We called it "Escalation of force". You do all you can to diffuse a situation but there comes a time, especially when alone versus multiple subjects., that an officer must raise the force level to respond to the perceived threat. I have been there when a battered woman, who called us to be there, turned on us and fought the officers for taking "Her man" way in handcuffs. She had a black eye, cut lip and bruises all over. Most officer injuries are caused by this type of a call. Not fighting the suspect but others. No offense taken Dr. T. :) Ben Raines

I have an idea. Since it appears that many believe that police officers are overbearing, badge heavy tyrants, next time you need one don't call them. Deal with it yourself. Same can be said for soldiers. If you don't like the way they have to fight to defend themselves then each of you either take up arms to defend yourself or let those who would take what is yours have what they want. Ben Raines

I have friends in Las Vegas area still. It is my understand that car was overloaded and not enough seatbelts to go around but that is only rumor. Most times these things can be avoided. Ben Raines

Until you put on a uniform of a police officer and know the danger you face from every person you encounter I think it is hard to judge. Someone tell me how a police officer is to know that those in an ambulance, running without lights and failing to yield will know for sure that the people in the ambulance are who they say they are. When, as an officer, you have someone approach you and fail to do as you ask "Stay in the car, get back in the car" then you have to take action for your own personal protection. When you have walked a mile or two in an officers shoes then you can make a judgment based on some phone video. I stand with the officer. Ben Raines

Exactly JD and Moshka. I also recall a talk given where it said that some times bad things happen to good people so that bad people can be held in judgement. I think of Alma and Amulek watching people being cast in to the fire that would not deny the faith. Amulek asks Alma to stop it. Alma says that they are saved due to their faith. I would agree Pam. Basic necessities are what should be purchased. RS President or her representative should assist in making these purchases. Not give them a check and let them go to the grocery store for whatever they want. Ben Raines

Where is it that you get food vouchers from church to go to a regular store? I have always seen the Bishop's Storehouse list and don't recall any soda or chips on the list. All are food stuff and staples that a family would need not necessarily want. California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah all have Bishop's Storehouse. I am sure that there are areas of the country where funds are given to buy these groceries but in the West that is very seldom. In other parts of the world it is even less. Ben Raines

I think somewhere in the preface of the book it says it is an abridgment of the records that were kept by the Nephites. I don't know the source so it is rumored, until someone brings the quote, that the records kept by the Nephites would fill a large room and from that the records were abridged. Ben Raines

aj4u, I just read Travelers post two up. I did not see him saying that LDS were the only ones doing for Christ. As I recall it was " I know of no other religion that assist all it members in keeping the commandments of Christ more consistently world wide than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". I have read the scriptures a few times, Holy Bible, both New and Old Testaments, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and no where in there do I find that it says Joseph Smith will be the one who determines where I go after this life. Someone may have said it but unless in scriptures it does not make it doctrine. Ben Raines

That is his decision unless the court orders otherwise, which I doubt they will. How old are the kids? Will they even understand? You have little control of what he says and perhaps a little on who he brings for visits unless social services says otherwise. Just because a man is a donor does not make him a father. Ben Raines
