  1. oh picnic sounds fun! and we can watch all the good people go flying up. Need to pick a populated area for that. hmm
  2. I am so glad Lost finished up its seasons first! ^^
  3. Some other word ought to be used. It is annoying to be called homophobic when they dont really scare me at all. Maybe they are scared of me?
  4. We need to go back to the word understand. Do you feel that those who are more gifted intellectually are required to prove their faith by deep investigation of gospel principles? This is how those will be judged? I must have gotten hung up on the idea that faith had nothing to do with intelligence but more with a persons spiritual state. We never learn one little iota of faith by deep investigation. We learn faith by prayer and desire. Study is more for knowledge but is not required for salvation no matter how smart or dumb we are. Christ said for us to be as the little children. Isnt this what He meant? We make correct choices by faith, not by deep study. If not then correct choices mean nothing. I doubt very much God has a tail. We dont so why would He? Its interesting to wonder if there is a reason to polygamy as related to God. Maybe when He was mortal his first wife died and He remarried. Maybe polygamy was practiced then. What exactly would prevent Him from having more than one wife? I am not fond of polygamy but on the other hand wouldnt mind someone who loved to clean house around. j/k Still its not something I would want to do but I am not everyone and in our culture it has been looked down on from before I was born so didnt grow up thinking it was fine.
  5. I wish but sadly doubt it will happen. Still we can hope :)
  6. A lot of those are on my never want to read books too! It is really puzzling who they got the list from. My 'favorite books' just doesnt sound right unless its literature teachers they asked who felt obligated to list what they thought were the great books! If it were asked of the general public I have a strong feeling there would be more authors off the best sellers lists such as James Patterson and Nora Roberts. (both of whom, I do like to read)
  7. wow I am impressed. Very well said. Much to think about and said is such an easy to understand way. :)
  8. Well its painful to cheer someones death but I am not sad to see this happen. Too bad his body wasnt dumped in the ocean.
  9. You can do more in Idaho without it killing you. Or maybe I should say someone killing you. In cities you really have to watch them ever second. Not so much out on a farm.
  10. Why do you not believe this is a real family that we bear and raise here? It seems pretty real to me. We have progressed since we came here. We not only have a spiritual family we have a physical family. Both are important but we had part in creating the later. We are all part of the spiritual family. but this physical family is so important that we do huge amounts of family research and temple work to connect our family together. Why dont we just gather names and do the temple work indiscriminately if its not important to have the family relationships? Why are we responsible for our family lines and not just every name we come across? It would be lots easier if we just did them all as we found them. Why is it important to have family units here? If it werent then there would be no point to chastity in and out of marriage. In fact marriage would be unimportant. Why bother if it doesn't matter who is in each family? Chastity is important for a big reason. Children are to be born in a family unit. Why do we emphasize that so much if family is just a mortal thing?
  11. As the church becomes more involved with disaster relief it is surely more clear what is needed and what isnt needed. It was probably about time to examine and revise the suggestions.
  12. Zoos wouldnt have allowed them to breed to 49 either. If I had 49 wild animals that were breeding uncontrollably.................... yikes.
  13. You have to believe what you believe. Your life is yours and mine is mine. I am not asking you to write a thesis on the subject any more than I expect you dont want me to do that. I do not recall saying no one should study anything out. Nevertheless let me explain it this way. Everyone here on this earth has certain things to learn. Gospel principles for instance. Now if gospel principles are things that we need to learn, then does it make sense that it should be hard to understand? Should we have to have a college degree in Gospel Studies? Why do you suppose we are baptized at 8 years of age? I can not believe for a minute that children that age can understand the intricate details of gospel principles, with the history and all the teachings about it. They can understand the basics of the gospel. Hope, Faith, Repentance, Baptism, and the Gift of the Holy Ghost. (I just know I forgot some :) ) If we know those things then dont the rest fall in place? Or do we need to reintroduce each principle every time we read new history information? I believe that every person, who can be held accountable, not just the intellectually gifted, should be able to understand the gospel. Otherwise that is just not fair. It really is simple. I cant speak for Mohamed Atta. I have no idea why he did what he did.
  14. I agree to a point mlkbone. I think that our bonds here will supersede the spiritual because it is not only spiritual but physical. My children here were born to me. No way is anyone else more important to me. Not saying others are not important but we have a special bond to our family here.
