  1. Well there is the cup half full and the cup half empty. Most Congressmen dont know much more about the cuts than we do. You think that because we check a box we dont have any idea what we are checking? What it means? What the implications are? I doubt anyone here is that dumb. At least I hope not. Maybe I give too much credit to everyones intelligence? Or maybe its because I think congressmen could come to agreements if they really wanted to. Sadly not enough want it enough. If you think they do then good luck proving it.
  2. Oh pft. If they want to accomplish something that is their job. No where did I say it was easy. You know what? I do like Pollyanna. You know why? Because she got things done. If you start out with a rotten attitude then you will get a rotten return.
  3. lol I love the puppy analogy. Now every time I see someone say that I am going to have to laugh.
  4. I think what we are all really looking for is a news source that agrees with our own opinions, therefore unbiased. Somehow I had misunderstood but now I have it! kidding you guys but it is true though. We do want news that doesnt slant in ways that make us mad. People that agree with us are much more agreeable.
  5. I have always been of the opinion that we should live today as if we live in the millennium now. God never said we can't live in a millennial way. It wont happen overnight so why dont we start doing that now? Get a head start on the life.
  6. True but didnt we all make compromises? I know I did. What I looked at was what we could do without and what we had to do for a decent future then tried to focus on making them fit. A lot of what we can do without are things that we really could use and would make life better but we need to get things on an even keel before we work those kind of things in again. This is what our elected but bought officials dont seem to be able to do. Say you and I were working on the budget. Your draft budget is not going to look like mine. If we sit down and lay out our plans then see what we agree with and put those aside as done. Maybe. Then we look at each part we disagree on. Maybe we can keep some of what the other wants if we modify them a bit. Some we will just have to agree to wait for better times to fund. Some we want badly but the other doesnt. Maybe I can cut a bit on something else I want. (notice I did not say cut a bit on something HE wants) Maybe he can do the same. Now in the end neither of us get our entire wanted plan but we get a workable one. This is what congress is supposed to be doing. Problem is they are all looking at the next election and if they dont promise major funders things they wont get the money to be elected. Another problem is they have lost the desire to compromise because they fear it makes them look weak. Instead they just end up looking bought and stupid and the 98% know it too. So how do we change that?
  7. There will still be sickness and injury. Its not that we will have eternal bodies at that point. If I were there my back might still hurt. I might still have arthritis. My weight isnt going to go down by activity. We will still have trials. So if I still hurt every day to move and I had to live to 100 that might not be so fun after all.
  8. Sounds good to me. Only thing is while a person can always repent, will they if they have no light left? Would they even try? I bet even now God would take satan up on repenting if he was willing to do it, honestly. satan wont because he has no light left in him but that would be cool. Oh one thought. I think its more accurate to say the light is pushed away not taken away? God is always there but we dont chose to see Him kind of idea.
  9. Each news source has its on agenda. Find out what the agenda is then you can see where they want to sway you. BBC is not unbiased at all. I like to read it but its not unbiased. CNN set to international is interesting. Their slant changes if you change that setting. Fox news will never be the least biased. It does however have faster news and it gives more military news. If you stick to Shepard he keeps it fairly unbiased but human. Msnbc will give you social issues and more emotional news. I do not like their wanting to know how a person feels about their baby being beheaded kind of interviewing at all. Still I want to hear about how the social programs are doing. CNN is kinda boring a lot of the times but that makes me think they are probably trying to be less biased. They do carry more news about religion and have people trying to explain what the church really believes. I give them lots of credit for that even if they dont always get it quite right. Of course there is always Deseret News which I go to a lot. Mostly because they cover issues I am going to be interested in. There is political bias there but I have seen it go both ways.
  10. I am actually quite excited to see you guys try this out. Now I have a suggestion. Try to do it as if you were on the other end of the political spectrum. Say you are conservative, see if you can balance it out as a liberal and if you are liberal try it out as a conservative. I was pretty impressed to see that you CAN balance the budget and still be a human being. On mine I gave the soldiers their benefits and even looked up stuff I didnt know to see exactly what they were. I increased taxes like on gas. I did not reduce SS, education or health spending. Probably the main income increasing I did was by not re Oking tax cuts. It was quite surprising to see I came in quite a bit under budget while keeping social programs, mostly, and doing some thoughts for the future. Mostly it impressed me that we CAN balance it in a number of different ways and still come out ahead. That part was encouraging. The discouraging thing is that if we can do it why cant they? Or is it a case of they dont want to do it?
  11. Vort, this is something I see and worry about too. Also it is so easy to see only today. We get so caught up in questions like 'Is Mormonism Christian?" or "Do we hate Homosexuals?" or on and on with questions of the day and forget that this is all of the moment. What is the long term? Why are we focusing on things that are just bumps when we have long term goals such as bringing the message to everyone on the earth? If there are bumps can they be turned into stepping stones to our long term goals? Its the little things that people get hung up on and then fall away. I WISH homosexuals could marry if it made them happy but its pointless. Better to focus on the long term instead of getting hung up on it. I WISH people understood that we are Christian but honestly we arent the same as they are. We believe in Jesus but we dont believe in some ethereal God made up of three people. They are wrong so why do we want to be like them? And why do we focus on it? Take the opportunity to teach what we believe not in trying to convince them we are them. Why dont we wear crosses? Another forum I sometimes go to got hung up on that and frankly a lot of people seemed to be falling away because of it. We need to move past these things. Imagine losing out on eternal life over a piece of metal? Imagine losing out because we cant separate politics from religious belief to the point it BECOMES our religion. Sure our beliefs influence our politics but I see so many people get WAY more passionate about their politics than they ever do over religion. Are we being led away from God this way? Satan has so many ways of tricking us. By getting us focused on the little things and falling away over them he wins the big battle. Why arent we smarter than this? How can we let our testimony fail over such petty things? Lets not lose track of the big plan for day to day stuff.
