convicted drunk driver standing side by side. 10. There was a similar post by a forum member. He was in bend oregon. Some woman came up to him and was asking some odd questions about his 4x4 and she was blunt and to the point. He said she looked a bit rough, then notices about 6 other guys standing near by. He felt threatened and for good reason. Others in the forum suspected they were drug dealers who ran a meth lab. It was discussed that maybe they wanted to steel the 4x4 from him for the transportation of drugs from labs in the mountains.
  11. I remember seeing a cartoon of a massive black hand coming out of the clouds and it was ready to flick a KKK leader off a hill top while doing his speech. I had a good laugh when I saw that cartoon. Then wondered what if he and Jesus was dark skinned? It does not matter.
  12. I can tell when some people just will not fit a position very long based on there personality. Even if it is voluntary. Two people quit the complex secretary position as soon as they were elected. Its time consuming and can be a little demanding. My wife did well at it because she is detail orientated and gets the job done. Downside was the personal time it took her away from me after her work. BTW, if you loose a job, there is perhaps something better down the road. I was to busy chasing other companies for job positions and wondered why I was not getting job offers but, it was partly because, this industry is subcontracted out. I have now subcontracted out with two companies for a number of years now. I like the freedom of being my own boss and doing a excellent job for every one of them. My last position of full time employment were either to demanding "I let it be that way" and putting in 60 hours a week and nearly killed my self driving for 10 hours a day. or the companies were to disorganized and ridged and boring. That type of employment I do not care for. I have even worked for companies that I did 100% of my effort and got canned on the spot because some supervisor was a power trip, and totally misunderstood what I was doing two minutes before clock out time and told the line supervisor. That one situation makes me bitter and angry because he was wrong but I just brush it off its in the past.
  13. backroads, its her not you. I know what it is like to be around people like that. We have one that lives in our complex and she complains why she cannot get a job..I wonder why. She is to busy creating enemies around here.
  14. the word shame and lack of respect have been lacking in teens for a long time. This other video is also a classic. Love it and the daughter is still defiant :) daughters response THE ORIGINAL Daughter Responds To Father Shooting her laptop - YouTube In japan, teens never go this far to disrespect there parents or shame them. Its inbred in there culture. This is partly why Japanese cars are built so well because the engineers are shamed if they fail during test.
  15. My brother says it some times and so do I. It means "Okay what is going on here..this makes no sense" :)
  16. We have had lots of cats. Never really thought of dropping back first to see if it landed on its feet.
  17. Well I would say if you can make something that the receiving party would like go for it. Mom made my a piggy back when I was mm 3-4 years old. I still have it :) Grandmother gave me a mineral rock box where each piece was glued down to each area and the type of rock it was. Still own it and showed her the box 35 years later and she was shocked :) This year, brother suggested gift certificates that everyone give everyone else. Not the same as a personal gift.
  18. Just a real caution of having a fir tree in the house. A fir tree is highly flammable. If it is left to dry, and catches fire, you have less then two minutes to exit the house. I think there is possibly a fire retardant spray you can put on a live tree but unsure. Make sure, the Christmas lights are off if you are not near the tree. You can type in Christmas tree fire on you-tube
  19. I once remember seeing a cartoon where a black hand of God reached out of the clouds and with his index finger held back by his thumb, was ready to flick the body of the KKK standing on a hill into the next county. So, does this mean god and Jesus are white or black? does it really matter? But a few years ago, Forensics used evidence of skeletons in the region where he stayed, and best guessed, was conceived a image of what he may have looked like. Found the link from Popular Science. The Real Face Of Jesus - What Did Jesus Look Like? - Popular Mechanics Looks like some one beat me to it.
  20. Some kids are just out of control. Hopefully this makes a example of this kid so she learns some responsibility. Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com
  21. I am originally from the pacific NW. Immigrated up here about 11 years ago. I thought people would think this is funny. I laughed when I heard this :) Step dad is a bit of a Character he was the original band manager for the Kingsman artist group who Sang the song Lui Lui in the 1960s.
  22. This is a true story that my step dad told me. One day, he was in Olympia Washington, our capital, and two older ladies came up to him and asked him "sir, where is the White House" He said "The White House??" They said yes. He said , with his hand point east, "That way 3,000 miles" :)
  23. There is a program in Portland that houses the homeless. The reason is simple, statistics show that a homeless person is far cheaper to house, then one who is homeless and is more then likely to be incarcerated or be hospitalized. So far the program is working. Also, one of our members used to own United Furniture Warehouse. He always advertised on the front page of the Vancouver Sun news paper. He sold his business due to divorce and now has a company called Welcome Home. It is a chain of stores and the profits are used to help alcoholics to recover and he hires them in his stores. He has been interviewed on the news and newspaper for his business model. As for working pay check to pay check, its more expensive here and the debt has risen per house hold in Canada to near unsustainable levels "last I read" we have a large homeless population downtown. Vancouver is a notch or two in Consumer Price Index below New York New York in which to live. Now if it was not for my wife's income, I would be homeless. Working for your self is more risky but this year, has been better then last year.
  24. I had a good laugh with the tennis balls :)
