It's always funny to me how stuff my sibs do while deployed is common even though I'd never heard of it until they talk about it.

nice use of *, JaG lol.

This is me keeping my mouth shut, because I don't want to be responsible for closing another thread >< Carry on

Lol, sometimes people seem squeeeemish about female breasts when they are not being used in a sexually-gratifying way. This issue is about pumping milk in the workplace. The economic recovery has seen women return to work faster than men, so it's timely. On the one hand you have people eager and indeed desperate to return to work and employers who have a vast selection of potential employees, and on the other hand you have the question of what is the right thing to do. I think a lot of employers will do the right thing when it's pointed out that there is a need. But for those few who don't want to, this bill will help the lone person talking to a room full of couldn't care less HR people

But there is also the 'public good' that the gov't is responsible for as well. Companies are not their own feudal fiefdoms, to be ruled as the CEOs see fit. If that were the case then there would still be children crawling into the little spaces in coal mines and people would still be working 16 hour days for $0.50/hr. We have enviromental laws because ground water and air were getting polluted, not because some Marxist wants companies to go out of business so they can usher in a worker's utopia. There are times for Gov't intervention. The fact is capitalism works whether the employees get $1.00/hr or $15.00/hr. Employee wages have little to nothing to do with market economies, as we can see with this latest recovery. One thing is certain. When workers have high morale production goes up, and when production goes up companies have more stuff to sell.

Speaking of missing footage, the wikileaks site apparently lost a whopping 30 minutes of time. Where did it go? *faint breezy noise in the background* The 'Full Version' of The Wikileaks Video Is Missing 30 Minutes of Footage - wikileaks - Gawker

Anatess, I did the same thing when my first baby was born! I was working at a potato processing plant that had 60% female employees and in 40 years I was the first person to request pumping space. I was allowed to use the nurses office and it worked great. My current employer is also a potato processing plant (potatoes seem to increase my fertility, go figure ) and I plan on asking them if I can use the nurses office by the lunchroom. Bet me I'm gonna be the first plant, non-office employee to ask for this lol. I'm glad this legislation passed. It's all well and good to complain about mandated gov't laws, but if employers would take a look around and see that the majority of their floor employees are females of childbearing age maybe instead of telling them to lump it there wouldn't be a need for this provision. I don't like laws that micromanage. But I think employers have a responsibility to ask themselves 'How can I get my employees to give their best work for the smallest amount of money possible?' Setting aside a small room for something like pumping breast milk or prayer doesn't cost much, and just the fact that their company will do something like that for them will boost morale. And when the workers are happy, the bottom line is happy

I think most politicians in Idaho are not LDS so it's not much of an issue here

It's no secret, the Obama administration is not at all happy with Israel at the moment. I love Israel and am glad to see it all scrappy and stuff, but it seems determined to bite the US hand that feeds it. This is merely a 'you play nice or we take our ball away' approach to a delicate situation. The Iranian situation is similar but with a few differences. If some of the more educated in Iran can be 'turned' to the West then that's all to our benefit. After all, it was the college kids that tried to change the gov't last year. But I agree with the writer of the article. Use the opportunity to study here as a carrot and we might not have to use quite so big of a stick

Church Invitation to Vancouver Temple Open House
talisyn replied to rameumptom's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The Sl Trib is horrible! The only good part is Kirby. I kind've see him as a Lot, being the last good man in a terrible place lol. About the Vancouver paper, I saw 'L Ron Hubbard' on the 'Filed under' field below the headline and decided I had better things to do than read the rest of the article -
Nice, thank you. It makes sense, since we are all brothers and sisters, that there wouldn't be restrictions on the bishop or stake president on who to invite. I didn't know that about non-members though

Well gee, at least he could have posted a joke!

Admittedly, I do not attend very many stake or ward firesides. My work schedule and family obligations leave me with very little time. It is more than a few days 'til next Sunday and I want to know the answer before then lol. What are the procedures for scheduling speakers for firesides? Do they have to belong to the stake they're going to give their talk? I seem to recall Dr. Daniel Peterson (LDS scholar) speaking at firesides all over the place, from Alaska to Florida, but I might have misunderstood him. Funny how every time I think I know everything about the church organization I learn something completely new

The military better find their copy. Until they do, the validity of those who are doing the splicing/editing and that of the military is in question. 2 witnesses (or more) always makes for better evidence.

Beats me, I'm not privy to his church records. but I'm pretty sure you have to be a Senator from the state you live in IDK, where does Sen. Reid and his family live? Is Searchlight in the Tule Springs stake? Pam, this is not an endorsement or condemnation of Sen. Reid's reelection campaign (ty for closing the other thread btw, it was getting silly ). It is a question of 'can you ask someone in another stake to speak at a fireside' sort of thing
-
Because he lives there? It would make a lot more sense than if he were invited to speak at, say, a stake center in Burley, Idaho
-
Maybe if the First Presidency would put out a map of the Holy Places? Someone who knows someone who knows someone's second cousin in the church office building should make that suggestion

What bothers me is reportedly the military lost their footage of what happened. How??? I have multiple family who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I hate seeing in them what Mormon saw with his own troops- a casualness, a hardness that develops to protect the softer emotions in most people. I don't know how we'd prevent more 'mistakes' from happening. Some of our soldiers have been over there 4 out of 7 years! That's way too long. We need to get this Iraq/Afghanistan problem solved before we get more people like the helicopter pilots, and more 'lost' footage. I found this page while randomly looking around the Internet. I hope y'all find it interesting, too Joan Smith: Now we see what war does to those who wage it - Joan Smith, Commentators - The Independent

Some people are just wrinkle magnets. I'm one of them. I can iron, starch, low-heat dryering (cool, I invented a new word!), and hang on a clothesline and I still manage to get wrinkled clothes, even 100% cotton t-shirts! I would advise getting a dress made with fabric that's suppose to be crinkly and go with the flow.

I can't think of any president who was more in need of prayers than Nixon I agree with you, Goose, about the LDS church and politics. The LDS church has tried to protect it's interests using the political systems of the times, with varying degree of success. I'm thinking one of the reasons church members have traditionally been against Dems is that the Dems of the 1800s were so anti-mormon, even so far as to take away voting rights of the Saints in Idaho. By the time the Dems figured out they could get more power with Mormon votes the damage was done. That being said, I'm sure all Saints vote according to who they think will do a better job. For some, it's politicians with an enviromentalism bent. For others it's those politicians who are nicer to businesses. Both sides have merit. It's up to us to keep such matters out of the church buildings and temples and restrict it to forums such as this, where we can state our views amongst friends and not be condemned. Heaven knows I don't always agree with, say, Bytor, about all things political. But I would never dream of judging him as less a Saint than me. For all I know, given my flaws, he is probably a much better one
