  1. You're a good aunt. Be their rock, and hopefully the dad will get his act together before they lose all respect for him. Children oddly enough like rules, so I recommend sitting down with the little ones and make a list of house rules for them and you, with appropriate rewards and punishments. Hopefully when the adults see the kids behaving it will make them want to participate. My daughter benefits from 5 aunts and I love the relationships they share.
  2. If I absolutely must know what the plot of a rated R movie is I go to themoviespoiler.com. It tells everything about the movie without all the nasty imagery and language. My curiosity is satisfied and I go back to watching Spongebob
  3. Happy birthday!
  4. I picked my daughter's name based on how easy it would be for a 4th grader to mess it up and tease her. I thought I did a good job until one of my nephews called her 'Genie Coconut'. You can do your best with the first name but you just can't do anything with a surname
  5. So the fact that these gas pedals were really sticking, and enough of them were sticking to be worrisome, means the gov't should look the other way? Kudos to Toyota for jumping on the problem so fast. My theory is that someone tried to use cheaper parts to bring the cost of the vehicles down and it bit them in the butt.
  6. Social Security got its start when women did not often work outside the home, and widows getting their deceased spouse's SS benefits was a pretty radical idea. I think the system needs to be updated to reflect the new reality of both parties working. Bytor, I'm sorry your mom is going through such a rough time, but I'm glad this safety net is in place. After all, without SS she'd be getting a big fat nothing. For most people the amount they get in benefits is much greater than the amount they paid into it during their working life.
  7. I assumed the people who got slaughtered were 'fundamentalists'. Kind've like those people in Texas
  8. I had a similar idea, but it was along the lines of telling them that they said they needed the dogs put into protection so that the KGB couldn't put little recording devices on them and thus bring down the presidency
  9. I've obviously been dating the wrong guys...
  10. I play green Spot on Myspace occasionally. It's a lot of fun. My mom plays Farmville but she's getting disenchanted because she's sending about 25 people a day stuff but she gets maybe 1 or 2 back.
  11. She has a very tough challenge! The natural man (or woman) is one of the hardest things we are called upon to fight in this mortal realm, but it is also incredibly important. When she wins this battle (and she will!) she will be able to look back and see how much stronger she is and how much Heavenly Father loves her. I can't tell you anything other than what the prophets have said, just help her grow closer to God, rely on Christ, and always follow the Spirit, especially when it's hard.
  12. Lostsheep, the one week was awesome! Hold on to that as a good thing, not a cudgel to beat yourself over the head with. Keep it as a shining moment. But for now, go back to being 1 minute free. Then 10 minutes. Then 1 hour. Every minute you are not participating in that behavior is a victory. Set a stopwatch if you have too, and give yourself a cookie every time you make it You remind me of my baby brother. He just made it 60 days alcohol free, but is aware of the struggle almost every moment. I have faith in both of you.
  13. *sigh* I was a security guard working 11pm-7am with a 2 year old child and a husband who told me multiple times I should be able to work full time, take care of child, keep house spotless, and make a good dinner any time I asked him to do anything around the house. Because that's what his mom did. Edit: forgot to add that my ex was unemployed for the duration of our marriage
  14. The Barry who dresses up in repairman clothes and asks to see telephones? What the Obamas do in the privacy of their own bedroom is really none of our business
  15. because you can't just go up to the office and ask why they won't answer the phones, you have to dress up as a telephone repair man. I stand by my first statement, he's an arrogant boy. ACORN foe: Phone plot to embarrass senator - Politics- msnbc.com
  16. Ohhh I totally didn't know that! Off to the Google!
  17. I kind've understood that any children the mom had, after the husband she was sealed to died, would belong to the sealed husband....like, raising up seed for him or something like that.
  18. My sky had little patches of blue with a whole lot of gray. Wanna trade?
  19. Daughter_of_Helaman2709 (love your name, btw), I thought I was ready for motherhood. Oldest of 8 kids, read up an everything I could find, etc. But nothing prepared me for the moment I held my very tiny daughter in my arms and knew that I was totally responsible for her. It was humbling. Whether you think you're prepared or unprepared know that as co-creators with God Himself you will receive the blessings needed when the time comes. And there is no one on this planet that will ever love you as much as your beautiful children (even when they're teens ). Birth control or no birth control is a choice for only you and your husband. I haven't heard any condemnation of any means except abortion. It's a matter of can you handle the hormone flux of pills, can you make condom use a habit, stuff like that. Good luck!
  20. Hypocrites, seriously. I thought the whole idea of 'pro-choice' is that there is a choice?
  21. I've been reading the comments on the article cited, and you can really tell who the former members are. What a bunch of bitter fruits.
  22. The church is not asking for any special consideration with the redo, so the critics should be silent...assuming they follow logic. The steeple should get an added 10 feet to it, because the height of church steeples cannot be restricted, but that would be petty
  23. But, Bluedreams, just once wouldn't it be nice to shut the world out and say 'you deal with it'? We'd take a nice vacation, maybe throw a few parades and bbqs, and come back to the world refreshed and ready to go for a few more centuries
  24. Seriously, he thought he could just break into a senator's office and wiretap her phones? How special does he think he is?
  25. Wow! I'm amazed at how strong they are, and so cute!