  12. I laugh when people talk about Universes and when they started, etc. Universe means all yet we are determined to put limits to it, same as we do for how long God has existed, how long we have existed, etc. It really has no beginning and no end no matter how hard we try to put limits on it. God wasnt here before the Universe. They are both endless. Now if you mean this area of space then i can go with that.
  13. Sounds like a nice motivator. Note its sponsored by Amazon so maybe they are trying to encourage writers for their Ebooks.
  14. For those of you who want to play around with balancing the national budget give this site a visit : Budget Simulator | Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget Its kinda of fun and despite the fact that it seems to tie you down on on the first page it doesnt. Just keep hitting next
  15. I dont think anything is going to change overnight except that Christ will be here. Gradually people will start to work together to do God's work but its not going to be an immediate thing. Once people are not so much into getting rich or getting power then we might just solve problems like energy. Education, I think, will be important so there will be schools. We wont have to worry as much about health issues I suspect which will be good. Eventually we will be living the United Order so everyone will have work to do that they CAN do.
  16. We could just be under our own classification: Christ's Church. but that would make people mad so better to not do that.
  17. Do you post your writing or is it kept private?
  18. Bias. I would be more interested in a discussion that had people listening, and trying to understand anothers point of view without jumping in as fast as possible to tell us why they are wrong. It is great we live in a land that allows us to have a chance to live well and even exceed that. What I would like even more is to live in a land modeled after the United Order where everyone could use their talents and abilities to improve the lives of all. Everyone would have all they needed and, if there was enough, to have more of the bonuses of life. Why do we argue about lesser forms of government? Why arent we out there trying to make this into the government Joseph Smilth envisioned where everyone worked, to the best of their abilities, and everyone has the blessings this life could offer.
  19. I think it is a valid issue for catholic rights therefore for all of us. Satan is good at trying to get us to boot religion out of everything. Crosses and rosarys are fair game to him. We dont use them but other Christians do so he wins if he gets them to be associated with criminals. Why do we let him get away with this kind of thing? We let him have rainbows, colors, religious symbols, and on and on. When do we put our foot down? Honestly many people regard the word God or religion to be evil because satan has succeeded in blaming people who follow God or an religion for all the evil in the world. This is flat out wrong. We need to say no now.
  20. I go to all three main sources, MSNBC, CNN and FOX. I dont believe any of them but MSNBC is less likely to infuriate me than FOX and CNN is more in the middle. Lately I have noticed that we really do not get all the news so its good to also go to BBC at the very least for an outside view. Google is good for getting a bunch of sources but keep in mind that Google is not moderate so their search engines dont necessarily search in an unbiased way. What I like to do is check them all then if there is something I want to know more I search around the net. Facebook will give you some on the spot sources, amazing I know. An example is that I know people who are actually in the protests on wall street. They bring back photos and tell us what they have seen. Hardly ever matches what is said on the main news sources. Got to love the internet. If you are determined you can find out whats going on but it does require dedication and work.
  21. hmm it seems pretty odd doesnt it. At least the thread is educational to those of us that didnt know that the rosary isnt to be used as a necklace. So is it permissable to just hang it on the neck to keep it? not as an accessory just for convenience?
  22. Sometimes we read into Patriarchal Blessings things that they dont say. As time goes by we see what was really said. I just reread mine this morning. There is so much there to think about. Warnings as well as encouragements. My life has been a bit out of the mainstream yet in reading the blessing it is clear that he did know. What I had thought as a young woman were promises were more about choices that I would be faced with. The comforts come from knowing that He knows me and is aware of my trials. The blessing may not be a tea reading session but I know that man saw what my life was going to be and he gave me blessings he knew I would need. There was a time that he stopped and was quiet. He seemed to find it very hard to go on. Now I know why. For many many years it gave me comfort and hope for a particular outcome. Maybe my blessing was different but I dont know. I would take them very seriously even if you havent been always perfect. We have all fallen short. Dont you think He knew that would happen and made allowances in the blessing for it?
  23. Ok I am very confused. How can you be not married, living with him?, and wanting to work in the temple? I like you so please know I am not condemning you just very confused.
  24. I just saw a great video with William O Nelson. It was not concerning marriage in particular but if you watch till around the middle it talks about a woman who decided she wanted a divorce. It is very interesting what he discussed with them. William O. Nelson | How the Book of Mormon Invites One to Seek Christ | August 16, 1999 | BYU Broadcasting You might be interested in it.
  25. I guess I dont get it. So if a partner is incapable then you cant love them or be happy with them any more? It was always my understanding that sex is an important part of a marriage not the most important part and not an indispensable part either. If the husband gets prostate cancer just boot him to the curb and go find someone else? If the woman is raped and scared to death of sex just toss her aside? I really thought it was in sickness and in health even for temple marriages. (my husband and I were sealed and I have never gone to a marriage that is done first. odd i know) Anyway like I said. I just dont get it. Marriage is FOREVER not just for tonight.
