  1. Um... how reliable is this George Laub? And has anyone ELSE recorded the assertion that Zion was in 'low orbit', thus provoking the Tower of Babel?
  2. Welcome! Do you know why all the trees in Utah lean to the north?
  3. What to expect: She'll likely be trying all sorts of new casserole recipesShe'll be making green jello with carrot shavings
  4. D&C 64:10 I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men [and women]. Now I don't mean this in the rude manner that it will sound, so please think on this and avoid taking offense: Do you 'deserve better' than her just because YOUR list of mistakes and misdeeds are a slightly different list than hers?
  5. Ultimately, this can only be determined by defining how you perceive things as 'working'. What is your ultimate goal? Is it: have my children grounded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Is it: successfully balance multiple beliefs in our home so there's always peace and love? Etc. Without knowing what your goal really is, it's extremely difficult to predict your chances for success. I will say with complete conviction, however, that the more differing the beliefs and goals are in a marriage, the more difficult it is to grow, develop, and progress in harmony.
  6. The advice given is sufficient. On a personal note, however, I would encourage you to NOT allow Satan to completely demoralize you and convince you that you're less than you are. Self worth is crucial to being successfully obedient and faithful. So recognize that you goofed up, take it serious... but don't let it tear you down.
  7. I have absolutely no idea what are the motives of PastorBob in starting this thread (though I sense some hostility towards him in the responses), but the Wikipedia text isn't too bad - excepting, of course, the aged and anemic arguments against Mormonism and Joseph Smith in the "Analysis and criticism of the Kolob doctrine" section. I have quotes from Brigham, Orson Hyde, Joseph Fielding, and Brother Joseph that indicate much of what was detailed on that page. But, where were you really going with this, PastorBob?
  8. What are you getting at, exactly?
  9. Well, I guess y'all are some of the lesser intelligences Abraham saw, because it worked for me.
  10. Welcome! (Watch out for the crazies. )
  11. Interesting thought, though I have a couple of ideas to tweak it: First, they were not middle class. The sacrifice performed for Christ's birth was the poor option: the double-birdie. Had Joseph and Mary been able to perform the 'better' sacrifice for the very Son of God, they would have. Second, they remained in Nazareth to raise Jesus until told to flee to Egypt - and that would certainly go along with what you're suggesting...
  12. Well, that says it all, now doesn't it? Welcome, mighty arbiter.
  13. You sure are fiesty. You're insisting that your interpretation of MY words is the way this is to be played out... but then take exception to my interpretation of the author's work. Hmmm... And if you'd bothered to finish my quote, a referenced the fact that this statement COMING AFTER ALL HIS OTHER MATERIAL is what I "took umbridge" with. Why is it that YOU are taking umbridge with the fact that I didn't just post another "great article" at the end of this thread? Why is it that I am judgmental FOR HAVING AN OPINION? Why is it that the fact that I see this article from a different paradigm than you do - is somehow offensive to you or grounds for debate? Are you having a tough winter in Nebraska? I know how bitter and dreary they can be, but still... :) Sure sounds like YOU are the one who's intolerant of other's opinions. Post after post your countering others' thoughts and ideas. Did you write this article, or something? I'm not at all looking to fight, but I'm not gonna roll over, either.
  14. Ya think? I was referencing his feeble apologetics. Weird, because you seem to have missed the point of my post. Revelation 3:15-16.
  15. If God's glory is His power (also Skousen - attributed to John A. Widtsoe), and this is what Satan sought - sounds like a straight-up power grab to me. A get-rich-quick agenda, if you will. Bypass the testing and trials and place yourself at the top of the heap... Doesn't sound terribly loving to me...
  16. Pssshhhht. Wouldn't have even guessed the author was LDS until the last paragraph. While standing alone, this sounds like a logical statement, cushioned within the author's rhetoric I sense an apologetic tone for the fact that the church (on occasion) stands up and calls a spade a spade when it comes to this world's ever-devolving moral behavior. Though outsiders cannot comprehend it, the Church is not in a popularity contest. And, though it certainly doesn't set out to alienate or offend ANYONE - it is also completely unapologetic in its unequivocal declarations of Truth - which is EXACTLY as it should be.
  17. The Roman world did no such thing for the collection of taxes. This was longstanding Jewish tradition to which Rome acquiesced to minimize the boat-rocking.
  18. What a great post. That's wonderful to hear. (Not so much the personal struggles - that's no fun... but your faith-promoting experiences are exquisite.) I wish you the best of luck with leveling things out in your life and then being able to move forwards. God lives, and He loves us all. He wants only the very best for us - and He has brought you right to the base of a mountain of knowledge, experience, opportunity, growth, development, and - most of all - lasting joy. I sincerely hope you'll find the desire and capacity to make the climb. :)
  19. Your worried NOW? You know how high the promotion rate is from Executive Secretary to Bishopric member? You just wait.
  20. Hinckley, 1998: I don't want to be an alarmist, but it's time we get our homes in order.
