I didn't know American Idol had a 28 year old age limit, in my opinion this guy could have gone all the way!

Wouldn't it be called Romneycare? He did it first so he should get the credit

Bleh. No more talking to the dad on facebook I hope!

Shouldn't this be in Current events? That seems to be our de facto political section I'm not surprised. The Dem candidate didn't run a very good campaign. I think making a campaign speech at a MLK jr day event was the nail in the coffin.

well, you learn something new every day! I've never heard of crate training until now. It seems to be something beneficial to city dwellers with small to medium dogs. I've had big dogs out in the country who roamed outside so I can't help with that, although they did like their doghouse But about the housebreaking the only thing that will work is sheer persistence. Never let an accident go by unnoticed and uncorrected (gently of course lol). They are smart enough to be trained, and obedient enough to want to please their master. Good Luck! I'm remembering all the reasons I have cats now

I never said I'd take any year Chevy over a Ford, FWIW. My point is that older vehicles can be fixed by the driver, all you need is a Chilton's manual and proper tools. Newer vehicles require the trained mechanic to hook it up to a diagnostic computer and then he/she has to decipher the code the poor vehicle is sending out. Then they can get to work. Most random people can't do that with the newer cars.

I didn't remember this, thanks for pointing it out. The academic world is sometimes as bad as the US Senate

I totally agree. I will take a 1975 Ford pickup over a 2009 Ford pickup any day, because I can fix almost any problem that might come up. I received a hard lesson when I sold my 1974 VW Beetle and bought a 1988 Mazda. Sure the Mazda was cute and spiffy but that meant nothing when I had to take it to a shop to fix things that would take a few hours on the Beetle. I hope one of the after-effects of this recession is tossing out the 'disposable society' in favor of the 'make things last society'. Bytor, probably no surprise but I like that idea. We will see a jump in the economy the next 3 months due to people getting back tax refunds. Working at Wal-Mart I saw that the store plans on people spending their tax money there, and make special efforts to get especially those who get EIC to buy higher priced 'fancier' items they cannot afford the rest of the year. It improves Wal-Mart's bottom line before the tax year ends in Feb., which helps those who own stock in Wal-Mart. Trickle-up economics hasn't been disproven as effective

Thank you for serving, and your 3rd deployment? Wow! My youngest brother was deployed for about 1 year and wasn't able to attend services that entire time. He figured the 40 mile trip was too risky and there weren't any other LDS guys where he was (at least any who would admit it lol). There are pocket sized Bibles and Book of Mormons available, and even pocket sized hymn books, easy to fit in your jacket. I'm glad you're trying to be more active in the church. Heavenly Father is aware of you and your needs. This is a good opportunity to get closer to Him, especially through prayer. Be safe!

I understand what you're saying Pam, and I agree. What I was trying to get across is that when kids show they are capable of greater responsibility they tend to get greater rewards. I reward my pre-teen daughter when she has shown she'll do her chores for a sustained amount of time. I figure yes, she needs to do these things for the benefit of the family, and yes, these will build character and give her a good foundation for when she goes out on her own. But like my job where I get a base wage I also get bonuses for consistent quality and safety, things I do anyways but over a long stretch of time (quarterly in my case). I also wouldn't want my daughter to tell me to raise her allowance because a bunch of people here told her to, but if she approached me in a respectful manner and listed her actions of the past year with a request (be it higher allowance, different curfew, etc.) I would be more inclined to listen.

Welcome, Polly. Do you have a Book of Mormon?

Wifi is found in most truck stops and hotels (I'm assuming your husband's a truck driver). The laptop idea is a great one. My fiance and I managed to grow closer via internet while he was going to school. Kids love seeing themselves and others (esp dads!) on computers. You could even have 'date nights' where it's just the 2 of you when the kids are in bed

Indeed. Line upon line, precept on precept. Brother Bear, maybe your friend isn't ready for the entire restoration. Maybe there's too many responsibilities for him at this moment. There are people who just quietly stop attending services and find something different (like my ex). One thing to warn him of though is that when people leave the church they tend to get a very negative attitude about almost everything concerning LDS. Are you prepared to tell him to leave your church alone if that happens?
-
Kudos, lizzy12, for buying a laptop with your own money. That shows good judgement. Too bad that judgement didn't carry over into chores You and your mom need to sit down and write out what you do per week/per day. This includes all homework, after school activities, and yes chores. If you don't have regular chores (like dishes every Tues and Thurs) ask your mom if you can have regular chores. Doesn't sound pleasant, but wait! If you have a set list of chores to do each week you can plan your time accordingly. You can also use this to negotiate a higher allowance! Accomplishing set tasks will show you to be mature and capable of responsibility. This is basically how the real (adult) world of jobs work. Respectful communication is key when talking to parents, especially at your age. Your mom was young once (really) and she knows what it's like to have a lot of stuff to do. Good Luck!

It's horrible!!!! I can't remember anything worse

The socks are cute. My daughter wears patterned high socks with leggings and her shiny black boots and looks like what Selena Gomez wants to be The boyfriend blazer is also cute, but do blazers ever go out of style?

One thing about hanging it on the wall, it's a great opportunity for people to see why the LDS Church came out in favor of Prop. 8. It could spark dialog. You could even have scripture chases lol. What I find really odd though is your straight and narrow wife is the one who doesn't want the proclamation hanging up. That would be a shiny red flag for me.

The garments are not the sexiest things in the world, I totally agree. But before you decide your lovely wife is about to become a nun please remember that LDS families tend to be very large. See what I'm trying to get at?

Are you worthy? A Campaign against LDS Women

I agree, Justice. I think if a church doesn't want you to be your best then why bother? WmLee, I heard the saying as 'Don't wrestle with pigs. You'll just get dirty and the pigs like it' -
Is it tacky to bring your own snacks to the movie theater?
talisyn replied to RainofGold's topic in General Discussion
I'm so sorry. Twin Falls (short drive away, rural short drive I should say) has 2. I'd send one to you but then I wouldn't get to see all those movies! -
You should call the local newspaper and see if they want to make a story out of your plight, especially with tax season swiftly approaching. Maybe a little light shined on the IRS will help things out. GL!

Wow. I watched that movie and loved it. The idea that people would know each other after death and in fact try to save each other lines up great with the Restored church.
