  1. I am really good at reflexive umbrage. ^^ It is one of my great talents in life. :)
  2. It seems to me that even people who support 'pro-choice', which I dont, do not actually advocate abortion. Mostly they are saying people should be able to decide on their own. Now I am not going to go to the abortion debate because that is not what the thread is about just wanted to point out that a person might belong, or use, an organization and not support what is the public perception is about them. I am thinking of planned parenthood. I have used some of their services before. Back before pregnancy tests were available for anyone, they were a fast way to determine pregnancy. Maybe that is one reason the question asked for a temple recommend isnt specific.
  3. I hope you are right because I admit it was annoying.
  4. “We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children. ”All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. “In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally. ”The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. “We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan. ”Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. 'Children are an heritage of the Lord' (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations. “The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed. ”We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. “We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society” (Ensign, Nov. 1995, 102). Reread this and you will see that families, plural, are part of the Celestial Kingdom.
  5. Sister-in-Faith, my family will always be my family no matter where we end up. The blessings of a celestial family wont be available to those not in the Celestial Kingdom. Before you give up on your mom just remember that God hasn't. If God hasn't then why should you? The idea that we wont be individual families seems to be getting a lot of play lately. Frankly I have no idea why unless people have been getting into Eastern Religions more. I strongly feel that this is not true. Being with our families is a major backbone of our Church. It frightens me to see it being undermined by speculation of members of the church. In the last days we are told there will be many members of the faith drawn away by false prophets and teachings. Sadly it looks like this is one of those. I dont mean to offend but this is just not right.
  6. I am curious what you mean by someone who does not think deeply. Someone incapable? To me the simplicity of the gospel is sheer elegance. Complicating it may be fun, even interesting but it is the sheer simplicity that is the heart of it's beauty. How can something so important, even our salvation be built on something only 'deep thinkers' can truly appreciate? I am amazed how our Father in Heaven made it pure and simple. Now that took real deep thinking.
  7. I dont like twitter. It seems kind of disembodied. Same with google. Still there is lots to not like about facebook.
  8. There is no information that I know of that says the troops are being discharged. I do know that some are not being reenlisted. More so that usual. Other than that I am guessing we will need to wait and see.
  9. that makes a lot of sense. It wont take him long to get the Melchizedek priesthood so the question may well be moot by then.
  10. Thank you, Dravin. I might have been feeling a little judgmental. Two new people who come here today on their first posts with this subject worded in such a way? No, gays are not going to hell for being gay. No one is going to hell for their weaknesses, and we all have them. We are condemned or exalted for what we do about our weaknesses. Do we just go along with them? Do we work on them to lessen their power in our lives? That is the key. I edited the other post I believe you were referring to.
  11. If a toddler is laying in a gutter, even if they are laughing, they need to be checked and MOVED. There are NO excuses at all.
  12. Actually there is a very active bunch of stupid chain posts on facebook. They are very annoying.
  13. One time in gospel doctrine class we were discussing secret societies. A member of the class raised his hand and said he did not think all secret societies were bad. I have to admit I have always wondered what secret society he belonged to and felt defensive about.
  14. How would we know what is going to happen to him? Dear? God cares about what we do as well as whats in our hearts.
  15. ok it was rude so i edited it out.
  16. or a flat out advertisement. arg
  17. Suzie where do you read that Brigham Young said that only men who had multiple wives would become Gods? Not being critical, just wondering. Nvm. it was from the Journal of Discourses? He was a man of strong opinions wasnt he. :)
  18. Now that should be interesting. I have lots of questions on that myself.
  19. I think that support, affiliate and agree are talking about the practice, in regards to individuals, more than anything.
  20. Pres. Obama wanted assurances that the contractors would be given amnesty but apparently the Iraqs are not willing to do that so I am thinking they will be out as well. They have been turning responsibility over to Iraqs for a long time now. I am not holding out much hope they will do well with it but it is their country and their responsibility so am glad we are getting out.
  21. I couldnt even read the story let alone watch the video. She is in a happy place now but its sad she did not find the love and care she deserved here on this earth. It is beyond my understanding why she did not.
  22. Hi! Glad you found this place. Sometimes I am not so sure we are all like minded but we do have some interesting discussions. :) Hope you enjoy and stay!
  23. Its a dollar bill. If it has 666 on it who cares? When it hts the banks it will be taken out of circulation anyway as being defaced. Snopes.com will tell you if something is a lie and why, no matter what political view is being questioned. If I was convinced that something was true and they said not then I would have to look at it a lot harder. They do give the reasons which is helpful.
  24. post how it turns out!
