  1. Why can't we know the full truth from the start? What truth are we talking about? If it's Gospel truths I'd have to go with the math analogy. You teach addition and subtraction before you teach calculus. If it's Church history I'd go with a more organic approach. As you learn more you get curious about events, do your own research, and learn about polygamy and Porter Rockwell and stuff like that. Line upon line, precept on precept, is a learning system used for many subjects. It seems to be considered flawed only in reference to the 'oh nuuoooo why didn't they tell me about that why all the secrecy' religious subjects
  2. Darwin wins again
  3. Is this what my younger sisters have to deal with in the singles wards?
  4. Dean Jackson and his family and congregation humble me. What a great bunch of people
  5. I was going to say my tongue was firmly in cheek when I posted that last one (and it was) but then I thought that if I give an inch I'd lose face (which in all honesty I don't care about except here lol). Then I was reminded of a link I found an a different site The Problem With The Linux Community - O'Reilly Broadcast I guess that's that for me. I'm obviously not changing minds or attitudes, and all my attitude is doing is getting stubborn. So for the sake of my mellowiness (byproduct of my liberal leanings ) I'm getting more ice-cold green koolade, a piece of pumpkin pie, and going back to my real job, teaching my daughter that she can leave this world a better place than she found it.
  6. Well if we are thinking logically we must conclude that the Republican plan will kill people. So we are either bankrupt or killers
  7. Happy B-Day Wingnut
  8. Trial balloons like universal health care? Expanding Job Corp? Merely restricting welfare and Medicade and getting rid of capital gains taxes is not a whole plan to fight poverty. As for by who...I am reminded of a poll that said about 75% of Utahns disliked the health care bill, yet when Pres. Obama's name was taken off about 54% said something needed to be done about affordable health care. Give me a bit to find the link. Dems do not control everything, bitterness of the loyal opposition aside. If they did then passage of the health care bill would be certain
  9. How about ending poverty? Seems like the Liberals are the only ones sending up the trial balloons that keep getting shot down.
  10. My fault, I assumed the link in the OP was in the same humor category as Mr. Swift's essay
  11. ending poverty, the conservative way Swift: A Modest Proposal
  12. If I'm not one of those 3 then you know 4
  13. Because he's a really cool guy? My sister went to London last year and took a picture of the queen. She's that very very very tiny blue dot off in the distance, surrounded by all those people. I imagine the view from your window would be about the same. But maybe a bigger dot, surrounded by all those people
  14. Lol I'm not saying dr.s are money-hungry sharks. I'm saying a lot of dr.s are contracted with various insurance companies and have to follow the guidelines set for in the contract. I think anyone who spends decades in school with the desire to help their fellow beings are well deserving of respect. But in order to pay for basic necessities and insurance it's beneficial to enter these contacts, to become a 'preferred provider' as my insurance calls them. I'm not even saying insurance companies are evil, either. They simply are as they were made. They have rules and guidelines based on statistical evidence that will create more profit than loss, like any business. But they are a business.
  15. Nuts! You caught me before I could change my post I looked back at it and realized I could have put it much much better, sorry! Oh, and will too!
  16. I don't know of a doctor that will tell you no as long as you have the means of paying for the test. Especially when it comes to cancer. But then that depends on what insurance coverage you have. Will your HMO take this story and run with it? JAG, I understand your point. But I fail to see how universal health care can possibly be worse than what health care insurance providers are legally allowed to do now.
  17. I come not to defend the news but to bury it What we see is a bunch of news shows desperate to be The One, and will interview/project/conjecture their way to that top spot. They feel they cannot wait to find out facts and so must fill in the spaces with 'experts' who blather away with the blessings of the producers. You can see it with every story, on every station (even the most high Fox News). To be honest, I don't trust anything anyone on the news says the first few weeks of a story, especially police and prosecutors. If they are accurate, they will still be right when all the evidence/information is in. If they are not, I would hope but not counting on them having the guts to admit it. And that's this liberal's take on the news today
  18. Attorney General Holder isn't who declares war...
  19. I don't remember an outcry when it was recommended women under 40 get a pap smear every 5 years instead of every year. Of course that could be due to relief, while a mammogram isn't nearly so personal But to be absolutely completely controversial do the number of women found with breast cancer even come close to equaling the number of women who get mammograms? Since when was consumers saving money 'rationing health care'?
  20.  I love that the incomplete sentences are ok.
  21. I agree with that, Hemi. People need to say no to the thugs and take back their country. But in their defense it's really really hard to do when the bad guys have guns and 'the people' don't. We can't even do that in the USA (just look at how many streets you can't walk safely down at night ).
  22. Who has an approval rating of -12?
  23. Do you really want to open up the should we/shouldn't we argument about Iraq and Afghanistan again?
  24. Threats to kill a sitting president, any president, should be taken very seriously. I don't care if you don't like someone, we are a nation of laws and those laws should be followed.
