Ah yes, Columbine. You'd think after that there would have been a lot less bullying.

Redistribution: key goal of health care bill
talisyn replied to rameumptom's topic in General Discussion
How sad. You do know, of course, that if people had decent wages they would be able to pay for their own health care. That small fact seems to be getting lost in all 'The Marxists are Coming(!!!!!)' rhetoric. BTW, and it seems it cannot be stated enough, those rights that are held so dear from the US Constitution were not in the original Constitution, they are amendments to the original document. The original, unchanging, holy document -
I went to 13 schools before the 7th grade, and lived in a converted school bus with my parents and 7 brothers and sisters from 7th grade to 12th grade graduation, so yeah I was bullied a lot. I'd try to ignore it and read my books, and by the 6th grade achieved an almost Zen-like state of tranquility (not going to school for most of the 6th grade helped a lot ). When we moved to a little piece of hell called Slab City, Ca it all got so much worse. I tried to fit in with the kids around me, much to the despair of my parents, but after a few months they knew I wasn't one of the pot heads, and the town kids would have nothing to do with a dirty slabber. Then I got jumped a few times at school by a fellow slabber, much to the delight of the town kids, and decided it was all stupid and refused to 'play'. No one talked to me in during my 8th grade year. I had maybe 5 talks with teachers, but it was clear they didn't care. After taking a bunch of standardized tests during the 8th grade I ended up with a bunch of academic awards, including the 'Presidential Academic Achievement Award', one of the very few people to ever win it from that place, and adults started to treat me a little better. High school was combined with another town and I actually had people talk to me! It was amazing. By that time I was driven to get good grades and escape to college so having friends didn't make me much different than if I didn't, but life was a lot nicer So, people can be nice, people can be mean. I was lucky in my testimony of the Gospel and the BoM, without that I could have walked some very very dark paths. Sidenote: after my 'stunning' achievement in the 8th grade, that teacher invited my 1 year younger sister to sit out the rounds of testing so there wasn't an upset of the town kids. What a jerk.

I hate when I get on facebook, find family members like cousins or aunts and they don't accept the friend request. I guess I know where I rate

You've been listening to Coast to Coast with George Noory, haven't you? That stuff will rot not only your brain, but the brains of the aliens listening in on the receiver in your shoulder.

Ohh my sister just graduated from BYU-Idaho, degree in accounting. Maybe she can get a better job now, and stop selling beer and lottery tickets at a gas station

That's very good news, Pale. I'm glad you're getting that instead of the chicken farms this area is actively recruiting ><

Congrats Congrats Congrats! Home teaching is a great opportunity. You'll be fine, just don't stress and make sure you read the monthly lesson and understand it

My local D.I. doesn't have books like that, all I've found are old family home evening manuals. Ohh and a lot of college textbooks on chemistry and anatomy, good stuff. You've inspire me to keep looking

Wow, talk about a blanket statement (first paragraph). So you're basically taking the position of Job's friends, that this is God's challenge and if you interfere you're blocking God's work? BTW thank you for your work as a RS president, I'm sorry you got burned out.

You didn't finish the quote.

Ummm it's kind've...what's the word I'm looking for...not disingenuous...not cynical..well whatever, it's {insert word I'm trying to think of here} to compare the US economy to that of the fallen nation of N. Korea. There is so much messed up about that place, it's almost like a world in a different galaxy. We are nowhere near that level of economic and political woe, and the only way we'd ever even get close to that is if the entire midwest decided to become a cult of cannibalistic poodlebug worshipers. Not saying N. Koreans are cannibals, but if I were living there I'd be mentally dividing up my neighbors into meals of the day.

Oops: Health-Care Bill Does Not Cover Kids' Pre-Existing Conditions
talisyn replied to bytor2112's topic in Current Events
Reps are doing the will of the people. Sure, the country leans conservative but not all conservatives are in a big enough block to be the voice of the people, and let's say a 54% conservative lean still makes for a sizable 46% liberal block. Here in Idaho Walt Minnick voted against the bill despite being a dem not because he didn't like health insurance reform but because it was the will of his constituents. I think this bill is flawed, I wish that the 'public option' had been stuck in there somehow. But it's a start. -
You have a very technical friend lol. Go forth and have as many kids as you want/can afford at the time. There is no right or wrong in family size.

Oops: Health-Care Bill Does Not Cover Kids' Pre-Existing Conditions
talisyn replied to bytor2112's topic in Current Events
Gap in health care law's protection for children - Yahoo! News here's another article, without the witty commentary According to this article, Pres. Obama thinks the bill passed doesn't allow insurance companies to deny children. The insurance industry might not agree. -
I've been away from Cherry Coke and Dr. Pepper since Jan. 1, 2010. And I miss it soooooooo much Let see, what else can't Mormons do....(some) Mormons can't quote from their fav movies (like Zombieland) because they have to be a good example to the non-Mormons and don't want to explain to the Mormons where it came from.
-
Bytor, it's a start. That's all it is. It's up to us to determine what it's a start of. This would not have passed, this wouldn't even have been thought of, if there were not serious problems with US health care as it is right now, and how it has been for generations. The stories about how hard it is to afford health insurance are real. So, if this measure is not part of the answer then what is?

Acorn disbands and yet we can't seem to vote out congressional officeholders who are seen on camera taking bribes and promising actions in exchange for 'gifts'. I hate to say it but it seems a lot easier to punish people who help the poor than people who help the rich.

Mormons can't really enjoy an ice-cold Pepsi or Coke product without feeling slightly rebellious.

16 ways military spending takes away your freedom.

Funky, the difference is in the military you get guns and in health care you just get seen by a doctor. Obviously, guns are more popular. -
Teacher suspended for writing "loser" on girl's paper
talisyn replied to pam's topic in Current Events
In my workplace if a supervisor called one of the worker bees a 'loser' he'd be immediately scolded and probably given more training in how to manage effectively (real classes, I've seen the computer programs lol). Why would we expect those who teach small children to behave in a less professional manner? One thing people are forgetting is this is a 6th grader, not a high school or college student. Life may be rough sometimes and yeah our kids are gonna meet rude/mean/not nice people. They should not have to take that behavior from those who are getting paid to teach elementary school. -
It has been a wonder to me how absolutely nothing gets people as riled up as the idea that other people who are just like them are getting something for free. No, strike that, it's the undeserving people who are worse than them are getting something for free. Obviously if they were good people God would bless the uninsured and poor with wealth enough to not be a burden upon society and would not curse them with long-term health problems that bankrupt their families and ruin their future. If these people were real Americans who loved their country they would rather jump off a cliff than ask the gov't for anything.
-
I totally agree. But I have a feeling we're not agreeing on who this statement applies to

Teachers are expected to have certain professional standards of behavior. -
Most wouldn't have known it by the amount of dollars they were funneling into ads and congressmen against this bill