  15. We over think things too much. If we believe than we believe. Oh I like to read about church history. What I see about polygamy is that Joseph Smith did not want to do it. He knew his wife would not be happy either. It was probably one of the worst trials in his life. He wasnt exactly raised in a household that was one to jump onto the idea of more than one wife. They are religious people and the religious at the time certainly were not fans of polygamy. If we go into history of the church knowing its true then that is what we are going to see. If we dont then we are going to wonder why unpopular things were done. Pretty much how the Community of Christ Church feels. It really is simple.
  16. Yes. My thinking on this subject is done. By me by the way. If I figured it out once why should I go over it again and again? I would have a hard time raping anyone, being a woman, but I imagine God knows that. If God told me to do hard things I would hope I would be like Nephi. He did not want to kill his uncle. In the end he did because it was necessary and he believed that is what God wanted him to do. A great many times we do not know what God has in mind. We do not know why He does what He does. The question is do we trust Him? Do we believe what He tells us? Sometimes the trials are very hard. Remember when Abraham was told to sacrifice his son? No way did he want to do that. Yet he was prepared to do it because God asked him to do it. After God saw his faithfulness He stopped the sacrifice. It was no longer necessary. I hope God never asks me to live in polygamy. I hope He never asks me to kill anyone. Frankly I doubt He will. If He does I pray I am faithful.
  17. hmm yes but We will have our family (blood relationships) too. How can my husband be my husband if we are not a family?
  18. It is that simple. Do we believe in our prophets? Sure not everything they say is doctrine but polygamy very clearly was at that time. It very clearly isnt to be practiced now. If we believe what our prophets told us.
  19. I have not seen the movie "The Lovely Bones". Was it a tear jerker? Asimov is one of my favorites. Such a great classic sf writer. I love the little leadins and followups he does on so many short stories, like in his Complete Works. His autobiography was interesting and humorous in many places. Enjoyable reading! My favorite now is serial killer books by women. Kay Hooper, Iris Johansen etc. I like Clancy and Custler for male writers. Have you noticed how different male and female writers write? I hadnt till I realized almost all my favorite writers are women.
  20. If we do more than say we do not practice it at this time we have a problem. Why should we be embarrassed to do as God tells us to do? We do believe in prophets dont we? Last I saw we do. I know I do.
  21. No we do not practice polygamy in this life now. It has never been revealed to be a wrong practice just a practice we arent to do at this time. If you do not believe we distance ourselves, how we discuss it, from polygamy then keep an eye on the topic, here and other places, for awhile. We really arent distanced from animal sacrifice all that far. The sacrament is very similar in purpose. Both are done in remembrance of the Saviors sacrifices are they not? One future and one past. I dont think we need to discuss polygamy particularly. It does keep coming up though. I kinda thought most forums were about opinions. Yes some opinions are backed by scripture but even those opinions are not doctrine. The scripture is but not the opinion derived from it. Now my opinion on whether God has more than one wife is hmm maybe. He might. He might not. I see no reason He can't be.
  22. I very much liked his Dune series. A little more than a evening read but a very good classic sf book. Classic sf is my favorite. 30's - early 60's. For those wondering about Hubbards Scientology connections, he wrote a short story for sf long ago. In it he described a religion that he later developed into Scientology. He was said to have told several prominent sf writers of the time that it seemed like a money making scheme that would work. Whether that is true or not he did write some really good sf.
  23. I would recommend 'The Lovely Bones'. Its not the usual serial murder mysteries kind of book. Warning though that it is pretty graphic at times but I thought it was an unusual book. Read it and you will know what I mean.
  24. I was talking to a therapist once who told me that it was not true you had to want to change to do it when drugs or alcohol is involved. This was involving a son. He ended up in treatment against his will at first. After he had been there for about four months and was completely dry he finally got it. He told me that even the best program, which he was in, had a 1 in t0 success rate. Now 2.5 years later he is a success so far. He has told me over and over that no one can get off it on their own. Your brother needs help whether he wants it or not. If he is stealing to get drugs then he is in serious trouble already. I would have him in rehab as soon as I could get him there. Good luck and God bless you and him. He is lucky to have a sister who cares enough to ask for help. By the way sounds like your mom and dad are in trouble too. I know about pain. My husband and I are in that. They are not doing your brother any good and they seem to have been doing themselves no good. They at the very least need counseling.
  25. I missed the part where people said these were their favorite. Wow is all I can say. Do these people ever read anything out of literature class?
