  1. President Obama is not evil. I can't believe I even have to say that lol.
  2. Poor LostSheep, I feel for you, really. Addictions are hard to break. The chemicals released in your brain when participating in the addictive behavior don't help, it's like your own body is fighting you fighting. But every hour..every minute (!) you are not engaged in the harmful behavior is a victory. There was a time when my baby brother would consider 24 hours without alcohol a huge victory. It's all a matter of perspective. You have said you want to want to stop. Sometimes the hardest part of the Atonement is giving your woes to Christ instead of holding on to them like a miser. You know they aren't precious, yet you can't quite give them away. So you huddle over them despite the pain they inflict. IDK why, maybe because they are yours and you feel a sense of ownership. I challenge you this week to visualize literally putting your hand in Christ's. That's all. Just that. It may not sound like a lot, but I think you'd be surprised at what happens
  3. It is -10'F (-23'C for you metric people) outside my door right now. I am not pleased.
  4. ok...that was possibly the oddest thing I have ever watched....got anything else?
  5. MM has a very good point. If the rules allow for 4 people in the apartment make sure the couple is aware that you are a believing member of the church. If they move in and find something out later like you donated to 'Yes on 8' there could be frostiness. IDK how you would work that into a conversation, but uncertainty in life makes things exciting
  6. I thought it was a pretty funny article. You can have a whole lot of fun with people, I just wish I didn't have such a fear of lightning strikes I was telling my daughter about a few antimormon beliefs. Her eyes got really big when I told her about filing down the horns, then I caught her a few hours later feeling her head for bumps. She's a baby Goth right now and I think she was disappointed.
  7. How old is the committee chairperson? I ask because it takes a while for high school to go away for some people It may be that you were called to be on the committee to be an example of mature behavior.
  8. You've watched them eat all of that? All of it in one day? Like, you made a list of all the stuff these people ate in one day? Because I would hate to think you were just idly speculating cause you got your feelings hurt by a bunch of fat people
  9. In all seriousness, I fear for my daughter and your sons. The rising generation and the one after have a very hard road ahead of them, morality-wise. However, in defense of feminism... The time before wasn't that great either. There may have been less rampant sex but, and this is important, women were called upon to do most of the same stuff they do now (home and earn money) but with less pay and less legal protections in the workplace. At least now there is some expectation the head male in the house will wash dishes and a woman won't get fired for getting pregnant
  10. Sometimes, people agree with popular media. Even without the help of sugary liquid goodness. Just saying....
  11. Changed, the kids and tree are adorable. I want a real tree this year soooo bad, but we already have a fake from last year, I think I'm gonna get outvoted On the plus side it is a nice fake tree. Have you seen the purple ones at Walmart?
  12. Does it matter what color/flavor? Jenamarie, ty for bringing this subject up. I was getting tired of defending my favorite green kool aid flavor
  13. I went to that site, wasn't tooooo impressed....and then I got about 1/2 through the recorded discussion and realized it sounded a lot like stuff my ex would say to me which just about always brought me to tears about 30 minutes later. It's a really good site, ty. I'm going to send the link to a few sisters I know
  14. What are they? My google button broke...
  15. Who is Trixie?
  16. It's from CNN, so I think it's safe :)
  17. I have nothing new to add to this discussion, but I want to appear helpful. *gets a glass of milk and piece of pumpkin pie instead of cherry coke and pie* Balance your sugars and you should be good
  18. I respect reporters. They have a tough job, especially in this time of economic turmoil. I do wish the news organizations would keep a few more copy editors on staff though. Case in point CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Pres. Obama cheers on brother-in-law at basketball game « - Blogs from CNN.com Apparently President Obama was hungry. Very very hungry. Know of any other cases where the English language was tormented beyond all reason?
  19. I can quit FFXI anytime...after I get everything I want
  20. Oddly enough, I have no problem calling myself 'Mormon'. It's others who do not share my faith who call me 'Mormon' that bugs me
  21. TK, a much easier way to find what you're looking for is to just read it
  22. Taxing the poor actually would work, using the Wal-Mart Plan to Take Over the World. What the Evil Empire does is buy a whole bunch of stuff for low wholesale prices, and marks them up for resale about..umm..let's say 3% for a jug of Tide. That make it about $0.22 profit per container. But, and this is where they kill, they sell thousands of the suckers every week. They do this with almost everything. When I worked there I hardly ever saw an over 10% markup over cost, keeping everything low priced so that even their workers could afford Tide Take this into the real world. I'm using a simplistic population of 2/3 poorer (under $100,000/year income) to 1/3 wealthier (+$100,000/year income). You have a universal 'flat tax' of 15% on goods and services. You have millions of poor people paying say an extra $1,500 in taxes per year. Multiply $1,500 by a few million, versus an extra $2,500 the wealthier taxpayers would pay (make that an extra million people) with the understanding that people at lower income levels spend more of their take home income on groceries/gas/etc and people at higher income levels put more money into IRAs, savings, 401k programs, etc that would not be taxable under this program. That comes out to $3,000,000,000 in taxes from lower income people vs. $2,500,000,000. Taxing less wealthy people would generate $500,000,000 more income than taxing the wealthy. Is it ethical to tax in this manner? That is open to great rousing debate. But I will go on record as saying i would have no problem personally as long as I get good health care and better after-school programs in the bargain.
  23. I guess what I was getting at is our national debt is already out of control with what is being spent even before the 2 stimulus bills. I fail to see how creating a universal health care plan using funds already in place (medicare and medicaid) plus new tax revenue from those who choose to opt into the coverage will increase it more than it already is.
  24. In this area we have so many dairies and feedlots (huge, over 500 units, most over 1,000) that 3 counties have placed moratoriums on new projects. Apparently a lot of people drink a lot of milk and eat steaks lol. We also have a lot of ranches in the hills. Churchmouse is right, if the owners do not treat the animals right the yield will not be worth the expenditure. Hey are these the same people who secretly filmed the male baby chicks getting..umm..augered? Cause that practice was just soooooo wrong.
  25. How to pay for universal health care? That's easy, taxes lol. Yes I said it, there would be taxes like what Canada has already. I like the idea of eliminating Medicare (and caid for that matter), you would simply make those funds part of the program. The gov't has shown it can create a great health care system with the military, and yes our military people totally deserve that. But why can't they use the same program for others as well? Applepansy, I bet you remember the 'locked box' mantra of a few elections ago too Sorry Maxel, I'm not seeing the clear connection between the national debt and health care. You could also ask how we can fund the national parks program and pay off the debt. Or how we can fund the highway system and the debt. Or better yet, how we can pay for congresspeoples health insurance and pensions and the national debt. BTW, I like this discussion
