  1. I have no problem with his asking the questions. I much rather someone ask me what I believe than "research" it on the internet or ask someone who doesn't know.
  2. I've explained this before as we believe that everyone was created by Heavenly Father and thus His child, including Satan or Lucifer. However, when Lucifer rebelled and was cast out by God, Satan gave up his "right" to be called my brother or the brother of Jesus. He is our enemy as he wants to prevent us from coming to Jesus.
  3. I actually think it's a great idea! to ask others of their beliefs. As previously said, we ask that you ask questions respectfully. I've attended other churches and felt that I was very respectful. I was able to learn alot and I was always felt so welcome. I love learning new things. I hope in your search you take the time to attend Sunday Services at some point. If you feel comfortable, you can post your city and perhaps someone would be willing to meet you and attend services with you.
  4. Ewoyn, when I was in the YW presidency in my ward (2 times), we had a hygiene night for our girls--mainly the Beehives and Mia Maids. We discussed things such as deodorant, tampons, pads (and disposing of them), makeup, bathing, shampoo, brush hair, shaving legs, etc. We found that sometimes they just won't listen to mom, but get their YW leaders involved and for some reason we knew what we were talking about. We had a hair dresser and Mary Kay consultant in the ward, so we made it really fun. I know that a couple of the girls took our advice to heart as the 2 came up to us individually to ask additional questions. Oh what fun that was when she asked me to show her how to insert a tampon.... If your Faith in God Leader or YW leaders are considered "cool" by the girls, see if they would feel comfortable having clean night or something. You can find a fun and creative theme. If we are talking boys, well, I don't have much experience with them. Maybe have dad have a man to man talk with him--or get someone from the ward to speak to him more privately. I'm not sure how the same thing would go over for the boys.
  5. Hmmm, according to Merriam Webster, ratify means: to approve and sanction formally I think the best way to approve formally is to become a member of the church. Where do you live so we can have missionaries swing by to talk to you about baptism?
  6. I tried to watch that the first season it appeared. There were 2 scenes in what I think was the 2nd episode that finally made me say no more--one was of a man...um....enjoying himself. And the other was of a woman enjoying herself. I was absolutely shocked....no nudity shown, but there was NO QUESTION what they were doing.
  7. Can anyone recall someone in the scriptures asking for trials? The only one that comes to mind (and it isn't a perfect example) was Job. I'm with you on this, Vort. I remember that talk as well and felt spiritually immature because I couldn't imagine (and still can't) ever asking God to bring it on. It almost smacks of pride. But then I think that I must be thinking wrong because I don't believe that any of the apostles are prideful.

    Bummed...

Could you get a hotel/motel room?
  9. Do you have a teen at church you can trust and ask? Seriously, we are all fuddy duddies on this site and knowing what is popular with the teens (if that is your goal) isn't going to be gained here. If you have a mixed group, then mix it up. Play some 70's, 80's, 90's and current. And I agree to get some Halloween songs--Monster Mash, Nightmare on my Street, Down at Wooley's Swamp (old country song), Thriller, any song by Miley Cyrus counts as a scary song. Otherwise, I vote that you totally bomb this so you don't get asked again. LOL!
  10. My personal opinion is if it actually contains coffee (and some do) then, yes, it's against the WoW. If the taste is a chemical concoction, then I can see where it wouldn't be against the WoW. But, again, if the chemical concoction contains coffee extraction, then I would consider that as containing coffee. I just tend to be overly cautious and avoid anything that has coffee flavor. I don't always want to inspect the ingredients to find out if it has coffee or not. Plus, I don't like coffee flavor.
  11. Wait...what? This article cleared up what? You had a weird experience at the MTC which is completely unrelated to missionaries receiving medical care, so it validates the article? HUH???
  12. We saw this movie this past weekend. We both liked it very much. My very science minded husband loved it and actually wants to own it.
  13. I'm having a really difficult time believing that there are men who actually leave their wife for not having intercourse during the 6-8 weeks after she gives birth. There's a medical reason for it--it isn't as if she is refusing him for a stupid reason. If he is that hard up for sex, then he needs to see what he needs to change because he won't die or explode without sex for 6 weeks.. And, yes, there are other ways to have sexual intimacy between a couple.
  14. I think the "blind faith" and "sheeple" are used interchangeably. My faith isn't blind and I'm happy to be called a sheep of Jesus. I chose to have faith. I have doubts and I have questions, but I choose to have faith and continue to investigate those doubts and questions. That isn't blind. And if I seem to fall in line with all the other people of faith, that's fine with me. As I said, I am a sheep of Jesus and I hear His voice.
  15. Becca, read Alma 11 and 12 where it talks about people being saved "in their sins" and goes into more details.
  16. This is my stake president. He was invited to speak at a local Methodist church. Here is their recording of that talk. It's about 30 min long and I felt it was a good summary of what Mormons believe. This was done a couple of weeks ago, which was after the Indianapolis Temple dedication and before the recent General Conference. http://zumc.org/index.php/online-media/video/259-church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints.html
  17. But, there's other ways to help people besides give them money on the street. I'm not disparaging anyone who wants and does give to beggers on the street. But, I personally choose to help people in other ways besides give money to those on the street.
  18. Oh, and TFP--to post on that fridge, I would have to begin anything with "I know". LOL!
  19. I liked the ponderize talk too. I felt the Spirit whisper to me that I should do this. I'll take some time tonight to come up with tangible steps to do this in my life.
  20. As a missionary, you are going to be too busy and have a small budget. You are not going to be able to maintain a hairstyle that needs an update every month. Also, you don't want a style that you will need lots of time in the day to keep up--that means, you don't want to worry about spending 30 min on your hair just to make it out of the door. I suggest you talk to your stylist now and make the changes now so you can be used to it.
  21. I don't think it's the "lying" that may condemn this man, but his attitude of not repenting. I think as we mature in the Gospel of Christ, repenting becomes a way of life, a way of becoming like Christ. It isn't a checklist--I lied about x, so I repent of that. But, repenting is wanting and doing better than yesterday.
  22. It's from an old Marty Robbins country music song. I thought that was what you were talking about since you quoted the song almost word for word. LOL!
